  1. well i just upgraded my rift S to a quest 2 and my 1080ti to a 3080ti i play high demanding stuff like sim racing with supersampling and stuff and the 3080ti is an absolute beast but the upgrade from a 3060 to a 3070 isnt worth it if you cant at least swing for a 3080 i'd wait.

according to stockx.ca ,this card was retail priced at $1,200 ,so it's pretty close to retail right now on newegg (but maybe not original msrp)

gaming z is the oc version, more oc-ed than gaming x. i think it's a good card.

but if i were you, and if i could wait, then i would wait, until june when eth2 starts (it's still scheduled for june), or maybe may, just before june, and i think we will see waves of gpu price drop.

    here:

unless something happens between now and ethereum pos, but i would just try and wait it out.

hey, 6800 and 6900 are just as good, and you get more vram, but of course, if dlss and ray tracing is your thing, then maybe the green team.

but i think 16g vram is more useful in the long run. imo

yeah no AMD, definitely ray-tracing priority it's the future we are already seeing it i play a lot of new titles and there are always stuff i can't turn on and i can't use the Ai supersampling thingy they have going on...and the games no longer look as nice IMHO in normal rasterization i think many devs are cutting corner now since the games are getting rendered in ray-traced reflections and shadows so why bother making it look supreme nice for the 1080ti you know what i mean...they make it look ''OKAY'' in rasterization and GORGEOUS in ray-tracing...

Also, AMD in canada right now just as expensive as nvidia for the same level of rasterize performance, but you get better ray-tracing and drivers with nvidia...at least when it comes to ''game launch'' drivers and since i tend to download and play my games in the month after they come out (not 12 months later) then nvidia is best they are more on point IMHO.

For me to go AMD it would have to be much cheaper than nvidia like it used to be...say i could get the top dog AMD card for the price of a basic RTX 3080 then i might consider it but other than that no...and VR it's even worse the support is ALL on nvidia the studios ALL use nvidia provided assets, techniques and technologies to produce and test the content...

here in canada, gpu prices have certainly dropped quite a bit. and their in-store availability has been incredible. so, i guess good news for you.

im really considering this card, it's priced really well and it's exactly the model i'd want...but i don't know when the next gen cards are coming out and this card might very well sell for 799$ just 3 months from now...😬

on the other hand i have the box and everything my current 1080ti gaming X trio is pristine and could probably fetch 720$CAD online or something locally...

NOW TECH IS GETTING INTERESTING AGAIN!!! YÉÉÉÉÉ

So is there much worth playing in VR these days or is porn still the only killer app?

there are some great titles now but i don't play them i mostly use mine for sim racing, which is absolutely awesome.

  5. i have a 1080ti with a rift S and i tend to play newer games and most of them now have raytracing and stuff and now that prices and availabiltly are there my 1080ti is going out soon for sure i want a new higher resolution vr headset at the same time too to really do a step up...1080ti is playing well games at 1440p but can't play the newest AAA titles like there' mean't to be seen so fack that...

  6. i remember my 4770K i would run at 4.2ghz on all threads with 1.19v on a Z87-G45 msi gaming board...

a good starting point if you don't need all the performance would be to further lower the clock to say 3.5ghz and test with like 1.1v and test for stability, at this point the CPU should already be pulling much less power than stock settings, heck even my 4.2ghz OC was pulling about the same or less than stock. i believe if i'm not mistaken the default voltage on my cpu core with default settings would be around 1.28v in Hwinfo64..which obviously was way too much.

  7. @SquiddyButler

personally, 2560x1440p high refresh (even 120hz would do fine for me) at 27'' is where it's at for a good desktop sitting pancake gaming experience.

i would go with 3440x1440p high refresh ultra wide at this point tho, personally. 1080p was nice 7 years ago...and 4K is useless for a monitor this size.

    EDIT: something like this:

If over budget, something like that similar specs but 2560x1440 can be found easily around 300$

IMO that's a decent price. It's just a bit more than I paid this past summer for my second S9, though mine has some screen burn.

And it's a good phone? No issues with it? Can it still play games well and stuff? No hardware problems other than the sun burn? Thanks for your comment btw 😊

  9. Hey guys...I don't know much about phones but I'm looking at buying a galaxy s9 that was bought new in January 2019...the phone is like new, no scratches or anything and come with a case charge etc and the price is 280$CAD is it a good deal? The phone is on Android 10.

Let me know if you need more info. Just looking to be sure I'm not making a mistake.

    Thanks

I'm just generally asking this because i really cringe when i hear my fans striving to cool down my GPU and then i feel like i cant play for longer periods of time. So i'm asking you guys again for any tips/experience you have. My GPU is a 1660S From Gainward (GHOST OC; not OC'ed).

    Thank you in advance!

Yes, download MSI afterburner and lower your power limit to say 94 or 96% and increase your core clock a little bit...test for stability...it's like overclocking, you want to get similar performance to what you have right now while reducing power consumption (heat)

Also you can try to set a fan curve manually in afterburner...to get something you can live with better.

Also case airflow and dust...make sure this is good.

Does this mean there's no overclocking headroom at all? And if there is some headroom, how, when it's already at its max power draw? (provided the GPU-Z numbers are even correct)

Its possible that you can't feed the card more power...but that doesn't mean you can't increase your GPU and memory clock speeds and get more performance.

I've done extensive testing of VRAM utilization, and what I found is that no game currently on the market will use more than about 9GB VRAM at 4K max details.

You should test with a VR headset tho 😉

That said, you are right about pancake games, none of them require more than even 8GB at 4K to run well.

Also pancake games should be rendered on a high refresh 1440p desktop monitor for best results anyways.

    A lot of ASRock's Z490 boards failed (e.g. VRM exceeds 105*C+, VRM and/or CPU thermal throttles) .

The Gigabyte Z490M (or what is the Z490 UD) was another board with throttling VRMs.

EDIT: Ahh... I remember Hardware (Hammer) Unboxed did some budget Z490 testing..

wow Asrock boards this time around...LLC lvl 1 only too and already it's pushing it...dang.

Could very likely just edit some stuff in the bios and make it run 4500mhz no problem tho i reckon...stock probably pulls way more than it needs.

  14. i would manually lower the voltages and test slowly until you find the sweet spot for the CPU...

it's usually best to run 100mhz or 200mhz bellow the max clock your CPU could achieve but use much less voltages...that's what i,ve always done.

For example my cpu COULD do 5.0ghz no problem but we're talking north of 1.32v and it gets quite hot for absolutely no worthy performance gains to speak of.
