  1. There is no specific DSP power. UAD uses DSPs to offload signal processing from CPU to DSP. Like you've said, it only makes sense when using a lot of plugin instances at the same time.
  2. Everything fine with the review, but I am curious about one thing. Metric system is being used in Canada, right? Then WHY is Linus speaking about 15" of distance between wall and the projector. I know that some measurements like screen diagonal are expressed in inches in most cases, but please, for standard measurements metric system should be used. Linus is not from the us US and LMG is Canadian company so please use metric system or both metric and imperial.
  3. It is interesting how what in the US is called "lobbying" in most cases everywhere else in the world it would be a school example of bribing and corruption. Interesting, indeed.
  4. They start to play Auld Lang Syne ~5-10min before closing time so the customers know that it is time to finish shopping. They also play it 5-10min before trade show closing time as well. Lots of things are connected with music in Japan. Eg. in the morning before work they usually play "radio taiso" - morning workout music. They also play melodies at 17:00 on PA systems every day all over the residential areas so the kids know that it is time to get back home. At some large companies they play "school bell" during the lunch break. Regarding the overwork, AFAIK even kids at schools during their summer, winter etc. break don't actually have any break. They get shit ton of homework to do during the "break" and usually they do that homework at school. So, break my ass. I would say that is one of the factors which promotes overwork culture. Also, lots of people are single and simply do not want to get married so all they have is their work. Some men don't want to marry just because they don't want to give most of their money to their wives. Eg. my Japanese friend's colleague has salary between $5000-$10000 at Japanese company and his wife allows him to have $300 (three hundred) per month for all of his personal needs. Finally, there is one other thing which is obvious if you have any real connection with Japanese culture is that everything that counts is being physically present. You know stories about sleeping during the meetings? It is fine because you are physically there. In some more traditional companies there is something that is not understandable for the westerners. It is that even if you work in a company for eg. 3 years and you do 10 times more than average worker there, the guy who worked there at the same position for 7 years playing solitaire for the whole time and doing almost nothing will have better salary than the better performing person and that person will be promoted sooner than better performing person just because the former person was physically more present than the other person. I have been told by some people that their Japanese supervisors were complaining because those people did not want to do non necessary overtime although they were more productive than the guys who would stay 3-4h more doing basically nothing.
  5. I am working for broadcasting devices and solutions development company and I would say that this is 99% correct but there is one small thing which bothers me. Encoders and decoders are not necessarily programs, they can be hardware devices as well. In the broadcasting industry you usually use encoder device when you have raw signal (eg. SDI) as an input and at the output you have eg. IP encapsulated TS (container used when broadcasting for TV, satellite etc.) with MPEG2/H264/HEVC video and eg. AAC audio. In that case companies usually use hardware based products because of the low encoding latency.
  6. Some songs are just timeless classics Got inspired to listen this after reading this:
  7. Exactly. You need something like this: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PS400
  8. (Active) DIs need phantom power to power up their internal circuit. They are not what you are looking for. Also, DIs are used to convert signal levels/impedance from unbalanced instrument level to balanced one.
  9. Only if Windows breaks. Setting up the whole environment is at least 2 days of work because I have rather specific setup so I am not fond of spending that much time without valid reason.
  10. Agree with Ryan. Eg. for Janis Joplin SM57 (~80 USD) was the microphone of choice. The best microphone really doesn't have to be 6000 USD Neumann one. If author has a chance I would suggest to go to a shop with demo units and find the best microphone for himself.
  11. Well, he got what he deserves. His daughter was his responsibility at the campus so he did shitty job in keeping his eye on her. Especially if he knows that she is social media attention w*ore. Yet if he didn't know, then he fails as a parent as well.

    USB or optical

Correctly implemented USB and optical connection with the same DAC in the circuit will sound the same. By saying correctly implemented USB, I am talking about device which will either have dedicated PSU with galvanic USB power isolation or with good power filter.
