  1. Please read things ive tried carefully before replying to this post, thank you <3 What is the problem: My hp prodesk 705 g2 sff wont post after i installed an m.2 nvme ssd attached to a pcie card and went into the boot menu and chose "normal boot" while the pc had no windows on it (probably doesnt matter what i did in the boot menu but this is an oem so who knows). The pc hasnt posted at all since. Fans spin (not super fast), lights come on on the motherboard and ssd card. No signal on screen no USB power to peripherals. What i have tried: New ram, other ram slots, reseating cpu, removing and readding hard drives and ssd, removing all power connectors and putting them back in, a graphics card (pc normally has integrated gpu from amd a10 8750), swapping screens, resetting cmos several times and once leaving it without the battery for hours, powering without cmos battery, powering without cpu and/or ram (mobo gives the beeps for error codes about ram and cpu missing but nothing comes up on screen), removed cpu fan and cooler. I do not have a separate hp psu or motherboard laying around but is there a world where neither of those are broken on my machine??? No visible damage and i didnt shock or stab anything when installing the pcie card with its ssd.
  2. this is entirely not good is it? this is the reason the adjacent caps were quite hot. i dont know what this part is but its dead im pretty sure... well unless anyone knows what to do from here... R.I.P.
  3. Alright I just tested the card again without the power connector with the asrock p67 extreme6 and xfx 550 watt and after some time of trying to get a picture of any kind on the screen, i started to smell burning at this point i decided to flip the psu off and luckily no damage seems to be done to it. the card does smell quite bad and a quick touch test revealed that some caps got extremely hot. any idea on why this could be??? taking apart the card now to see if theres damage.
  4. I am absolutely 110% sure that i am connecting the correct cable. I will try and have a look closer but yesterday there appeared some gunk for the lack of a better word on and next to a little chip on the board. It didnt seem burnt and i cleaned it off with alcohol (attached picture). This stuff wasnt near the power connectors however so i didnt think it could be the culprit. nothing seemed to be wrong next to the pcie connector but i will update you if i see something in closer inspection. Thank you for your reply.
  5. So basically what the computer does when i try to start it with the pcie connector plugged in is that the power light turns on but nothing happens, no fans spinning anywhere, hard drive not starting. Only power led comes on. When the 6 pin pcie connector isnt plugged in the computer starts as normal and demands me to connect the pcie connector. I'm suspecting a short, but how would i fix this and at what point might the short be happening? I have tried the gpu in question with multiple psu:s and motherboards. system specs (if it matters): ASUS GTX 660 2GB (the smallest one) fujitsu lga775 motherboard q9400 stock clocks and voltages 500gb hdd 8 gigs of samsung ddr3 1333mhz 300 watt liteon psu also tested with: asrock p67 extreme6 board and an xfx550 watt psu acer h61 board and 650 watt psu asus z170 pro gaming and corsair rmx750w psu (same results with everything)
  6. Ok i ended up ripping new usb ports off a dead motherboard and got them soldered up. the old firewire port appears to work (for now) after cleaning it with brake cleaner. and audio ports were taken off an extender thingy. Problem solved
  7. This was what i was looking at but at that point why use a ruined case when i could buy another old style case for 10€? I really want to save this one and make it like new.
  8. So i recently bought an old TT armor+ lcs case and some of the front io was absolutely destroyed. The usb (2.0) and ieee ports were completely mangled and i doubt the headphone and microphone jacks work either. I took them out and decided i would replace them but as it turns out the whole thing is absolutely buried in hot glue and soft plastic and its completely impossible to get to detach the broken ports and solder new ones in. So far i havent had any luck locating new front io for this case (shocker for like a 12 year old case). So im asking help to find me something i can replace it with. I personally found the old Silverstone fp32b which has all the ports i would need but theyre in the wrong order so i dont know if i can take them out and attach them to the cases front panel. Also i am not willing to pay like 50€ to get one of these things shipped to me just to TRY to open it and detach the ports. If you happen to have one of these by some miracle aswell please let me know if it can be opened and the ports removed individually. TLDR: I have a TT armor+ and i need new front panel io, if you have leads please let me know. picture of what i need at the bottom Also i dont spend a whole lot of time on these sites so if this thread is in the wrong place please move it.
  9. The port shares the connector with the other port on the front. The usb sticks all seem relatively similar but could it be that the verbatim stick is usb3 and the others usb2? i dont know how that would be relevant to my phone charging though... the usb stick that WORKS works completely normally without any issues, and the apple watch charger charges at the normal rate. anything else doesnt work, charge, or show up in my computer.
  10. So I've had this problem for a while now: The right side usb3.0 port on my 460x case only works properly on my 32gb verbatim usb stick and nothing else is recognized. Not a mouse, keyboard, OTHER usb stick (tried multiple), and my phone doesn't charge when plugged into that one. The usb port next to it works with everything. I've tried it with only something plugged into that usb port and nothing else (didnt work). nothing comes up in device manager (even in hidden devices, no yellow triangles, nothing and yes i have tried the "search for new devices" button or whatever and it didnt work). Updated windows, didnt work. Uninstalled all usb drivers, didnt work. All other usb ports on the motherboard work. Usb3.0 is properly plugged into the board, quadruple checked. I have a 4gb usb-stick that does show a light when plugged into the port but absolutely nothing else comes up, nor does it show in disk management. My phone doesnt charge, my friends phone doesnt charge, but my apple watch does! BIOS is the latest version for my board. So things that work: one 32gig usb stick works flawlessly, apple watch charger works. Things that don't: pretty much everything else i tried. Is this like some voltage thing or something because if it is i have no idea how to fix it. though isnt it a bit weird that one usb stick works and a dozen dont? i tried another verbatim stick btw and that didnt work either only the one does. I cant recall when it exactly stopped working but im pretty sure it was when i took my iphone off it. (could have been the 32gb stick i mentioned above) I usually have had my phone plugged into that port. I use it to share internet with my pc. Specs of my PC if it helps...: Asus z170 pro gaming i7 6700k 4.6ghz 16gb (2x8gb) hyperx savage 2133mhz asus rtx 2070 evo noctua nhd15 corsair rm750x corsair 460x crystal case a couple of 1tb drives and a 250gb samsung ssd and an assortment of fans and an led strip. Windows 10 1909 64bit Happy to provide all the necessary info i am able to.
