  1. Something I have just noticed on the images, you'll need to lower the slot in which your rear wireless antennae are, as that slot would be needed for any 2-Slot card (i.e. most GPUs). It's only a small job but I'd recommend lowering them to the 4th slot (Note: You'd only need to move the PCI-E Bracket, the card itself looks to be in an mSATA port and shouldn't be moved)
  2. First and foremost, PSU will die if you put any meaningful GPU into that system. You need a new one. Make sure to consult the PSU Tier List (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html - There is also an LTT one but I can't find it right now). Make sure to get a good quality unit from that list with at least 500W, preferably 600W for better efficiency (PC not as close to the limit of the unit under load). Other than the PSU though, the system should be capable of taking a new GPU no problem. You have an empty PCI-E 16x slot which is imperative, just make sure you don't buy a card too long for the case, and if you buy a water cooled card like an R9 Fury X, just make sure to check if you have a fan mount for the radiator, if not then choose something else or buy a new case.
  3. Just thought, if a Mod can help, should this be in Phones & Tablets or News?
  4. Every year, Apple announce a new iteration of the iPhone, and every year we always see something new on the device, for example last year we saw NVMe technology implemented into the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Next year, it looks like Apple will finally be moving away from LCD displays, instead opting for OLED on the iPhone 7S range of devices. According to Japanese outlet Nikkei (via KitGuru), Apple are calling on Samsung and LG to supply the displays, with the tech giant reportedly close to securing a $12 Billion deal with both companies for mass produced OLED displays. Personally I would've liked to have seen this sooner rather than later, but at least Apple are taking a step in the right direction. March 7th 2015 Update: Looks like more reports are surfacing about this, with cnet reporting the same information about the iPhone 7S, and also references a $12 Billion deal with Samsung and LG, citing 9to5Mac.com as its source on the matter. 5. PC Info: Name - Scrapyard Saviour CPU - Intel Core i7-3770KGPU - EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ (Have 2 in SLi, but test looks to only have been run with one. I have seen comments about SLI and doing that seems pointless)RAM - 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 Not bad at all I guess it shows older gen CPUs don't really matter too much (I also saw an i5-2500K in this thread somewhere which showed the same results)
  6. Preordering in general is becoming a little outdated. Back in the day, it was to ensure you got a copy, but now copies are available digitally, meaning unlimited copies are available. I just don't see the point in committing funds before release if I can pay the same on release day and get it at exactly the same time, once I've read a review or two to see how it is.
  7. I dunno, sometimes a bundle will come out, say $40 for Borderlands 2 and all DLC, yet the current cost of Borderlands 2 will also be $40. I don't see them giving the DLC away for free. If they started reducing the prices of individual products as well as bundles, then the bundles themselves would be pointless as you could just buy everything separate for the same price, i.e. no benefit gained from purchasing bundle
  8. I don't think this is the case, I imagine if there's a 5 game bundle and you have 2 games, you'll get 40% off the bundle price or something (obviously discount will be weighted towards more expensive games in a bundle, so if the bundle is Far Cry: Primal and 4 indie games, owning the indie games won't reduce the price by 80%). I could be wrong though
  9. So it's nearly Steam Sale time again (cue images of empty wallets, PCs with built-in cash vortexes etc), and a lot of the time I find myself to already have a couple of the games in a bundle, yet still purchasing the bundle to get the other games included. This would normally cost the same whether or not I already owned a couple of games in the bundle, not any more! Valve have announced that Bundles will discount in price if you already own a game in them, so if Borderlands 2 comes around on sale again with all the DLC and you only own the base game, discount for you!... or maybe not. Quoting the article: "Currently the system is only in place for a few bundles, and with an unclear future of when it could be rolled out to every bundle in their library, we just hope it’s done before the next Steam sale" You guys got any thoughts? Leave a comment Source: http://www.eteknix.com/steam-bundles-will-discounted-game-bundle EDIT: New information about this has come to light via Kit Guru. Apparently this system has not yet been announced by valve, but was discovered in an email. Source: http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/jon-martindale/steam-bundles-now-discount-titles-you-already-own/

    Very Silent Fans

PSU normally wouldn't cause loud fans. If they're noctuas and at low speeds they're loud RMA them as above.
