I'm buying a GPU, and I have narrowed it down to a couple that I want. Newegg has a refurbished EVGA GTX 780 FTW card that I can pick up for about $410 bucks. This is a certified EVGA refurb, so it comes with their 1 year warranty. None of the cables or accessories are included. This also has the dual-bios chip and is "pre-OC'd", so it is a pretty nice card. Only thing I am worried about is that it is a refurb, so that means it was RMA'd for some reason and they just repaired it. I know its certified to meet spec, but still. I also found someone on r/hardwareswap selling an ASUS 780 DC2OC for $400. This comes with all the original accessories like SLI, molex adapters, driver discs, manuals, boxes, etc. They say they got the card to +180 GPU, and +290 mem OC, with temps sitting right around 70c. So, tell me, which one is the better buy? Which card should I go with?

Hello. Q: Do i need a better powersupply when i change these hardwares? My current setup: - Silverpower 620W - 80 bronze - 16GB corsair DD3 (vegenance) - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition - Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3, Socket-AM3 - Western Digital Caviar® Green 2TB - Samsung 120GB basic kit SSD - Gainward GeForce GTX 560Ti 2GB PhysX - Sony Optiarc DVD±RW Burner, AD-5280S This setup is not overclocked. Over the summer I have been interning at a local railway company and over the course of this internship my job has been to convert old programs from VB6 to C# (no idea why they dont want VB.net) and write new tools for them to use and the tools range in function from analyzing raw track data to double checking track placement information and track design. Im supposedly the first "true" programmer they have ever hired as they said that programming these smaller tools has always been done by low level technicians that picked up coding on the fly for rapid prototyping. I got hired on since Microsoft is ending support for VB 6 and they have no one on staff that is familiar with more modern languages and standards. The problem is the companys lack of good programmers shows and not in a good way. I havent had many problems up until this point as I was mainly writing new programs from scratch, for this program in particular they said they just wanted it commented to see how it works to have it converted at a latter date by myself or someone else when i go back to school. This sent up a red flag, they have a program that they don't even know how it all even works and the original guy that wrote it left the company 5 years ago, all they know is that the program does what its supposed to do, design control line blocks for railway systems. So i went to go look at this program to dig around to see how it works and I was awestuck by what I found, no only was there no comment in sight, this program is over 20k lines long and spread across a couple files but there is not a single comment to what does what. Not a single one, this would have not been a problem as im well versed in reading code and its like reading english to me, however this might as well be scribbles on a paper as the program did not even use proper naming conventions!!! Here is a segment of one of the many functions within this program. Private Function testfunction1(ds, x1, x2, x4, x6, t5, t6, t7, T8, T9, t10) Dim m, i, j, j1, L2, k, k1, X, xx, x3, x5, x7, x9, x10, x11, x15, xt1, xt2, Tk2, ssss0 As Long Dim t0, t1, t2, t3, t4, vv, sbd, vdx, vtx, XSpd, GG, G1,G2, Z77 As Single Dim VvV() As Single Static vd, vt, vd6, vt6, vv6 As Single Dim mg, mg1, mg2 As String This has got to win the worst code ever award, after spending 2days on this one function alone ( there are about 150 functions in total with this program) i finally figured out what it actually does, supposedly this function takes various bits of information from acceleration, grade, velocity, and so on and provides a realistic view of how a train is supposed to run and compares it with an original source file. My problem is that NONE OF THEM ARE NAMED PROPERLY. It honestly looks like some guy sat down and just started using variable names without regards to naming them based on what they do. I mean for goodness sakes the function name is testfunction1, come on he couldn't have named it something like TrainAnalysis or something appropriate? As for the whole mass of x variables the first thing you would think would be that they are different distance variables.....NOPE some of them are Velocitys, some are Acceleration rates, Some are Gradients, Some are different Motor Torques applied. This barely even qualifys as code here is another section of code from a different function, my god its completely unreadable and just punishing to even look at. If (Tk2 <> x6) Then x4 = x6 - x1 + 1 If VtStd(x4 + x2) <= VtStt(x4 + x2) Then t0 = VtStd(x1) + t4 ElseIf x2 = x7 Then t0 = t4 End If Private Function testfunction47(a, Pah1, Pah2, Ahhhs() As Long, Hfactor() As Single) Dim i, j, k, ke, kf, kk, m, x1, x2, xXxX3, X4, x5, Lunt, Toes, TkIDx As Long Dim t, t1, cv, PP0, PPlen, t3, t4 As Single Dim T9, SN, msg, TemName As String This just makes me want to puke, the "Lunt" and "Toes" variables are stupid names as well, Lunt is basically a variable for retrieving the track design length, "Toes" is the max speed of a train on that track segment. This is just impossible. Now the big dilemma is how do i even go about telling my boss that this code is so bad and so terribly written that it should just be thrown in the trash and something new should be created? To think they are trusting MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR Train Testing contracts to this program is just sickening. So how do I go about basically saying that whoever he had working on this project was a complete and total idiot and this should have never made it as a primary tool? As basically im insulting not only a former employee but a whole group of "Code Monkeys" that are supposed to maintain this program (5 people). i think this is unacceptable that this program has no structure or flow, does not make any sense with naming and does not have a single line of comments to be found. I don't want to lose my job, however I feel im between a rock and a hard place with this one program because it is so broken and such an insult to programming that it should not even be used. to think that 5 people let this slide by and said it was fine, If i was there boss I would fire them on the spot. Im just at a loss on this one, anyone have any thoughts?

