Hello! So, yeah, I am planning on buying a Noctua NH-D15 air cooler, or D14. But I'm not sure if it will fit my case. I have NZXT 410 case. I want an air cooler because my closed loop water cooler is way too noisy and it not even all that effective in terms of cooling. It's Antec KÜHLER H2O 950. There should be like a ~1cm of space for the D15 but I want to know if someone really knows. And is my RAM small enough that I could use both coolers with 2 fans, my RAM is G.Skill RipjawsX 1866MHz 16Gb (2x 8Gb, DDR3). Thank you!

Hi First time, first post, not the first build I've done some builds - mostly hackinto$h rigs for friends and colleagues who can not afford the "iTrashcan" but are forced, or felt like using Final Cut Pro. The times are changing and FCP is no more this powerhouse of innovation it used to be |* ....so I am Now using the Adobe Suite plus some NUKE and some mac specific fractalresizing tools - still need osx. After 6 Years (!!!) I am building a new rig for myself. The old one is still good enough for most work but I would like to edit 4K native and not proxy anymore and since it has to be somehow osx86 hackable I have to relay on the Gigabyte motherboards mostly because they are very well supported in the community. My questions for you all: 1. Do I really depend so much on the CPU for PremierePRO and AfterEffects? Do I still invest in a monster CPU (double Xeons) with many cores and some smart GPU (Gaming or low-end Quadro) or a monster quad SLI or double TITANs for the CUDA power and some smart quad-core CPU 2. I know the more RAM the happier but is there a glass ceiling? Is there much difference between 32, 64 and 128 Gb RAM for AfterEffects or is 32Gb + raid0 on SSD enough for smooth 4K and 1080p work. Asking because 64 and 128 Gb is only possible on more pricey X motherboards. 3. Is it still any Quadro over top GTX or is this only the question of reliability and computing precision which I would never really see on the screen? I am a freelancer with some knowledge in electronics so I have no problem with troubleshooting some problems with graphic output, but still there are some days I would prefer not to make my hands greasy - especially when the client is sitting beside me. 4. RAID 50 SSD or should i go to the wild side with RAID 0 SSD and daily backups to cheaper HDD RAID3 5. M.2, PCI-E or just "plain" SSD RAID for media cache? Does it really pay to invest in PCI-E storage or even M.2 or is it just early adopter and high end pro thing and the speed to $ ratio is insane 6. Water or AIr? I know, this question is somehow like "Windows or Mac" and every one can answer "if you can afford it buy it". My question is is the Water loop (not prebuild cpucollers, but system cooling with gpu) still worth the investment or are the newer CPUs cooled enough by air (noise, or better the lack of it, is super important to me) So this is everything I would like to know from You guys I hope there are some questions for other Editors SFX guys here Of course if You want some questions about Hackintosh I would be glad to answer them (hacking since Leopard) Thank You and Cheers K _______________ *sorry but the X version is elegant and sh..t but I never edited on a Moviola so I don't need/get this one timeline approach

i have a 4790, non k , so no OC but my ambient temp is really really high, about 35-39 C, the stock cooler makes it reach 85c easily, and sometimes even 90c, it stops it from turbo going and even thermal throtles it. I am looking at a hyper 212 evo , but i have to know that the temps will be lower, i want to reach 75 while rendering, so almost 100% load if the 212 evo is not enough i would go for a h110i, or similar 240mm cooler, but unless i really need to get it to reach below 75 under 100% , i don't want to spend the time Keep in mind, the ambient is really really hot it would be awesome if someone knows the tempratures the cpu gets with the coolers, and tell me if a evo 212 is enough, or i have to go with the more expensive h110 extra info I got a 980ti in the system as well, which kicks off some heat (running 83c on 100%) (55 idle) i am sitting at 51c idle with the stock cooler I won't do OC, i can't even do it, so i am only at 3.6ghz turbo to 4.0

What's your favourite aircooler/air cooling manufacturer? I personally love zalman and their cnps9900max. There was another great manufacturer (crap I forgot their name) that had some gorgeous dual-stacks with swappable coloured "shrouds" around the stacks, ala corsair af fans but for the stacks. But I digress; what is your favourite aircooler/manufacturer?