  11. If you don't need the upgrade ASAP, stick around and see what new cards come out. Also make sure your PSU can handle SLI before buying a 2nd 770 (or any other 2 card setup) if that's what you eventually go with
  12. Ok so the Power Supply is the component in the PC that convers the 120v/240v AC power form the wall into 3v/5v/12v DC power. It is the most important component in a computer that is running a GPU for a number of reasons. What we need to know to suggest any further is what the Brand/Make and Model of your Power Supply is, and what wattage it is rated at (e.g. I have an XFX Pro Series Black Edition 1250w unit). The only way to check this in most cases is to take the side panel off of your computer and check. Dependant on that unit, we may be able to suggest a GPU. Sometimes (more often in pre-built systems), the unit is designed specifically for the configuration of the PC as sold, and adding a GPU can cause the PSU to fail, sometimes even catch fire, which is why I personally always check the PSU before recommending a GPU.
  13. Damn, sorry dude. If you contact rockstar support they might be able to confirm/deny whether there's a cloud copy but I don't think they do
  14. In Documents/Rockstar Games/GTA V/Profiles there is a folder with a unique string. To backup a profile, copy that to another location on your hard drive. To reload a profile, simply paste it back there. Note the directory is not where the game is installed (that's in program files usually), but where profiles and save games are kept.
  15. EA have this in every EA SPORTS title I can think of, and although it's much easier in Madden to spend less and still have a great team (The way it should be), in FIFA it's almost impossible.
  16. Hey Guys, So before christmas, my copy of GTA V developed an issue. It was just after the latest patch release, and my game was crashing with a "GTA V Has Stopped Working" Windows error, anywhere from 15-45 minutes from the launch of the game. Self-diagnosis determined a Memory Leak was occuring (High RAM usage, increasing size of pagefile seemingly alleviating the issue temporarily). Naturally, I contacted Rockstar Support who had me reinstall DirectX, C++ Dependencies etc (all valid fixes for lots of people) but nothing worked. After attempting all of the fixes given on the Reddit page "Better than Rockstar Support" besides reinstallation (see https://www.reddit.com/r/HalfOfAKebab/comments/3qbtm2/better_than_rockstar_support/), as well as over a month of correspondence with Rockstar Support themsleves, I had given up. Then, an unrelated issue caused me to reinstall Windows 10. I thought I'd try and play GTA V. During the reinstall, I backed up all of my games and saves onto my Mechanical drive, then removed it from the system (unplugged SATA cables) so that none of it would be removed during installation to my SSD (I know that normally, data on a drive separate to the installation drive wouldn't be lost anyway, but it pays to be safe with this stuff). Anyway, after the reinstall I launch GTA V. I didn't reload my profile, but thought I may as well see if it's fixed before reloading it. Anyway I play for a few hours and low and behold, no crashing. Success? Well I reloaded my old profile and game save. Same crash I've been plagued with for over a month occurs. I remove the profile, reloading the one I had created after the Windows install. It was the freaking profile. All along. And Rockstar couldn't diagnose this. Now I am currently searching for a fix that doesn't cause the loss of a save file, but at least this means I can play GTA Online again (GTA Online was crashing, and I think it was crashing because the story mode characters are loaded for switching). Anyway I just thought I'd post this, in the hope that the guy with the same issue who's been searching for a month or so for a fix, eventually has this flag up on Google. This was the Rockstar Social Club version of GTA V, however this fix may also work on the Steam version.
