Then you need to contact your system administrator for activation problems. This key is for Windows 10 Home. There was no way you used the free upgrade to get Education.

What edition of 10 do you have? Hoem or Pro?

Here, use this key. YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7 it's a generic key and will only work on PCs that have upgraded to 10 before.

Microsoft made a UNIX subsystem for 7 Enterprise before but they deprecated and removed it in 8 and 8.1 respectively. This would be a neat feature for some, but I'd rather prefer they do it the other way - a Windows subsystem in a Linux distro.

Yes. Just install Windows 8.1 and it will activate. Just to make sure, did the laptop come with 8 or 8.1? Because that does make a difference... Also, please quote posts when replying to them. -

You can reinstall. The key is in a table in the UEFI and will be set automatically while installing Windows. You can even upgrade straight to 10