Hey, I was wondering about only being able to get only an overclock on 4.2 Ghz max on my intel core i7 5930k. I'm new at overclocking, so was wondering about the settings for the CPU might not be the most optimal. My PC is aircooled by a cooler master v8 gts. But I atleast hoped for an OC about 4.5 Ghz even though it's aircooling. So whats i''m asking is the most optimal setting in the bios and how to tune it the best way. So, I currently do have a PC, but I'm looking to upgrade it soon, and I'm not sure if I should go for a quiet build, or something that looks nice too. An example of what I mean is I'm fairly sure for my new case I want a Define R5. Should I get a windowed version and a Nepton 240M (this would mean I'd have to remove the Modu-vents, thus increasing the amount of noise) or the non-windowed version and a Noctua D15. I'm open to any suggestions, especially other cases for me to look at. I'd like something with as many features of the R5 as possible (dust filters, sound dampening, etc), but smaller and still quiet, any ideas? Obviously I already own anything marked purchased, anything else is what I'm planning to get. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/hW3ThM Thanks in advance!

Hello friends. I've been watching Linus tech tips for over a year now but I've never tuned in to these forums. So lets get to my problem. My current case is Cooler Master Elite 430 (My side panel has 2 fan slots and no window). I have a front and rear 120mm fans. And I'm buying a third fan. I've heard from our fellow Linus that higher inside pressure must be maintained so that less dust goes in. My question here is where should place the third fan If I'm aiming mainly for better VRAM and RAM cooling. My current plan is to place it as an intake fan either on the bottom or the side hole blowing directly at the graphic's card. I noticed I have a slight cooling problem when I started playing GTA 5 which uses almost all my current 8gb. (upgrading to 16GB along with the fan) After some time playing my sort of old setup (mentioned below) starts to stutter and rubberband in game. And looking at the temps I think it might be a Temp issue. My GPU cant ever go above 61°. My Vram however goes to 70+ and that might be the main issue. I tried to see what the RAM temps are but I don't think I have sensors on it. Nothing comes up in AIDA 64. I Started using a custom fan curve in Asus Gpu tweak which lowered my Overal temps by 7-10 degrees but that only delays the ingame problem. None of my components are overclocked. Setup: Motherboard Asrock B75 Pro-3M Cpu i5-3570 @3.4Ghz Gpu Asus Gtx 660 2GB Vram RAM 2x4gb ADATA 1600mhz (soon to be 4x4GB) SSD Samsung 840Evo 250 GB HDD Seagate Barracuda 1TB PSU Seasonic SS-620GB 620W (80 plus Bronze) Non modular I'm sorry for the long post. If anyone has a better Idea what my problem could be or a better cooling solution I'll be glad to try it out.

Hi everyone, Ive searched the forum high and low for some R( 290X specific overclocking guides and results. My search has turned up with a few posts of which do not answer the questions I have to ask. I have an MSI R9 290X Gaming 4G Overclocking Edition with the stock cooler running in a room with the ambient temperature of 21c. Ive managed to get 1100 core and 1350mem. Does anyone have any other suggestions to try and squeeze more from this card? The max temps in 1440P gaming get to about 79c at 90-100% load for hours on end. But I cant seem to push it pass these clocks even by 5 mhz without a system crash. Ive heard about ratio clocking with these cards. That the core and memory like to be clocked in certain ratios of each other. Ive seen people with 1200core and 1460memory on air so I kind of feel gypped.Fortunately for me I obtained a spectacular i5 sample that will run stable at 5.1ghz at 1.37v with a max load of 61c but I downed the clock and voltage a bit to elongate its life lol.. I felt 1.37v to be a bit high. Here is a screen grab of my set up. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, LTT Fan Joe Pelikan

Hi. I'm building my friend a mid-range rig, the budget is around 500€ It's not a really much of a deal, 750 ti + fx 6300 My idea was to put a 120mm fan in the front bottom of the case (in-taking), than, the graphics card cooler(hot air goes up anyway) + Hyper TX3 54.8 (that would be facing up, out-taking to the open holes in the top of the case)well, out-taking. I think that would be enough, as the CPU cooler fan would get the out-take job done while the bottom front would supply them the needed air. Probably keeping the pressure neutral-high. (I'd also put a dust filter in the front one cuz o' obvious reasons) Is this a good idea? Thanks for your time.

