Hello everyone! So recently my power supply blew out without any visual damage to any other components of mine, so I went to get a replacement. I don't know if my power supply failing damaged any other parts. Is there a way I can test my other components to see if they still work?

So I'm building a gaming PC and after doing my research i've decided that i'm going to get the Intel i5 4690k for the CPU and a sapphire r9 280x toxic tri-x for the GPU. my questions are: 1. what case should I get? I only ask about the case because the r9 280x toxic tri-x is pretty big. 2.What motherboard should i get? I dont think i'm going to be using more than 1 GPU for the immediate future but i think i'll only ever go as high as 2. RAM wise i'd probably edge towards 16 gig 3. are the 2 components that i've chosen already good - i'm probably not going to be overclocking either. Any response would be super helpful as i only have a basic understanding of all of this Thanks, louie

Finally placing my order, one last critique?
ArcticArtemis posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hello dwellers of linus, after weeks and weeks of research, reading, asking questions, decision making and then changing my mind. I've finally come up with a build that I'm happy with and I think is going to look bad ass. I would just like to get a bit of feedback from you guys to make sure everything is in check before I actually place the order (in case I've made a mistake somewhere). So without further ado, here's my build: cpu: Intel Core i7 5930k cpu cooler: x61 kraken 280mm modo: x99 deluxe/u3.1 memory: Corsair dominator platinum 32gb 2800mhz (8x4) gpu: Gigabyte geforce gtx 980 ti sli (dual) psu: Evga supernova p2 platinum 1200w os: Windows 10 (home) case: Nzxt H440 White/Black fans: 3x Corsair air series sp140 high static pressure (white led) I'd like to know what you guys think and if there's any changes you think I should consider. Thanks!- 20 replies

I'm currently in the process of deciding upon which components to add to my system. I want to keep the price of these upgrades overall under $1,000. The build is going to be centered around the Define r5 (which brings us to about $120 already), and will be a white and black color scheme. The list of components that I need replaced: Motherboard (white) CPU Case (Define r5) Which components (within the color scheme) would you recommend? Here's the components for the PC I'm currently using (I know I could have made better choices. I basically went into Fry's as a completely new PC builder and said, "Hey... I have a lot of money and want to feel cool for like three months"): PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($419.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($169.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($129.98 @ OutletPC) Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($70.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX Titan 6GB Video Card Case: Inwin GRone White (White) ATX Full Tower Case ($125.98 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Corsair Professional Gold 1200W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Optical Drive: LG WH14NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer ($49.89 @ OutletPC) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 OEM (64-bit) Other: Asus Xonar STX Total: $966.82 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-08-05 03:35 EDT-0400 I'm going to end up scraping the Geforce GTX green paint off of the LED and painting the cooler white on my GPU.

Hi guys, it's my first time posting something but i need an advice. By watching all linus videos and other videos on the internet i started liking building, changing components and doing creative things on the pc. Right now my setup is this : CPU : I5-3450 3,1Ghz ( stock CPU Cooler) GPU : Asus AMD Radeon r9 290 OC DirectCU 2 MOBO : MSI Z77a G43 Socket 1155 RAM : 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws-X 1600Mhz Power Supply : XFX ProSeries 550W Case : Corsair Carbide 300r Since, except the GPU, the pc it's like 3 years old, built it when i knew nothing about pc, i wanted to change things and go with an i5-4690k a CPU liquid cooler and go overlocking. I know that since my current CPU is a 1155 socket and the one i want buy is a 1150 I need to buy a new mobo. And probably I should change the power supply too. My question is, is it convinient to change my current CPU, mobo and power supply just to buy a new generation CPU and go overclocking? will there be enough benefits to justify the money spent? Or should i just buy an old, maybe new if I find one, i5-3570k instead? Thanks and sorry fot the long post ( I don't have a potato ).