So I want to build a PC, but i want to be able to keep the price about the same as i have it in these two builds. I'm trying to decide if this Intel Build would be best, or this AMD Build but i'm not sure which would perform best. My build is going to be mostly for video editing, 3D Rendering, with moderate to hardcore gaming with friends. Which would be best, and is there any minor things to improve it without increasing the price too much, or anything to lower the price without sacrificing any performance? (but please don't say "SSD and HDD" i'm fine with the SSHD)

For everyone looking to build a gaming PC on a $1500 budget, here's the ultimate parts list for January 2014: CPU: Intel Core I7-4770K $319.99 CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i Liquid CPU Cooler $99.99 Motherboard: Asus Z87-A $129.99 RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866MHz CMY16GX3M2A1866C9R $159.99 SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 120GB $99.92 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB WD10EZEX $59.98 GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5 $349.99 Case: Corsair Carbide Series 200R $54.98 Case Fans (optional): Kingwin CF-012LB X2 $7.96 Power Supply: Seasonic 80+ Platinum Fully Modular 760W SS-760XP2 $99.99 CD DVD Drive: Asus Part DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS $19.98 OS: Windows 8 64-Bit OEM DVD $97.98 Total:$1499.74 Notes: The system part list was created using PcPartPicker. The total price includes current shipping, sales and rebates. A 760W power supply is overkill. I only chose it so you can add another graphics card if you want later on without upgrading the power supply also. 16GB of RAM is also overkill. The only reason I chose 16GB of RAM is for future upgrades. If I chose 1 8GB module instead, I would run out of bandwidth. If I chose 2 4GB modules, to upgrade, I would have to remove and discard the old RAM (what a waste) to be able to upgrade to 32GB. With 2 8GB modules, you spend a little more now to save on future upgrades later. With 2 8GB modules, I could buy another kit and have 32GB. What do you think?