  17. A couple of weeks ago on WAN show, Linus and Luke covered a story where a kid had managed to rack up almost $8k worth of charges in FIFA 16, as seen here: https://youtu.be/k_tFt_X57Ik?t=6m30s Microsoft have now confirmed that they have refunded the $7,625.88 charged by the son, however, they also state that any charges that are made by a minor, to a parents credit or debit card, are considered valid under their service agreement. Microsoft also stated they encourage parents to use all of the features provided on the xbox one console to prevent this from happening again. As Linus was confused on the show, I thought I would explain how/why anybody would pay microtransactions on FIFA. As an ex-player of the Ultimate Team mode, I fell into EAs trap hundreds of times (using my own, earned money though, not my parents). In FIFA, there is a game mode called ultimate team, based on trading cards. The idea is you start with some low end (bronze) cards, and purchase packs using either in game currency (coins), or microtransactions (FIFA Points). Coins can be earned by playing games, either single games, cups or league seasons, with rewards given at the end of the Cups and Seasons depending on how well you performed. The problem for most people is that these leagues are 10 games long, and net you maybe 20,000 coins in a season - About 2-3 good packs, the equivalent of which costs about £5 (~$7) if bought for with FIFA Points. FIFA Points can cost anywhere from $.99 for 100, to $99.99 for 12,000 (10,000+2,000 free). These packs give you a chance to pull better players which you can then either sell on the auction house, or place into your team. There are also lots of promos, including Team Of The Week, where top performers in real life get higher rated cards in game. These cards are Limited Edition (7 days in packs only) so can be worth a small fortune. I won't go into team chemistry fully, but multiple players from the same league, team or nation, work better together in game. Many YouTubers encourage the purchase of packs, and pull lots of packs themselves. An example of this is a YouTuber/Twitch Streamer called Nick28T who spent nearly $10,000 on these packs in one week, during the recent Team Of The Year promo, where 11 players of super high value (millions of coins) were released into packs. Now I can honestly say, after playing this game for years (since the inception of Ultimate Team in 2009). Pulling these packs is addictive, and $8k of charges racked up in a month is, although slightly surprising, not something I believed could never happen. Would love to hear the thoughts of people in the comments. Should Microsoft have refunded this? Have you ever racked up more than you thought when playing a game with microtransactions? Have you (as a parent) ever used the features found on consoles for blocking the use or adding of a credit card? 18. UHD Blu Rays will be coming in around 7 weeks time, with a release date of March 1st. The Gadget Show (The publication based on the popular UK Tech TV show) have reported the recommended pricing of new and upcoming films to be sold on 4K discs as $43/£30. They name two films, Sicario, and The Last Witch Hunter, which I assume means these are 2 of the first batch of films to be released on the new format. Older films (They name Ender's Game and The Expendables 3) will cost around $23/£16, around the same price as a current blu ray film. There's not much to the article, but it's got me thinking. With new 4k discs to be nearly double the price of a standard blu ray on current releases, plus the not-exactly-cheap pricing of 4K Blu Ray players (A quick search on amazon prices them at about £115 in the UK), along with the need of some kind of 4K screen to even enjoy the benefits of 4K, how high will the adoption rate be of the general public? Personally, I have a 4k monitor for my PC (Samsung U28D590D), and I've been really looking forward to watching films in 4K, but the cost is pricing me out as of this present moment in time. How about you guys? Would love to hear how you will react to the release of 4K Blu Ray Films. Source: The Gadget Show (http://gadgetshow.channel5.com/news/ouch-uhd-blu-ray-discs-cost-small-fortune)
  19. Simple reason really: They don't want the business. They only want stuff that they can sell add-ons for. The one I worked at stocked a couple of ASUS ROG boards and CX PSUs, with the odd SSD and some GPUs up to a 960, and of course no CPUs. They're more interested in selling a piece of junk thrown together by HP, Lenovo, Acer etc and charge you extortinate amounts for aftercare, anti-virus, cloud services and to set it up for you. If time was of the essence, I'd pay it tbh.
  20. I always think of Maplin as that place you go to in emergency need of a SATA cable or something. I actually got most of the parts from my 1st system there, but only because I got a friends staff discount
  21. As I left they had started stocking some Corsair and Logitech stuff, but the only good (i.e. mechanical) keyboards were Razer yeah. Everything was all about add-ons, I mean it didn't matter how much the system you sold was, they didn't care, they only cared about the add-ons.
  22. Used to work in Currys myself. There are tech savvy guys in there, but the managers seem to think that having tech savvy guys selling tech is a bad thing, and instead have them selling fridge freezers and kettles. They don't want us to "confuse" customers with "jargon", but want us to sell insurance, setups, cloud services etc. in any way possible. There's a reason I left after just a few months. Back to the original question, everything in the UK seems to be online tbh, I know Game now have overclockers stock in some stores, but unless you find a great indy place, that's about it.
  23. Sorry dude, posting from my phone. Will update post now but might take a while.
  24. A 21 year old man from Berkshire, UK, has been arrested as part of the investigation into the hacking of kids toy company VTech Is it just me, or are we seeing companies being hacked almost on a daily basis nowadays? On a multitude of devices, using different OS's, with different types of user, in all parts of the world, "hacking" (by which I mean the breach of security software with the intention to steal data, personal or otherwise) is on the rise, and if more companies encrypted all of the data stored on their systems, we'd see less of it. In my opinion, the problem is the same as it has always been. Cost. Companies want to make products in a budget, and that's fine as long as they don't cut corners on, or overlook, security. Unfortunately, this is exactly what companies like VTech are doing. In my mind, until companies realise they need to spend a little more to avoid costly lawsuits in the future, the hacking of personal devices will continue to rise.
