(sorry if this is in the wrong spot) So, this morning, to my dismay, my Lumia stopped detecting it's sim card. As such, I have begun my look into a new phone, and the Moto G seems to be a rather good option. However, Australia is horrible when it comes to finding tech, and as such I'm trying (and failing) at finding a 16 GB Moto G, so I was wondering if anyone on here knew where to find one.

Hello internets, So I've been battling for a while now with my S3. Sure, it is a little old, but its still lightning fast after the last software update and I enjoy using it. However, after using an iPhone for a period of about 5 weeks, returning to the S3 is proving to be difficult, with the S3 having problems with my sim. I'm from Australia, and am currently with a telecom called Optus. I love Optus for its amazing prepaid caps, and I've never had to speak to any one from Optus ever. My experience with the company has been a breeze, and so I wish to continue with them. However, Instagram refuses to work over mobile data now, and I am also fairly certain that Clash of Clans doesn't load over data either (not that a game is really all that important). Being able to use instagram no matter where I am was one of the reasons I purchased the phone in the first place two years ago, and is something I'm not willing to live without. I have tried a Telstra sim in my phone (courtesy of my mother) and everything loads fine. Instagram and CoC are the only affected apps as far as I know, and it really bothers me as I know that in the early days of using the iPhone I often went back and forth between them with zero problems. Does anyone know how I might rectify this issue? Any advice, as always, is greatly appreciated - tharrison14

Saw this on Australian TV news this morning when getting ready for work. I had to share. Source: http://www.news.com.au/world-news/shelby-buster-was-told-she-too-fat-to-shop-at-clothes-store/story-fndir2ev-1226710133094 To be really honest my immediate reaction was to laugh. But really I can't imagine how that girl must feel. Thoughts?

(Interestingly i got halfway through posting this and it ran out, so i have had to retype it out on my 3G) Edit: grammer

Gaming mATX - Graphics Card and Case Size Concerns
Cskillz posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi, Living in Australia. Just moved so I only have a netbook and a tablet (you can't imagine...) Budget and Prices are $AUD. Budget is $1800. Going to be used for gaming, high end gaming and Wildstar when it launches (so excited) Running a max of maybe three monitors in future but for now one. No need to discuss peripherals. I keep going to www.pccasegear.com and knocking different things together but this is something I keep returning to. Let me know what you think. I know I'm tight on graphics cards...- 11 replies

Story from /. This makes me hopeful for our Australian friends. :D Maybe computers/services will get cheaper? Hopefully. Do note that this is different from how Europe does it (where they just replace the $ with a £ which isn't equivalent, but makes up for VAT to an extent). If that's how it works. I don't live there. No idea. Thoughts? I didn't find an article about this using the search function.

Hi, I've been saving up for a long time and I finally have enough cash to spend on a new system. With the help of an IT-capable friend, I was able to come up with my dream build! But, just like most IT amateurs, we selected the parts based on my liking, however we couldn't determine if they are actually compatible with each other or not. So, I'd really appreciate it if you could just write a sentence or two describing your opinion. 1) Budget: $1900 Australian Dollars Aim: mainly for high-end gaming 2) Monitor: 27” 4ms BenQ EW2740L Slim Bezel 3) Peripherals: already got everything I need 4) Upgrading because my laptop is dying _______________________________________________________________________________ Here's my build: CPU: Intel BX80646I54690K Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz 6MB LGA1150 Haswell Refresh Boxed CPU Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H Intel Z97 4xDDR3/3xPCI-Ex16/HDMI/DVI/D-SUB/Intel GbELAN/ATX Motherboard SSD: Samsung 840BW EVO MZ-7TE250BW 250G SATAIII Solid State Drive SSD Graphics Card: Gigabyte R929OC-4GD 4GB R9-290 OC PCI-E VGA Card RAM: G.Skill Trident-X 16GB Kit (8Gx2) DDR3-2400 F3-2400C10D-16GTX Power Supply: Antec TPC-750 750W True Power Classic 80Plus Gold Power Supply Unit Optical Drive: ASUS Black/24x DVD-RW Writer Retail Packing Hard Drive: Seagate 3.5" Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM001 SATA3 7200rpm 64MB Cache Hard Disk CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper-212 EVO Universal CPU Cooler Monitor: 27” 4ms BenQ EW2740L Slim Bezel Case: Thermaltake VN700M1W2N Overseer RX-I Mid Tower with Docking / USB3.0 without PSU _________________________________________________________________________________ Please recommend any improvements that I could make to this system to make it more futureproof while maintaining the same budget. Also, please check the compatibility of all the parts. Appreciate the responses. Thanks

Just a reminder to any Australian students graduating this year (2012) or next year, you can grab a whole bunch of software for free from http://nsw.dec.onthehub.com. Instructions on how to redeem are in this PDF: http://www.khhs.nsw.edu.au/enews/Sept2012/2012_Grad_SOE_Student_Transfer_of_Ownership.pdf. Total worth of the copy's I received comes to approximately AUD$3535.4. Wouldn't be a bad idea to pick up on, all content is however digital download only so a lot of you will need to watch your bandwidth caps.