Hello, my brother and I were looking to build a PC and were wondering if the components were enough for what we would like to use it for. We would eventually like to have 3 monitors and the programs we would be using are photoshop, autodesk maya/mudbox/3ds max for game design. We'd like to be able to run at least 2 of those programs at the same time, they require a lot of rendering so what cpu/motherboard/gpu would be appropriate for that? Also, basic computer gaming/use and streaming on Twitch through Xbox 1/ps4 etc. A link to the components is below and I will also list the components out as well. Ideally we would like to stay around $1000-$1100ish price range, so if any components can be swapped out let us know. Currently the pc part picker price is estimated at $1226 which isn't bad. Thank you for the help! PC part picker list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/bvassar/saved/QJCPxr CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK 68.5 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-GAMING 7 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive & Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 280 3GB Double Dissipation Video Card Case: NZXT Source 530 ATX Full Tower Case PSU: Corsair RM 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Optical drive: LG UH12NS30 Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 OEM (64-bit) Wireless Networking: Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I 802.11a/b/g/n/ac PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

So I just built a new PC. I switched from an Nvidia GPU (the GTX 750) to a AMD GPU (XFX Black Edition Double Dissipation Radeon R9 290X) because I wanted better performance in all the games I like to play being Arma 3, CSGO, and War Thunder to name a few. Before I go forward my current specs are: OS: Windows 8.1 64 bit CPU: i7 4790S GPU: XFX Black Edition Double Dissipation Radeon R9 290X RAM: 16gbs of PNY DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth Z87 Power Supply: EVGA Supernova 850 G2 (850 watts) What I am having issues with is what I think is micro stuttering and screen tearing. I know for sure I am having screen tearing issues but with the micro stuttering thing I am kind of iffy about. I honestly dont know what exactly micro stuttering is. What I got from reading online its something like your computer... or gpu... reads a frame too long and skips a few and then reads one... or something? But to dumb it down... what I am seeing when I am playing games like CSGO is that it almost looks like everyone is teleporting around me. For an explanation/scenario, I shoot at an enemy for a second when hes on top of some stairs and then the game like almost freezes for a short split second and the enemy is then down the stairs and im caught shooting at his last location from what I see and then I end up dying looking like an idiot. From what I have tried to resolve this so far: -I updated to latest AMD Drivers -Installed Driver Sweeper and uninstalled any old Nvidia drivers I might have missed. -installed MSI Afterburner and went into settings turned on or checked "Force constant voltage" because I read online that micro stuttering could be a lack of power issue but I dont think thats my issue because I have a relatively new PSU and its rated Gold. -I also went into MSI Afterburner and turned on or checked "Disable ULPS" -I also went into RivaTuner Statistics Server which was installed along with MSI Afterburner and set a framerate limit to 60. I think thats all I have done to try to fix this issue. So I am really in need of help guys and would love your input and help! Please any suggestions will help! I am sick of this teleporting crap. If you have any questions for me to help you find me a solution im all for it! Let me know! Thanks!!! Could use any tips and help! If you need me to do anything to help you, help me, just ask! Please and thank you!!!!

Hello Need some opinions on my new project Here is the list: Asrock h97 pro4 Xfx pro core 550w Intel i5 4460 G.skill Ripjaws 2x4GB 1600mhz Antec Gx 500 Asus PCE-N15 wifi card Samsung 850 EVO 120 gb WD 1TB HDD (3 Additional) Noctua NF-P12b 120mm fans Additional information: -Cheapest wifi card I can get (my entire household is wifi dependant) -I am obsessed with low temperatures that why I added 3 additional fans (cheap, efficient and quiet) -The list does not include graphics card; will rely on the one integrated in the CPU (It can handle "easy games" like LOL right?) -another reason for not having a graphics card (yet) is I cannot afford it (Wait until September); will get a gtx 970 -Nothing personal AMD, but I just like Nvidia better (please lets keep gtx 970 as a done deal) -Allready have a monitor, keyboard and a mouse Appreciate all the comments and feedbacks

