Couldn't Wendel be considered one of the "Linux crowd". Although he hasn't got one I have always considered him a bit of a neckbeard.

Shouldn't it be Microsoft, it is a proper noun and proper nouns should start with an uppercase letter. Wasn't it the Linux crowd that started all the M$ stuff?

    Pc

@ Famolas Use the thing .
  7. Back up the stuff you need to keep and do a new install of Linux nuking everything
  8. An ISO is just a sector by sector copy of a disk within a single file. Normal CDs can contain multiple files yet do NOT have a file system so are NOT ISOs. Chapter and verse on Wikipedia probably
  9. Why not? Surely a good quality 450 will be better suited than a run of the mill 600. Remember total power required is 295 Watts
  10. Are you sure those screws are meant to be removed (by a layman) ? Can't really see what they are, using various bits and trying to turn them hasn't helped. Although the same screw in mirror positions :- 1st photo looks like a screwed up head that you have tried jamming various bits in and hence screwed the head. 2nd photo it makes it look like some sort of lobed head (torx, tri lobe or similar) Might be allens (hex sided)(if meant to be easily removable ). Might be one of the many security bits which include everything from squares to tri lobes Have a proper look with a torch and Magnifying glass see how many facets might tell you what you need or you could do the look and post the number of sides . At least looks like there is no sort of pin in the screw so security bits with holes , seem to be, out of the question.
  11. $125 is not really much at all, certainly not enough to use new components It is very much what you can find on/in Craigslist/dumpsters/eBay/Charity shops (we [Scotland] also have a charity called 'PassITon" that deals in cheap second hand parts same idea as the Freegeek of Linus' videos. Sure there will be something similar in your area) etc etc http://www.passitoncomputers.co.uk/sales.html Even dirty components and those which have small faults can be cleaned/repaired but you have to be willing to go "ah I can't get that component to work I'll chuck it and get another one" . He is Australian so the price is probably quoted in Aus$
  12. Hence the " If you know what you are looking for " bit so you will not (or shouldn't) be swayed by the marketing bumf. Do your research first and do not listen to the salesman's "great machine that got one myself". How I see ALL salesman at Electrical stores (OK it is incredibly dated but they still operate like this) :-
  13. Pre builts in a nut shell. How bad(relatively) the PCs are is not really Currys/PCworlds fault, it is more the choices the manufacturers make at those price points.
  14. Currys/PC world do not build their own they only act as sellers for Lenovo, HP, Acer, Asus etc etc If you know what you are looking for where you actually buy the PC is pretty moot (it all hinges on price/customer service/value adds). Not bought a pre-built in years[1]so I couldn't say which company has a good rep for systems, also unable to tell you good retailers local to you as I am in Scotand not London, but still not as far as North America. [1] Sort of told a lie there No2 son (23 so autonomous but still at home) got a Lenovo all in one from John Lewis, maybe because they are a co-op rather than a business their service seemed first rate. Has been one problem, JL checked it wasn't something obvious and had unit sent to Lenovo for the actual fix.
  15. Well I just went on to the NCIX website and shipping of a PC ( with no KB,mouse or monitor) was in the $200 region then you have insurance (if taken)and taxes (if paid) on top of that, a bit more than $40 .
  16. You really think shipping something the size and weight of a PC from Canada to the UK will only be $40 ?
  17. Shipping is NOT free, from Canada to the UK is likely to be extortionate
  18. He's in LONDON the shipping would crucify him. To the OP google " pre built PC's London " 33million results. You are unlikely to get recommendations from here of pre-builts the vast majority here build their own. Or have reaserched/assembled the parts and had a freind build it
  19. No2 son was on a ventilator when he was first born (nine months ventilated 14 months in SCBU) the oxygen pressures and concentrations they had to use made Oxygen's poisonous nature significant (there is a reason DEEP divers breathe a mixture of gases with a much higher percentage of helium, than there is in air at STP).
  20. Was just thinking that about The hamster dance. Banana phone. etc etc etc
  21. Nor are gsm antennas (possibly), It might any one of one million (<slight hyperbole there) differences between those locations, if the ONLY difeerence was the antennas then you could say they were the cause else you can just say they MIGHT be the cause.
  22. Have you looked at Dihydrogen monoxide sites lately. http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html
  23. Hold on I'll just get my crystal ball, sh1t just realised seeing the future isn't real. i7 More indicates the relative level of a processor so I think they will stick with the i3, i5 ,i7 nomenclature and just up the generation/technology (sandy bridge, Kaby lake etc)
  24. Population level is frightening isn't it. 3 million years to reach 1 billion, 200 years more to reach 7 billion. and with better health care 9 billion by 2050. How are we going to feed everyone? I would hazard that even 4billion is FAR too many, 1 or a half Mmmm, but 4?.
