Hey Guys! Been a while since I last posted, oops. As an update to my previous post a long while ago (Work and School = no play ) I was able to narrow down the info on my childhood laptop! As nice as it is too know the model, it was soo uncommon that I will likely never find another. I have a blurry photo that must have backed up from my ancient Samsung to Google (See Attached) when I was younger, and using that I was able to confirm the model! It was a Sylvania Synet51601x in Dark Blue !!! (Or for my abroad friends, a Foxconn SZ901P.) Unfortunately these were NOT popular in the US and are hard to find (I got mine new in box from a family friend back in the late 2000's as a Christmas gift). Although I own a few PC's now that would make this look like an oversized calculator, I have been searching for one and desperately want one back for nostalgia and modding purposes. (If anyone happens to come across one I would greatly appreciate the help!) What interesting stories do you have about your first laptop or desktop?

Been a long time since I posted anything on this forum, but I am in need of help! (Also, don't really know where else this would go?) I am looking for a very specific netbook from the XP Era as it has a sentimental history with me as it was my very first personal laptop. It is a Sylvania Meso SYNET582BK (I believe) in blue. Now I know what you're thinking: "Sylvania made laptops?!?!?!?" Yes, very bad ones . This laptop was given to me new as a surprise Christmas gift from a family friend when I was in middle school and it was my first experience with modifying and working with a PC. Unfortunately, it ended up getting stolen from my backpack while I was at school one day and I haven't seen it since. I looked up to see if there were any possibly for sale online but due to the nature of how obscure it was there is nearly nothing out there. If anyone here might know a guy who knows a guy I would love to purchase it off you! (Albeit cheaply cause I am now a broke college student lmao). And before you ask, I want this for a project I am working on, and to possibly turn it into a retro gaming laptop as I used to love playing RCT1 on it. Thanks in advance! Just a simple question: I am 17 and already own my own car. (Used of course) It's a Toyota Highlander 2002, which is great and I have 0 complaints on. But, I have been slowly getting into cars and see how amazing they are, and it has encouraged me to want a manual car to want to learn stick. Also, I wanted a car that was cheap, yet easily modifiable so that way I can get more into doing car mods, as I don't wish to touch my current car. Any suggestions are appreciated, and yes I know I am 17 and I should be saving money for college, I am, this is just something to mull over for a time.

Hello all, simple question. Would adding a router to my setup better my connection to game servers, as anytime I play, I notice that I have errors or dropped packets. Would a router remedy this? Currently I am jacked straight into a modem as an internet connection to my main pc. I have a modem/router combo that comcast provides that my family and I use for wifi, but it is in another room. SImply put, buy a router or is it another problem? Typical internet speeds: 100 mb/s Down 5 mb/s Up

I just wanted to know because I made a dedicated hackintosh drive, but it doesn't work right. It will boot, but after 30 ~ 60 seconds, the whole thing freezes. Does anyone have a decent way of doing a hackintosh that doesn't require another mac?

This is just a little showdown of my main pc's speed on 3 different types of connections. And why you should rethink powerline adapters *NOTE THAT THIS IS A CHEAP SET OF ADAPTERS I BOUGHT FOR 30 DOLLARS US! DO NOT EXPECT THE SAME PERFORMANCE AT YOUR HOUSE OR WITH ANOTHER SET! *Edit: I understand that this is not a comparison of what you should do, hence the mileage may vary note. But This was just a test to see what, in my case, works best. Provider: Xfinity/Comcast 1.A Powerline Adapter attached to a surge protector (Slowest) 2.A Powerline Adapter attached to a wall socket (Normal Use) *One I use daily due to router placement 3.And Straight ethernet cord to the modem/router (Fastest) Results: Not surprising, although I didn't know I had >100mb/s internet! Moral of the story: Use Ethernet where capable. Fun fact: This is a new router that I got just the other day.