I just bought a R9 270x and it worked for almopst a year. Last month, my computer suddenly shut down. I checked everything and it appears that there's a wet part on the PCI-e gold contact pins. I tried to removed it, and discovered that it was corroded and some of the gold covers came off. I had no idea where the water or oil came from, and I was pretty sure that it was the reason why my graphics card doesn't have video anymore. I sent it to the shop where I bought it for RMA and they rejected it because of the corroded part on the PCI-e pins. My question is, is it still possible to fix this card? and is it possible that it isn't the wet substance that caused my graphics card to stop working? by the way, the corroded part was the left part near the DVI, HDMI connectors. I would really appreciate it you guys could give me some advice and tips to have it fixed or repaired because I would love to see it working again. I just don't want to spend any more money to buy another video card since I just upgraded my processor and I have a very limited budget for my PC parts. Thanks in advance!

My R9 290x just died on me, and the warranty was voided because some oil or water spilled on the PCI-e Gold contact pins, and I have no idea how that happened. Anyway, I was so sure that what I wanted as a new card for my computer is the GTX 970 because I've seen a lot of reviews and benchmark results saying that it is slightly better than the R9 290x. However, while I was reading some more reviews, I discovered that there's a VRAM problem with the GTX 970 which is a very hot topic right now. I'm sure you all know about that already. My question is, if I will buy the GTX 970 G1 Gaming, will it still be worth it? I really don't want to do an upgrade until three years or so, and this VRAM allocation problem has been bothering me, which is why I'm writing this thread right now. Do you think the new games that will be released within 2 years will require more than 3.5Gb VRAM? I'm only going to play in 1080p with one monitor, and would love to have every settings maxed out if possible. I'm also looking forward to Elder Scrolls VI (if it will be released), and playing that in Ultra would make me so happy. PC Specs CPU: Intel Core i5-4690k, 3.5Ghz Mobo: MSI Z97 PC Mate RAM: 2x4Gb Kingston HyperX blue HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm Monitor: Asus VX239H LED 23'' IPS Case: Xigmatek Mach PSU: Corsair CX600M

1. Budget & Location Total $1200, $CAD - Has to include PC components, case extras/ lighting, peripherals and a monitor. 2. Aim Casual Adventure, FPS, Strategy, MOBA and MMORPG Gaming. General workload, I'm in uni so nothing too strenuous. 3. Monitors 1. Might move up to 2 in the future. Not looking for anything fancy, I'm fine with a 1080-1440p 60Hz monitor. 4. Peripherals I need all the peripherals, preferably in red or red back lighting to go with my red and black build. I would like a mechanical keyboard eventually but I know that might not squeeze into the budget right now. 5. Why are you upgrading? I've never built or owned my own personal desktop computer and I'm really eager to learn and build my first. Also excited to be joining the pc gaming community and would really like to have the rig and everything to enjoy over the summer. Here's my current build and peripherals excluding the OS and a 1TB HD which I already have. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/OwenPrutton/saved/XZvNnQ Really just looking for feedback, advice, and maybe any warnings people may have for me that will make this process easier, worthwhile and successful. Any advice that relates to performance improvements whilst remaining within budget would be greatly appreciated. Also any potential issues you see in the future would also be extremely helpful. Thanks