So yeah...if you don't know what Fibre To The Node is, it's the Liberal party's way of cutting costs on the NBN. Basically they run fibre from the telephone exchange to a node or "fibre box" which then uses the existing copper infrastructure to connect to individual houses. The trials were delayed for 3 months if I recall correctly, but it's finally been tested with some rather astonishing results, TBH. Impressive...really impressive. Note that the upload speed is weirdly slower from a closer distance to the node, I suspect this is just a tiny bit of variation in the tests, nothing too out-of-the-ordinary. My only concern is that these speeds would drop dramatically if there were more houses being fed by that specific node in that test. According to the source, which I will mention towards the end, only 4 end users were involved in the test. I would kill for those speeds though, 33Mbps is plenty for Twitch streaming which I am unable to do now on my 0.8Mbps upload speed. And downloading Steam games at 98Mbps - it wouldn't take 3-5 hours to download games and updates anymore. Source: http://www.computerworld.com.au/article/553025/nbn_end_users_approach_100mbps_fttn/ (obscure source, only used it since it had the distances from the node)

Hello, recently I found a really good value plan with vodafone where for $10 more then I'm paying at the moment I get a far superior device then I have at the moment and much better plan. That said, whenever I bring it up, everyone always seems to say the same thing. "Vodafone has crap reception though" That's what I'm looking into. If anyone on here uses/has used them in the last couple of years please tell me what your experience was like in terms of call quality, network reliability, customer service ETC, and preferably where about (just like rough locations) you've used it. And if it matters, I'm about 2 hours north of Sydney and on optus 3G at the moment

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and have found there seems to be a lot of Aussies on here. So, I was just wondering, if any of you fellow Aussie's out there have recommendations of shops/stores to go to? I currently live in Brisbane and the only shop I really check out is MSY. Not only physical stores, but online stores that ship to Australia without costing more than the actual items. I tend to find lots of awesome and cheap builds but the online stores either don't ship to Australia or just aren't worth it because of postage. I'm sorry if there's already a topic on this, I couldn't seem to find one (search function doesn't seem too useful). I know I could just Google it, but I'd rather the opinion of you guys. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello, I'm in a spot of trouble. I wish to order a Moto X from Moto Maker (Specificly one with a bamboo back), but as I live in Australia (Ballarat, Its near Melbourne) they do not ship here. Another problem is they do not accept Australian credit cards. I have tried US postal forwarding services, but this is where the credit card problem comes in. Some services all you to get them to buy for you, but it seems Motorola has banned this. Now getting to the point, this may be a lot to ask for but I was hoping a kind internet stranger could possibly buy one and ship it over? Thank you if you even considered this as I understand the reasons you may not be able to, and you can help Thank you!

Hi, this is my first post! Although I have been on the forums and following LTT for quite a while now. I am really struggling with choosing a graphics card. I am not sure whether I should go with the R9 290 or the GTX 780, both probably being DirectCU II versions. I am from Australia where everything is more expensive, so here are the prices: Asus R9 290 DirectCU II: $589 Asus GTX 780 Direct CU II: $649 OR Risk shipping the 780 from Amazon America to Aus for around $550 AUD plus shipping. I plan on playing the latest titles on ultra at 1920x1200. What do you guys think? I personally think that NVIDIA has better software, but I don't know whether I should go with the 290 from here or risk shipping the 780. Thanks

Okay so two weeks ago i finally built my first pc the specs are i5-4670k cooled by a cooler master hyper 212 evo 8 gigs of g.skill ram at 1600mhz Sapphire r9 290 Tri X edition gigabyte ga-z87x-d3h antec 620w high current gamer power supply and it's all in a define r4 with only the fans that came with the case. Everything is still at stock speeds as i have absolutely no idea where to begin learning about over clocking, you guys probably get asked about a million times on this forum so i sorry if this is the millionth and 1 time but can you tell me which componets i should overclock first? Does it make a difference? I have Trixx and furmark installed, but i'm not exactly sure what to do with them, any help you could give me would be appreciated. So, I have a desk, and on this desk is a screen, some generic 16:9 1080p screen. But this screen is lonely, and needs a partner in crime. Now to cut to the chase, I am looking for the smallest flat screen monitor that I can get my hands on. I used to have a 3:4 dell monitor that was given to almost everyone who purchased a basic PC 5-4 years ago and it seems to fit my needs perfectly, but as fate would have it, I gave it to a friend who I built a PC for. He now uses it as a secondary screen and refuses to let me steal it back due to it being one of the few cheapo screens that has an adjustable height and rotation. Here is some store page of one, But I don't think its the same model name because the 1703FP seems to have a semi circle base, where as the one I was looking for is the one seen in the pictures. https://cfiestore.com/monitors/dell_flat_panel_color_monitor/mondel02sgtd/dell_ultrasharp_1703fp_1734_tft_flat_panel_color_monitor.html I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get one?