Hello All, I was wondering if I could get some info on Heat Dissipation for a certain laptop. My old HP ENVY m6-1205dx is running very well, other than the fact that it overheats frequently. That was why I stopped using it a year ago. I just recently saw it sitting in my closet and thought that it may be of use. So, I redownloaded Windows 8 (Original OS) and reinstalled it, (Of course, the computer autoshutdown in between takes, but luckily no errors, but for some reason Windows update doesn't work properly, still fixing) The computer continued on it's path of Auto Shutdowns to preserve the cpu and graphics chip. So I found a simple fix online, lower the cpu power in AMD catalyst. And it worked. But, at a cost. Now, instead of the normal 2.3 GHz I used to run at, I am stuck at 1400 MHz ~ 1800 MHz total in order for the pc to run stable. I wanted to know if there was a better way to fix this laptop, (And YES I DID DUST IT OUT WITH COMPRESSED AIR!!!) Please let me know, I would like to try and squeeze as much performance out of this old PC as I can.

I tend to play alot of the newer games, and after playing the BF1 Beta it is clear to me how much I am lacking in terms of GPU power, not to mention the card is already showing signs of death, like artifacting.

This is just a simple question as a, "What should I get first type scenario." I am looking into upgrading my system into an LGA 1151 i5-6400 system from my current AM3+ FX-4300. But I also wanted to replace my graphics card. Going from an R7 260x to a GTX 1060 or RX 480 (Still debating, but leaning towards 1060 for power consumption). I know the 4300 will be a massive bottleneck, which it already pretty much is in this case, but I was wondering, should I upgrade core components first and have less of a bottleneck now/ pay more upfront? OR Buy the graphics card now and upgrade the system later after saving up some for potentially more (Maybe a 6600k or such?)

It would be great for my classic gaming room, where I don't have all to much space. I could hook up my Atari 2600! Albeit with a whole lotta adapters.

I was looking at an i5 6400 (Non k sku cause I don't overclock) and I am able to build a pretty decent system for around $303.96 (Before The RX 480) I cut all the unnecessary things like a case, psu and such. But I am thinking of getting a case + SSD cause my current case is, well, crap. What I want to know, is if my psu can handle everything under load.

I know that, I was kinda hoping to maybe get a decent skylake system but I am just trying to see what is available now.

My question is, would this be ok for my system, (If they ever fix it) for me to swap out my 360x for this new card, I don't wanna have to buy a whole new system.

I would say try re-installing your network drivers. Other than that, you should see if that malware got fully removed, cause if not that may be the case.

Hi all, I decided that this needed a thread cause I made it a year or 2 ago and still haven't put up a build log of it yet. This Machines name Is NEET because and I quote: " NEET is distinct social policy category from that of freeter, the classification for those working low-wage part-time jobs, although in practice thousands of young people move between these categories (i.e., from the status of non-employed young person to that of a part-time worker and back) each year. " Basically, this is an extremely budget oriented build (Well, sort of, see below for more). When I first built NEET machine, I used new as well as scavanged parts, such as the case and hard drive. The original purchase was this: (Bought on newegg 2 years ago:) - GA-78LMT-USB3 (AM3+) - 2x 4gb sticks of G.Skill DDR3 - An EVGA 500w PSU - And the AMD FX - 4300 Scavanged: Diablotek midtower (Crap) 1TB HDD from an old pc (Actually decent) Of course, not the best build, but I'm not rich, so it is and has been working fine. Then, when I wanted to join the PC Master Race in gaming, I decided that a Graphics Card was in order. So, I picked up an XFX R7 260x from Best Buy (Price Matched to a cheaper Newegg price) Overall, this PC came to around~ $350 USD Then this past year, I got a new mechanical keyboard and mouse, The Corsair Strafe RGB, and the Corsair Scimitar, Both excellent Now ~ $540 USD SO, in total, I spent (Disregarding the monitor/tv because it was a gift) around 540 to 550 USD on a decent build running in 1360x768. And soon, I hope to upgrade to the R9 480. (If Pictures are wanted, I will post)
