  1. So cool, would love to have one in my ghetto man cave
  2. Can you review lego mind storms, it seems to be the standard and I would assume has the biggest community & support. What about micro controllers like arduino or edison. I've always wanted to get into robotics & electronics but dont really know where to start.
  3. I literally just ordered a Lenovo Thinkpad yoga 14 just before this video went live, its the business class brother to the yoga 3 14, i would have gone with the yoga 3 but I managed to find the thinkpad for less due to a pricing stuff up. I considered the MSI GE62 with 960m but chose portability over power because i've noticed people with lighter laptops game more in class vs those with heavy gaming laptops because they don't even bother bringing them, I find myself playing casual games like rocket league and besieged rather than hardcore FPS not because my laptop cant handle it but because im usually multitasking, most people would rather do their 'hardcore' gaming on a desktop or console. I think a lot of students will happily spend $1500+ on a laptop, every lecture theater (except IT ) is basically a wall of 13" macbooks
  4. The UX303LN is by far the better ultrabook, CPUs are basically identical in performance but the 840m is leagues ahead of the 820m plus 256 SSD
  5. Which UX501, the FHD model has a terrible TN screen otherwise yeah Asus is way better but if your considering a yoga pro then you clearly dont need the performance, the Yoga Pro is core M which basicly makes it a really expensive tablet (a flimsy one at that), if you want light maybe have a look at the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 carbon, build much better & has a proper CPU
  6. MSI GS60, gtx970m, 1.9kg, Broadwell i7 5700HQ & optional 4k ips screen, top spec model is $1.9k in US
  7. On cheaper laptops a 768p ips screen is acceptable & looks alright but at $1k+ US I expect a FHD IPS panel. The problem is in Australia we dont get the range of models like you do in the US & even UK, in store is the cheapest but then they dont have the range of models, currently last years model is only available in stores but it has the same issue I had with the UX303LB, only a dual core 5500U CPU.
  8. Its only instock at one store & it was on special so I suspect its about to get replaced or discontinued.
  9. HTC One M8, but I still prefer my old S3, Id love to get an S6 but they are expensive.
  10. looking for a portable 13-15" well build laptop for uni with a dedicated GPU for playing basic 3D games (i'm thinking GT840m - GTX950m). Budget is around $1000 - 1400 US (~$1400-1800 AUS). preferable under 2.1KG, ips FHD screen, ideally 14" but there not very common, only need a small SSD (happy to upgrade myself if HDD), no CD drive, 4 hour+ battery, good keyboard. I was looking at the Asus UX501 (15", i7HQ, 960m) which at 2.4KG is the biggest I want to go however its only available with a terrible washed out FHD glossy 200nits TN screen locally which is a deal breaker (not 4k ips like US). At the other end of the spectrum was the 1.5KG Asus UX303LB (13", i7U, 940m) which I liked a lot more but wonder if a dual core CPU is enough for running games like cities skylines or CAD. The Acer V nitro 15 & MSI GE62 are similar to the ux501 but heavier / bulkier & i really dont need a 960m (I already a desktop for serious gaming) and then theres almost no other 13-14" laptops with low-mid spec dedicated GPUs which are reasonable well build & well priced, the Razor 14 & Aorus X3 are close to what I want just dont need the crazy performance (or price), I know im starting to ramble a bit but I do wish Asus made a 14" Zenbook with a GTX 950m, quad core CPU (skylake?), FHD ips touch screen and 5 hour+ battery life all for a decent price. I think I may be asking for too much but im hoping in a few weeks skylake can deliver something new that might fill my needs Any recommendations? Thanks in advanced (can we not start debating what constitutes a "mid spec GPU" is like the last thread I started did lol)
  11. I say mid spec because I was looking at anything with a 840m to a 960m (I know thats a big gap but the GPU isnt my biggest priority). The lenovo y50 uses the same crap 1080 panel & the 4k versions are considerable more expense locally and only available in last years model. Pretty much all the laptops mentioned by Shadowcaptain are $2.5k+ locally except the acer v nitro which is too heavy at 2.4kg+ & the Gigabyte is really flimsy & unreliable.... I think I may need to extend my budget.. Another laptop which has court my eye is the Asus ux303LB, 13" FHD touch, 940m, i5 5200U and only 1.45kg, I know ts a far way of the 15" 960m but all I really need is a good portable laptop for uni which can play casual games
  12. Looking for a good all round mid spec laptop for uni, I was looking at the Asus UX501 (same as G501 linus reviewed) but unfortunately here in Australia its only available with a terrible FHD TN panel which is a deal breaker. I want something relatively thin & light, a GTX 950m or 960m, good screen, build, 4+ hour battery life, SSD preferred. I dont know exactly how much that would translate to the US market but I would assume around $1.2k ($2k aus). Any recommendations? Thank also why no dedicated laptop section?
  13. Sweet thats what I was hoping to hear.
  14. Would having a 1050W PSU have any significant disadvantages being used in a system that barely requires half that? PSU in question is a Thermaltake Toughpower DPS G 1050 W (same OEM as corsair HX1000i), I only wanted a 750W but the 1050 was the only one available from my supplier, its not costing me any extra
  15. The 390 is the slightly better card but personally I still prefer the 970 for its efficiency. Here's a better comparison, keeping in mind prices vary in different markets