  13. New models are still overpriced but not as terrible as the old ones. The old ones sounded shitty for anything that doesn't rely on bass. Speaking about new models and the fashion, this is the best looking model that I've ever seen. Storage case is also neat
  14. Japan does the "shaming" old fashioned analog way: I've seen those marks at many train stations. Good job Japan and screw you SJW.
  15. I think that this video sums my thoughts about "shaming" On the other hand, I think that it would be a nice feature and they could just give on/off setting for it
  16. I was taking them with me in carry on luggage because they are sensitive devices and if they drop the suitcase there will be no issues with possible data lost.
  17. I've done that several times. Disassemble everything without case and put it into my suitcase (except HDDs). No problems.
  18. Actually the first time I heard about that band was when they've announced that Mr. Downie has incurable cancer about one year ago. I believe that what he did was the real rock star move. Although he knew that he will die, he continued entertaining people until the end. Just like Lemmy from Motorhead. Those people are rock stars unlike sh**heads like self proclaimed "the biggest rocksat of all time" Kanye. RIP Mr. Downie and keep on rocking in heaven
  19. DT770s and DT990s (pro models) are super easy for DIY repair and they are designed so the user can repair them by himself (because time is money especially if you are in the middle of recording). So, keep that in mind if they refuse your RMA.
  20. I've watched it last night on Japanese Netflix. So far so good I must say. My first impression is that it is lacking a geekiness which I personally don't mind but some people might.
  21. At home I either use syphon or Hario V60 filter to make it. It all depends which coffee beans do I have at the moment. I am also making cold brew coffee from time to time with cheap supermarket beans for use eg. before going to a gym to get the caffeine boost or when I am lazy to use previously mentioned methods. When I introduced coffee brewed by me to my colleagues they were telling me that it was way too strong. I like to use higher coffee to bean ratio because I want to taste the distinctive taste of the coffee (because I am buying single origin beans only). On the other hand, when going to a caffe outside my favourite is cappuccino. I am also really picky about cappuccinos and I have my rule for trying it from previously unvisited places - if it has La Marzocco, Victoria Arduino or Synesso espresso machine, I will try their coffee.
  22. Personally if I see that anime is about some high school student which is "the most suited for piloting a robot/receiving superpowers/etc" I will skip. Simply because 99% of those animes are THE SAME. The formula is: take a student(s), give him/her a superpower/huge robot, make them fighting villains. I still did not get why are they so obsessed with high school heroes. There are some exceptions of course. Eg. Sword art online (great and unusual story), Gundam (original one, main character mentally suffers because he was pushed into a war), Binan Kōkō Chikyū Bōei-bu LOVE! (mocking of the Sailor moon style animes with all male "sailor moons" and super ridiculous adversaries) etc. If the anime is unique, I will watch it. Eg. one punch man is great because it is mocking animes like DBZ where Goku needs 20 f****g episodes to finally use his new secret move and 10 more to execute it. OPM just uses a single punch and that's it. Also, I could not get why people are speaking about Death note as one of the best animes ever. I've was able to watch only 9 episodes before stopping watching it for good. I found it more believable that one will receive a death note now than that someone will be able to to get to him. The later the episodes went, the longer they seemed to me. Great idea but tooooooo long execution. Speaking of that, "watering down" the story is something that I really dislike about lots of anime. If something can be told in 10 episodes, don't make 20 (or 40 if we are talking about Dragon ball Z or Naruto). Simple as that. Currently I am not watching any of the anime series because I simply can not find anything interesting now. There are a lot of great anime movies thou and I prefer them over any series.
  23. He actually made several hyperloop videos and this one was focused on the test track mostly. No need to make several same videos. I just wanted to add some more thoughts on the rust. I agree that it is just test track and not the permanent one, however, they should at least hide imperfections which will be visible by general population (huge rusty pipe doesn't strike with confidence). Thunderfoot was also pointing details like paint over the gasket etc. but those are just small details which are not visible unless you are really looking for details and he was going a bit over the board with it, but the rust IS a problem.
  24. I would say that it is the mirror of what they (Hyperloop people) actually think of it. I even take a big care that my temporary prototypes when I do something look decent. I am not telling to make it 100% corrosion resistant but just to make it a bit decent.
