So how bad is the RTX 2080?

How impressive is the RTX 2080ti...

Don't be foooled by reviews...here is what a non blower, a good 1080ti can do for you :)

This had the card running from 1987mhz to 2025mhz throughout the benchmark, memory at 11 520mhz

That doesn't mean the 2080 is bad.

  2. i_build_nanosuits

    i_build_nanosuits

no, but it means for the price it's fucking horrible...i paid 700$CAD (541$USD) for my card and it was used for 2 months before i got it.

How much is a good RTX 2080 you say?

  3. dizmo

    dizmo

About the same price as a 1080Ti new.

You fail to factor in the much larger die size, and the increase in memory costs. Like everyone else.

You should really think it through.

  4. i_build_nanosuits

    i_build_nanosuits

@dizmo yeah i forgot about the bigger die size which will probably consume more power if it start using those tensor cores and stuff someday...and i also forgot about it only having 8GB of memory instead of 11...really, doesn't make sense :o

    Also, this :P

The memory costs 30% more. It adds up.

  6. i_build_nanosuits

    i_build_nanosuits

@dizmo yes, it adds up...but if the performance doesn't add up...we're loosing :|

    @dizmo true the 30% price hike on memory, but $1100 ~ $1200 CAD for a RTX 2080? $1700 CAD for a RTX 2080 Ti??!

    i_build_nanosuits

@-rascal-exactly, i had full intentions of buying at 2080ti for christmas, but when i saw the prices...it's not bad when nvidia said 999$ on stage...then it became 1200$...then most models were like 1279$, and then convert to canadian rupees...the card i would really want (because when you pay that much you don't want the cheapo gigabyte models or some shit) turned out to be priced at 1699$...add GST to that, and maybe shipping...will end up costing closer to 1800$CAD xD

As much as i love nvidia, and my gaming...there's just no way. Especially now that we know how the cards underperform. I get that there is a good portion of the GPU that isn't used yet, and that is another HUGE problem with them...how well, and how fast will this gets put to good use.

i mean, gaming consoles which is still a huge part in this because the vast majority of games today are still designed for these consoles, that's were a good chunk of the money is, and they support none of this...and only 2 cards support it and it will be like that likely for at least another year or two...how many game developers will be willing to implement this into their games if 99.99% of the buyers aren't equiped to run it...cause let's face it, with such crazy prices not that many of these cards will sell IMHO.

Superposition isn't a good benchmark to go by, a 980ti beats a 1080 soundly in that benchmark.

  10. i_build_nanosuits

    i_build_nanosuits

@App4that Maybe...but still in the reviews they have the RTX 2080 performing better thant 1080ti in that benchmark...so that shows how bad the 1080ti they used for testing in the reviews was underperforming...right? i think that makes sense at least.

  11. App4that

    App4that

Nah, it's the benchmark. Why I personally ignore synthetics.

Gamer's Nexus has their review for the RTX 2080 FE up.

Basically the GTX 1080 Ti in performance; even the 0.1% are within +/- 3 FPS -- in some cases, exactly the same.

"Conclusion: Is the RTX 2080 Worth It? No -- not yet."

@App4that well i would love to test with games but i don't have the same test bench they used and my CPU is holding me back in many games at 1440p...that said, the closest i can get you to that is this review here...fortunately Paul's hardware ran his testing with a ASUS STRIX 1080ti and not a shit ass blower card...and the results are more in line to what you should expect, here the 1080ti overall when all things are done is 5% faster than 2080...it's a good video you should watch it:

@i_build_nanosuits A better comparison would be when they started using rasterization compared to the older method of rendering, and the price increase that generation of cards saw. Comparing last gen to what we have now just doesn't make much sense, as they're trying to push completely new architecture. Which will, of course, come at additional cost, as well as the increased cost of memory. You're basically paying the same amount of money for similar performance with the 2080, and if you want more performance than that, you can pay more. They're top tier cards. It's unfortunate, but sometimes there's a cost for trying to push technology forward.

@-rascal- They make cheaper cards. Either way they're getting their money, so they don't really care what you're buying. Especially since they have way too many last gen cores anyway. Of course nothing supports it, it's still relatively new. There's always an early adopter tax. These are all things people should have been expecting.

@dizmoi think they could have got some raytracing action going on, but honestly i think it will hurt them even more...seing a top tier 1200$US+ card drop in the 45 to 50FPS range at 1080p is not going to help them sell more cards.

    dizmo

Yeah, but to expect excellence in the first release of a new technology is asking a little much. It's a completely different way to render a game. Give it time.
