  1. I checked with MSI, and it should be fine.. but I don't have the Quadro yet.. so I'm wondering if in the meantime, the intel graphics will work correctly in professional applications. Also, I can use nono-ecc memory with a xeon right?
  2. Mainly the sensor. Many components, like you said.. but the sensor is the big one.
  3. He asked about an EVGA and a PNY. I don't know why people insist on constantly telling people to go with options outside of what they asked advice on. Back plates don't help performance, they just look cool. And they do help the card sag less, but again.. not really a performance issue, mainly cosmetic. So if you want to spend an extra $20 on a back plate that looks cool, that's up to you. (and, I spent extra on a back plate, so I'm not hating on it lol, I'm just being honest.. it's like spending more on a black pcb).
  4. Wow.. the responses in here are insane lol. PNY is an Nvidia partner, who makes reference designs. They're the only manufacture I know who is allowed to make Quadro cards. The PNY is just fine, and even better if you plan on SLI in the future, or if you have bad airflow in your case due to the blower fan. Non-reference designs are not inherently better. They can be better, and they often are better, but not inherently. It depends on the situation. If you're worried about the performance of one mid-high end card, the reference is honestly just fine, and the difference between the EVGA is going to be negligible.
  5. Hey, I'm wondering if anyone can give me some insight. I'm building a new rig. I don't game much, but if anything I'll play cs:go maybe. The rig is going to be for video editing, and more importantly 3d modeling. It's more of a workstation hybrid. So, I'm going with the 1246v3 because it gives me hyper threading for the same price as a 4690k and I lose overclocking, but gain intel p4600 graphics. Intel says that in order to support p4600 graphics workstation application optimizations you need to be on the c226 chipset. I already bought a z97 motherboard before deciding to go with the xeon, so will this affect my performance in applications like autodesk inventor, or adobe creative suite? Does this change if my discreet gpu is a quadro k4200? I don't care about overclocking too much, and I can probably get an extra 5% out of base clock anyway, but the hyperthreading is a big deal. The only motherboards available for c226 are an expensive Asus WS, a pretty good Asrock board, or supermicro stuff.. which is ugly, but amazing quality. I'd rather stick with my z97 board, but I want to know what "workstation application optimizations" means exactly.. I can't find anything specific on which certifications they have on intel's website. Thanks guys.. any help would be appreciated.
  6. But if I won, I would try to talk to Linus about it. I'd want to ask him, "If I refuse it, will you just give it to the next person?" "can you just keep it and say you gave it to me?" Or maybe give me a different type of prize? Maybe a graphics card or something. If I talked to him and he said it's really ok, he's ok with giving it away, then maybe I could accept it, but I don't know. I'd really want to know how he honestly feels about it.
  7. This will be a long post, so tread lightly; these are my opinions. When I saw Linus say he was going to give away his rig I swear I thought he was going to cry. I don't think he wants to; I think it's a calculated decision because he's so unsure of how his fanbase will react and he just wants support in the transition. The first thing I did when I saw that video was tweet Linus to say, "LINUS NO, don't give away your rig!" For those that don't understand, Linus' wife gave him the case. He said in a video that it was the first "big ticket" item she bought him. If I remember correctly, around the time Linus bought himself his T-Virus reservior he was going to put it in a Corsair 800D. I don't know if that was going to be his rig, but I assume he wanted the TJ-07 but couldn't bring himself to spend the $350 it costs. So, his girlfriend at the time must have known how much he wanted it and bought it for him, because after that video I never saw the 800D again. Maybe it was actually for another build, but whatever. The bottom line is it was a very personal gift from his now wife, and he spend well over $1000 upgrading, painting, chemical bath stripping, re-powder coating, etc. that damn TJ-07. There's a reason that the TJ-07 is what they use for MurderBox rigs.. it's gorgeous. So it's not about the money. It's about the hours and hours he spent building in that rig. As far as Vessel goes. Reading through the cesspool of youtube comments is infuriating. Do half of the people watch these videos on mute? Nothing is changing as far as YouTube free content. Shows and hardware releases will be accommodated. Aside from that no one would even notice a change if Linus didn't tell them about it. If he didn't say anything on Youtube or the WAN show no one would have ever even noticed. I wish people would pay attention. He said it like a dozen times just to reassure everyone. I see a lot of comments about "Vessel sucks". So don't watch it. Go sign up if you want to support Linus, but shut up about it. Holy balls. Lastly. This change is a big deal to Linus, but not us. It's honestly not a big deal to any of us; our lives are not changed. Our Linus addiction will still get it's daily fix. Linus is obviously having a rough time making this decision, but I don't know why his "fans" have to be such crybabies. I also don't understand why Linus needs seven employees, and maybe that's part of the problem but I don't know what goes on there. They're obviously very busy, but he could save about $100,000 a year by having four employees instead of seven. Linus, Edzyl to edit, Brandon to camera, Slick for benchmarks, shows, builds, etc. Another four guys might help them, but it hasn't increased the number of videos put out. The quality has improved but I don't know if it justifies the tens of thousands of dollars it cost. Anyway, that's not my business, I just really don't understand. And I'm not a kid or an idiot. I'm 29, I work for a business that has 5 employees and makes $5 million a year; so I'm not just naive and have no real world experience. I just think it's not bright if you're going to have to worry about your revenue source not cutting it. Just my thoughts.

  9. Ok, it says I need a 5 ohm resistor. I found 10 ohm resistors, which should be fine. But do I need to wire it a certain way.. does the switch need to go on the ground wire? or both?
  10. I know almost nothing about electrical wiring. But my idea is to put a 5mm led above my IO shield in the rear of my new case (phanteks enthoo pro) like nzxt has been doing on some of their cases. I think the io light is a cool idea. A white led I found is 3.2 volts, 20mA. Sata power has a 3.3 wire. Can I run just the 3.3v and ground to the led with an on/off switch? I guess I would need a 5 ohm resistor, which I found on radioshack.com. Here's a really terrible drawing I made to demonstrate. Can anyone let me know if I'm on the right track?
  11. My main concern is upgradability. I'm just going to start with a single SSD for boot/applications and a 1tb hdd for file storage. When I get close to filling the storage drive (and some time passes since I spent almost $2,000 on a new pc) I'll re-visit the raid idea. Then I could just buy 4 WD red drives and run raid 5. Or raid 1 if I get big enough drives. I'm not going to buy a raid controller, and from what I hear Raid 5 parity is real slow on motherboard built in raid. Anyway, thanks for the advice.
  12. Ok, thanks for the help. I'll just start off with a non-raid setup. I can always buy a couple drives later on and create a raid array for redundancy.
  13. Well I was thinking Raid 0 but if one drive fails, both fail so I'm just a little worried about that. With JBOD I thought it was just writing to them as they fill, and using the same drive letter.

  15. bitfenix fans.. bitspower fittings... its just too typical for me. my opinion of a beautiful build...