I just ran prime 95 on my i7 4790k rig that has a noctua nh u14s and MSI afterburner read the temperature from the idle of like 35 to like 87 degrees under 100% load which is weird because i didnt go over 1.3 volts in cpu z and i was wondering if anyone noticed anything similar

Hi guys, I've recently built a computer with the NZXT H440 case. I'm using the included 3 120mm fans as an intake at the front, but with the dust filter and the restricted environement, I think the 2 radiator fans at the top of the case cant take that much air, affecting the CPU cooling. In addition, the included fans spin at full speed as they are connected to a fan hub at the back of the motherboard (directly powered by a Molex cable), and they do a more than just noticeable noise. I'm considering to replace the front fans and to buy a splitter which would allow me to control the fans via BIOS while they are connected to the PSU with a Molex or a SATA cable. Here's my doubt: I don't really know if doing this replacement would improve the temperatures in my system and if it would reduce the noise level. In this case, which fan should I choose? Thanks in advance, Ivax98

So I'm not sure about my fan config in my case. I'm using a Corsair 450D with 2 intake fans on the front and one exhaust in the back. I'm also using a Nepton 240m for CPU cooling pooling air into the case and I'm running 2 blower 970s. Should the fans on the rad exhaust air? Anything else wrong with my config?

I'm looking for a ATX case for this build: GPU: Radeon r9 290x TRI-X ( really long graphics card ) Cpu: i7 4790k Powersupply: EVGA Supernova G2 750w Motherboard: Asus Z97-A The case needs to have great airflow since the r9 tends to get pretty heated. I would like it to have good cable management and have lots of space.

Ok, so first of all, I'm new to this building PCs world and I have a question on cooling systems (since its both on water and air, didn't wanted to post it on the specifics forums). I have a stock fan on my AMD's FX 6300 black edition and sometimes when I'm gaming (read: most of the time) the noise it makes can get a pretty annoying, it someties comes up whne I'm just browsing the internet. I assume its from the heat it produces so I was thinking of getting better cooling for it and more silent. Keep in mind that I live in Puerto Rico, and its always hot and humid all the year and if the noise its annoying on "winter", can't imagine on summer. So here is where I need your expert help. I was thinking of getting better fan cooler like Cool Master Hyper 212 EVO and didn't knew if to leave the fan or take it out. Also, for water cooling like Corsair H60. As you might have seen, im trying to stay off 100$ price point. But if there is no other option i will accept it. Overall I play some League Of Legends and a few other games, not really a hardcore gamer. To sum it up, I'm looking for a silent (at least less noise than the stock fan) solution, while keeping in mind that I live in Puerto Rico and it can get pretty hot and humid on the summers here. Expert's of Linus community, unleash your wisdom on me.

Hi guys, I've recently built a new PC with the NZXT H440 case and I'm getting some trouble concerning cooling. I'm using an Intel i7-4790K, and even if I haven't oveclocked, I feel like the temperatures are not OK. The cooler itself is a Corsair H100i with two SP120s replacing the included fans connected directly to the pump in a push config. I've replaced the rear case fan too with an AF140. The front intake fans are the NZXT FN V2 (those included with the case) and are pulling air into the case through the dust filter, which reduces considerably the airflow; they are connected to the fan hub at the back of the motherboard and powered by a Molex cable. I've installed the Corsair Link software but it seems not to work properly, as it can't manage any fan and the temperatures shown don't correspond to the real ones. The fact is that when the CPU starts getting warmer, the rear fan (connected to the motherboard) increases its RPM, but the radiator ones (connected to the pump and managed "theoretically" by the Corsair Link software) don't. I think I could solve the radiator problem by buying an Y splitter and plugging the SPs to the motherboard, but I'm still not convinced about the front fans. Considering they don't manage to provide that much airflow, the radiator fans are unable to take enough air to work fine (which added to the RPM's problem makes a great combo). I've thought about replacing the 3 front fans with 3 Noctua NF-F12, as they are quiet, PWM, and they have a great static pressure which would be useful in the closed environement (the dust filter and the H440's front cover) and connecting them to the motherboard using, again, a splitter. So here comes my doubt: while I think two fans to one header is OK, I'm not that convinced about plugging three fans to one single header. I know I could connect them to the hub, but I'm looking for silence and I'd like to be able to control the RPMs. I hope you guys can find a solution. All suggestments welcome, Ivax98

I currently own a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (stock fan config), and am planning on upgrading my CPU from an AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE (overclocked from 3.2 GHz to 3.7 GHz) to an AMD FX 8320 (planning on overclocking), I was wondering if it would be more worth it to just upgrade the fans on my Hyper 212 Evo to 2 SP120s, or buy a Cooler Master Seidon 120v and upgrade the fans to 2 SP120s. My current temps under very minimal load on my Phenom II are in the low forties (Celsius). I know the FX 8320 is going to get hotter than the Phenom II, is this cooler upgrade worth it?
