Hi, I decided that I need a Cherry MX brown switch keyboard for my pc but I cannot spend more than 100 bucks. I went searching on the net and I saw tons of customisable keyboards for all tastes. For what I need, my keyboard must be small, compact and elegant (maybe have some fancy leds under the keys). I need help, there is too much choice!!

Hey everyone, I'm going to my exams in a month or so, and I was wondering if anyone had some experience with the WASD-Cherry MX Rubber O-ring switch dampeners. I love my Ducky Shine 2 with brown switches, but they are a bit too loud for exams situations, so does anyone have any experience with any of the 3 types avaliable? :-) link to WASD: http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/cherry-mx-rubber-switch-dampeners.html

Ripster is the foremost expert on mechanical keyboard switches. He does have his air of arrogance and drama but his content is very informative and in-depth. r/Mechanicalkeyboards contains quite the comprehensive wiki but I personally find it very hard to navigate and could be confusing to the first time buyer. You missed ______?!?!? Thanks! I will try and edit in where possible and if not overlapping. You took credit for _____? My original idea was to write my own guide to switches, modifications, and terminology however there were many great resources already available! I therefore decided that a post containing links to great guides and visuals would be the best way to get information into the LinusTechTips forum. Where is information about ____? I tried to only include information that was pertinent to the new buyer. I would be open to making a more advanced wiki. This thread can also be used for simple questions and answers! i.e. Is there a mechanical keyboard with interchangable switches? No the only way to change switches is desolder or remove the stem.

Im just getting into PC Gaming after being a console gamer for most of my life. I just bought a cheap keyboard combo from i-rocks. it uses scissor switches. but im thinking about upgrading to a mechanical. Im looking for a Cherry MX black or red keyboard with green or white backlighting and multi-media controls. macros would be nice but arn't necessary. price doesn't matter, and I know this is a membrane keyboard but im looking at the Steelseries Apex as well. Is it a good buy?

first post on the forum, but I've been here for a while, can someone recommend some good keyboards that are both mechanical preferably mx blues, but also has multicolored back lights? I don't really need any macro keys but if they have them, its ok.

Hi, i'm buying a new mice and keyboard in the next few days and i would like some suggestions on what to buy. For the mice i was considering the Razer Mamba 2012. Since i play both fps games and moba/mmo games more buttons on the mouse can be a plus for me, the wireless feature isn't required but can be a plus too, unless someone can tell me why i shouldn't get a wireless mouse. Currently i own a Razer Lachesis. For the keyboard i was thinking of going with the Corsair K95 but i'm open for suggestions, i have 0 experience with mechanical keyboards so i don't have a favorite Cherry MX switch but i would prefer the ones that are good for gaming. Currently i own a Razer Reclusa. I don't really have a price limit for these, the last time i bought a new mice and keyboard was in early 2008 so i want to get the best out there. Thanks in advance for any reply. PS: where i live there aren't any decent hardware stores that i could go to and test different Cherry MX switches so just tell me your favorite switch and why.

Does anyone know where to get blank metal keycaps from? I have been looking around the internet now for a while already but haven't really found something. Also it's for Cherry MX switches. They should be the size of a normal key, not something like Shift or stuff. Hopefully someone can help me :)

Hello! I want to surprise my buddy with a new mechanical keyboard for his birthday, for the new desktop he is about to buy. This is a very good deal on massdrop, only 5 people missing for the drop to occur. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/ducky-shine-3-gold-edition it's 220 USD with free shipping to US and Canada (maybe more, dunno) and for an insane quality keyboard with backlight and Ducky's original leather wrist rest it's a great value. Let's make it happen! UPDATE: The lowest price have been unlocked! Only 2 days left! Join while you can! I remind you, the price includes a leather Ducky wrist rest (35$ value) and it's lower than the regular price of the keyboard alone (260$) free shipping for US and Canada

CODE mechanical keyboard delivers the click without the noise
Nicktrance posted a topic in Tech News
The CODE mechanical keyboard was born when developer Jeff Atwood, dissatisfied with the current state of keyboard decided to take matter into his own hands and contacted WASD keyboards to come up with his vision of the perfect mechanical keyboard. He describes the result as the "only simple, clean, beautiful backlit mechanical keyboard [he has] ever found." The keyboard makes use of cherry MX clear switches, there fore it is tactile but not clicky with a customizable LED backlight, 6 key USB rollover, navigation keys that double as multimedia controls, a detachable micro USB cable and easily modifiable keys for custom layouts. The keyboard weighs 2.42 pounds and promises very high build quality with rubber coated feet and steel backplate. both 104-key and 87-key models retail for $149.99 Source: http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/30/code-keyboard/ -

Recently I have put my old Dell keyboard on the shelf (I used the old one because the keys were hard, loved the loud sound and feel) for a CM Storm QuickFire Rapid (10keyless for easier transportation) and am loving the Cherry MX Blue Switches. I am kind of obsessed at keeping it nice. I use dishwashing soap to wash my hands before I use it so there is no grease. So my question is; how do you guys transport your keyboards? Just throw it in a bag? I was wondering if there is some type of hard cover case for a keyboard that I could buy in order to prevent it from getting damaged. Thanks all! -Hasan

I am looking to buy a new keyboard because my Razer keyboard that I have now is kinda dying on me, and I need a new Mechanical keyboard for typing and some gaming. I don't need any macros so I am wondering what would be the best keyboard that uses either cherry MX blues, or browns. Please let me know what keyboards you guys use that you like and would recomend.

Hey guys, My membrane keyboard is a slowly deteriorating and dirty thing. Loud and clumsy and sometimes unresponsive - Sometimes even ceasing to function. So I thought I should abandon ship before I am left keyboardless. In case it's relevant, as well as typing a lot, I also play various RTS, FPS and RPGs. I am not too picky about volume but black and blue is my PC's colour scheme and I do love me some macro keys. I don't really want to spend over £80 without proper justification seeing as it is a keyboard. Thanks.

Just saw the below post in my facebook feed: http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-keyboards-keypads/razer-orbweaver?src=pgm.81594800&utm_source=Razer_Social_Media&utm_medium=smlink_US_launch&utm_campaign=razer_orbweaver So basically the orbweaver got updated with the cheaper switches their other mech boards use and they gave in the braided cable from the tartarus that it should have had originally. They dont happen to mention the cable's length though which is a real shame as the original isnt even 6ft which is what I consider to be average. Also if they would have reduced the cost in the saving they got on the switches this would have been the product to do it as the price is a turn off to many. All of us probably saw this coming. Either way to those interested get the genuine Cherry switch ones while you still can.

I was looking at different keyboard options today and I ran into a dilemma being, which Cherry MX keyswitch is best for me (or should I just go for a membrane keyboard like the Cooler Master Devastator Bundle). I would prefer something that is not obnoxiously loud but will provide a good amount of tactile feedback, I will be using it for a variety of different games no genre in particular and a small amount of typing (searching the web). I make YouTube videos and have my microphone close to my keyboard (which is why I don't want it to be loud).