Hey, i think about getting one of those cards after this semester's exams. Right now i have a Gigabyte R9 280X, which i got due to the mining hype. However meanwhile mining doesn't pay out in germany because of the electricity cost. I am not happy with the Gigabyte Windforce cooler at all. It's loud and ugly. I previously owned a MSI TF 770 and i plan on going back to that cooler, just with a slighty higher end card, as it suites my colour scheme. I could potentially sell my 280X for 240€ on ebay. A MSI R9 290 is 360€, a MSI GTX 780 is 470€. I am shopping from germany. Which one should i buy? I really like the idea of G-Sync and, if money allows, would also get a G-Sync monitor in Q3 this year. But maybe AMD comes up with a nice alternative and they still have mantle going for them, plus it's obviously cheaper. Or should i wait for Maxwell? I know you can only speculate what the GTX 870 or 880 will perform like and they will most likeley be expensive as hell. My concern with selling the 280X is, that it is still worth money right now and will sell for way less 3-4 months down the line, IMO. What do you think? what prices can i expect in 4 months from now? Nuff said, thanks for reading.

So I'm wondering which one out of the two below is better: -Samsung 120GB 840 Evo SSD -Corsair 120GB Force LS SSD The corsair is cheaper which would help a bit with price but can anyone recommend any of them for performance and lifetime if not, suggestions would help! -Thanks!

Which mouse is better in your opinion, they're both the same price. I was leaning towards the Deathadder since I already have a Black Widow (love it) and I wouldn't have to download more software, but the Corsair mouse looks very well built, compared to Razer "chic plastic". Or if anyone has a better mouse for around ~$70, that would be greatly appreciated.

While the R9 290X's dominance over the Titan is questionable, it sure is faster than it's main competitor, the 780. And at 550$, it is a bargain. Now, when one compares the specs sheet of the 290 to the 290X, and the fact that the 290 will be priced at about 400 to 450$ when released, I think the 290 is the real bargain of this year's graphics cards. Thoughts?

Okay so my brother is getting a new laptop for gaming and i presume some work as well (mainly gaming tho) and i would like to hear some good recommendations i could give him. Currently he is considering a Asus G750jh, personally i don't know a whole lot about laptops since i own a PC and thus only ever cared about their hardware. the price for a Asus g750jh is 1699€ here (Finland) and i am assuming the price range that lower or the same, is there anything he should know of it, i know he wants 1080P @60Hz (more if you can) at the very least 500Gb of HDD storage and an SSD (120 to 250Gb). Personally i think the 780M w 4Gb of Vram is overkill (maybe i am just jelly with my 7950). But that aside is there anything better out there somewhere . also he uses the will need a Bluray drive since he uses his current laptop to display it on a TV (HDMI required then). the only worry i have about his laptop of choice is that the CPU is slow (@ 3.4Ghz turbo) and only has 6Mb cache, wich is sort of equivalent to my I5 3570K as the laptop has an I7 4700HQ. (i do realize it is a laptop but can the CPU be any faster?) Cooling wise it really doesn't matter unless the fire department needs to be handy, he already has a cooling platform for his current one not to mention he doesn't hold the laptop on his lap when it is in use. The interface (keyboard and mouse pad/touch pad/alien device) doesn't need to be extremely advanced because he uses a separate mouse and Keyboard. Basically is there anything that rivals the G750jh at the same pricepoint, or any for that matter.

So I am building a system, and i want to try and lower the price, while sacrificing little to no performance. Aside from the case, what can I do to make it cheaper? PS. If there is a 64 gb ssd, or a SSHD that had at least a tb that would be able to lower my price, that would be ideal along with any other things. I would like to state that this is more so for 3d rendering, and video editing, although gaming on the side is a plus. Thank you -Axo P.s. it occurred to me that i accidentally forgot the part list so http://pcpartpicker.com/p/26JQ2 Also, i know i spelled Cheaper wrong! Don't judge!

So as the title says, my friend rather have an XboxOne with just the master chief collection and a Wii U with Smash Bros rather than a PS4 with all its games and upcoming games (not exclusives, all games). I told him that is just an opinion but he claims that it's true for all people. (i know that part was a bit of a troll). My Friend didn't watch E3 2013 or 2014 and he doesn'y watch or read hardly anything about games besides subreddits and he barely knows any current or upcoming exclusives on the PS4. He also doesn't know many games that asre coming to both consoles. What do you guys think? Is my friend right?
