  1. I opened a ticket with Corsair on it, hoping to RMA it. Since the sound is new, I don't trust it! :) But they're closed for a 4 day weekend for the US 4th of July, so it'll prolly be Monday before I hear back. I'm keeping a very close on CPU temps via my Nexus 7 until then.
  2. I suppose it could be described as a grinding sound, but a plastic-y grinding sound, not a metallic grinding sound.
  3. For the past week, the pump on my Corsair H100 has been making a terrible noise. At first I thought it was one of the fans, but the sound is clearly coming from the pump (using a sound meter, the noise is greatest next to the pump). To be certain, I unplugged each fan in my system one at a time. The sound is definitely coming from my H100. Despite the sound, it's still keeping my i7-3770K idling at 30 C and doesn't ever really jump higher than 40 C. Does this rattling noise (don't know how else to describe it) indicate that the pump is failing or is it just noisy all of a sudden? I've had it 17 months.
  4. Since the motherboard is currently in an anti-static bag in the box, removing the motherboard isn't an issue. :) And if there's enough clearance, then I suppose this is now an non-issue, eh? Though now that I've looked closer, there is the Noctua NH-L12 that does not require a backplate. So it looks like I have a solution!
  5. I'm probably incorrect on this, but don't all of the Noctua coolers require backplates?
  6. I am putting together a Windows Home Server using parts I have just laying around. Since it will be running 24/7, I want to use something other than the stock cooler that came with the processor (an old i7-930). The problem I'm running into is the old Antec P180 case I have does not have a CPU backplate cutout, so I can't accommodate a cooler that has much of a backplate, if any at all (the only space behind the MoBo would be what is provided by the standoffs). I don't have the tools to cut the case to create the cutout (well, I have a Dremel, but I don't have any of the metal cutting wheels). Also, the case itself doesn't have a ton of room for a massive cooler though there is space for something bigger than the stock cooler. So I'm looking for suggestions. I want a very quiet CPU cooler that I can fit in this case. Which CPU cooler(s) would you suggest for this?
  7. Didn't work for me in Chrome on my desktop or laptop. Do you have a plug-in that enables that functionality?
  8. So three examples to counter the "they made the choice to be there" argument. Names have been changed for the first two. Alex is one of the guys you see standing shirtless outside of Abercrombie. Employment can be tough for college students in our area, he likes the brand, so he applied for a job. He was hired, and excited about it, until they told him what he'd be doing. He hates it, yet he stands out front, looking hot (because he is), smiling and flirting (and also being part of the store's loss prevention program) because it's his job. He is paying his way through med school. He is constantly looking for any other job that provides flexibility in scheduling around his classes. Katie can be found as a model at local boat shows (we're home to the Bass Pro Shops HQ, we have lots of boat shows). She shows up, does her job (and also looks quite hot doing it) and when she gets home, I usually have to go over and calm her down because she's in tears. Why does she do it? Her husband left her three years ago when their son was born with Down's Syndrome. He wanted neither the personal or financial responsibility of raising a special needs child. He fled the country so she receives no child support. Her parents disowned her because she married a man of a different skin color. She does what she has to in order to provide for her son. And then there's me. I ran a webcam years ago when I was in college. Again, in this town, it was very difficult to find work that would be flexible with my school schedule (theology degree, there's a great combination). I was approached by someone who operated an "adult" webcam site and I became one of their "models." I hated it. At least for me I didn't have to see any of the people staring at me (though I was required to chat with them). But it paid the bills. I was able to stay in school and also eat and have a roof over my head. I only stayed at it for four months until I, thankfully, found a decent paying job elsewhere. So just because someone is there by choice doesn't mean they necessarily want to be, that they necessarily enjoy the attention, or that they would want videos of themselves shared at random websites. Yeah, sex sells, but does that mean we have to actively encourage the objectification of either gender? Especially on a tech centered site? That is not the type of community I would be comfortable referring people to, nor is it one I would want to remain a part of.
  9. It's ok, because I have my Pink Card, which is far more important to me. If having a "man-card" means I have to demean women, then I don't want it.
  10. I'm gay, and I still don't want that here. I know where to find eye candy if I want it. And I don't want it here.
  11. I voted no. It's degrading to women and offensive. If it were your wife, your girlfriend, your sister, you wouldn't want a bunch of geeks ogling. If you need to see boobs, there are more than enough already on the web. I could not, in good faith, refer anyone to LTT forums or videos any longer if that type of thing occurs. It's just... ug. It's tough to be a male feminist at times.
  12. Following up, they won't change their strategy, but after Sony's presentation, Microsoft may want to look into this: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_burn_centers_in_the_United_States :)
  13. They will "remain convinced" that their "marketing strategy" is "appealing to gamers" until they take a beating in holiday sales. Massive companies just do not understand consumers. They think they do. Another E3 announcement points to this. EA began to address Origin shortcomings but then stated they feel Origin is successful based on the number of installs. Well, when you make games that require Origin then you should realize that installs aren't really a measure of success, it's just a measure of how willing consumers are to become sheeple just to play a game. Sure, EA isn't Microsoft, but nearly all of the big names in tech seem to consistently misread consumers. I worked for HP for a few years and they pull this non-sense, too. I don't know if market research companies are just unwilling to tell these companies the truth for fear or losing future contracts or what, but it's clear to me that what consumers are saying is often ignored or completely misinterpreted. It would be humorous if it didn't bring so many bad products, pricing schemes and policies to our homes.
  14. Considering that I ran a webcam 24/7 when I was in college, no, devices with webcams don't bother me. I figure it's all already out there somewhere on the interwebz anyway.
  15. Oh, I've shared the videos, and the link to the main giveaway thread. Once the whole event is on a single playlist, I plan on sharing the entire playlist. I've watched them all at least three times (definitely not for the girls, though; the objectification of women is terribly offensive and I'm sure everyone here is above such small-minded behavior :) ). I'd like to win, sure, but I'm going to keep promoting the vids (without being spammy) to increase the chances of a really great prize for whoever does win!