Hi, I am just posting everything here just to check if there's any compatibility issue or any components that I've missed. I've been thinking about building a custom water cooling loop for over a week now, and finally, I've put up the components that I will use for my system. Please help me if there's any issues here or if there's any optimization needed, thanks. Build: Intel i7-5930K (EK-TIM Indigo Xtreme - Intel 2011-3) Asus Rampage V Extreme EVGA GTX 980 SuperClocked ACX 2.0 SLI (Arctic Silver 5) Corsair 900D (9x LEPA LP-BOL12P-R 120mm fan --intake, 4x fans ---exhaust for rad, 1x BitFenix BFF-SPRO-P14025KK-RP 140mm fan --rear exhaust) [All of these are PWM, but I have no idea how to configure them, and it also seems that the mobo lacks 4-pin fan headers for all these fans, so... how?] Water Cooling Build: CPU+MOBO MONOBLOCK: EK-FB ASUS R5E Monoblock - Nickel .....(1pc) GPU FULLCOVER BLOCK: EK-FC980 GTX - Nickel ................................(2pcs) TUBINGS: TUBE PrimoChill PrimoFlex™ Advanced LRT™ 12,7 / 9,5mm - Crystal Clear (PFLEXA-12) .........(1pc) RADIATOR: EK-CoolStream RAD XTX (480) .................(1pc) PUMP: EK-XTOP D5 PWM - Plexi (incl. pump) ......(1pc) RESERVOIR: EK-RES X3 250 ...............................................(1pc) TERMINAL (SLI): EK-FC Terminal TRIPLE Parallel - Plexi & EK-FC Terminal BLANK Parallel .................(1pc. each) COOLANT: EK-Ekoolant EVO Blood RED (premix 1L) (3pcs) FITTINGS: EK-ACF Fitting 10/13mm - Black .................(12pcs) Add. Info: I will be putting the rad at the top of the case in a push-configuration with 4x LEPA LP-BOL12P-R 120mm Fan. The terminals will be used to link the two SLI graphics cards (will be overclocked, not sure what's the optimized OC config yet) to the water cooling system. The cards will use the 1st and 3rd port in the motherboard. The Asus R5E monoblock will be used for overclocking (not sure what's the optimized OC config. yet for this build). Not sure about the fittings yet. The premixed coolant is reasonable, and won't be using plain distilled water. The pump and res will go like this: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And finally, where can I buy these, and how much (total)? Simply converting € to $ is not accurate enough. Also, thanks ..an installation guide would be helpful too, but I think I'm asking for too much...

I do not know if I am posting this on the right place so apologies if it's not. I will be using this mainly for Photo and Video Editing but I will also be doing some gaming on it. Here's my situation: I recently bought the following: Intel Core i7-4790k NZXT H440(Red/Black) Case 1TB WD Black Crucial MX100 256GB These items were bundled together so I got them cheaper. Now I need to fill in the rest of my components and I will be needing: A mother board - I am very attracted to Wifi so I am looking at the Z97 Pro(Wi-Fi AC) but am unsure of how the Wireless function on it performs, is it worth it? RAM - looking at a Corsair Vengeance Pro 1600MHz 2x8GB kit but different suggestions are welcome PSU - This is where I am having the most trouble *Right now, my budget for these 3 items are NZ$700, Less will definitely be better. Some items I plan to add along the way: GPU - I am a little short on funds at the moment but will be to chucking in an Asus Strix GTX-970 in a month's time Liquid cooling system - NZXT Kraken X61, will be doing some overclocking one I get a CPU cooler like this or similar I am wondering if the temporary lack of GPU affect my PSU choices? I have been doing quite a lot of research on the ideal PSU but would rather not risk everything especially since this is my first build. I would very much appreciate your thoughts on this.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a gaming build I am planning to do I only need to play games at 1080p and medium/high settings on a single monitor, my budget is around £500 (768USD and 963CAD) The budget is not very flexible unless there would be a significant performance gain. This does not include the price of peripherals. The current plan I have for my build is as follows. CPU - AMD FX6300 MOBO - ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 or Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P GPU - AMD r9 280 HDD - 1Tb Western Digital Black/Blue 60gb SSD boot drive, the Kingston v300 seems good, but I have heard bad things about the quality of the NAND on it, if anyone has this drive could you let me know. RAM - 8Gb ADATA XPG 2DIMM CASE - NZXT Source 210 (I'm not sure about this case) PSU - Corsair CX500M At the moment this is over my budget, so any advise or improvements that anyone has to offer would greatly appreciated Thanks in advance.
