  1. Hi Folks, Just watched Coffee's latest vid about the computer and storage issues he is going through with the secondary channel he is reviving. Damaged Mobo, damaged CPU pins, fried boot M.2 and lost footage from that drive. The whole time I and flashing back to the storinator/ pc build collabs with Slowmo Guys, Hacksmith, MKBHD, iJustine, SmarterEveryday, KallMeKris and others. Who thinks Linus would be interested in helping out someone that has said on his Nicehash response vid that he is a fan and also took them to task about that company and its founders history? for the record i am not associated with Coffeezilla but i am a Patreon supporter of his. the vid i am reffering to:
  2. Msi B550 being returned. Found a Best buy deal for an Asus Tuff Gaming X570 mobo for only $70 more than the MSI B550 was. X570 will be here Wednsday same as the 5950X.
  3. Thats the plan for today now that the testing tools i ordered are here and i have the day off. Will let you know how it goes.
  4. Went into oh crap mode and ordered ne mobo right away. This then triggered full replace mode. ordered a psu tester and shorting plug to test both and will manually voltage check all plugs before plugging in. If that is the case i will scrap proxmox and have a dedicated win 10 and a dedicated linux box. Once i order a good kvm. Yes i was already looking at Wendals kvm's before LTT did that vid. Just need a 3 monitor 3pc option. The 4 & 4 option a bit more than i need lol.
  5. Folks I goofed up. Was moving my current rig into a new case that would fit the 7900xtx i bought myself for my birthday. Consiquently i upgraded my psu to a Coursair RM1000e fully modular psu. The smart move i did was just move the mobo and gpu to the new case with the new psu, test boot to make sure all was good then install the 7900. long story short no boot on the test boot. No psu fan spin, no debug leds on mobo, no visible smoke or sizzling noise. Decided to swap new psu for old and discovered i put the Cpu 8pin into the (old)Gpu and one of the 6+2 pcie cables to the cpu socket. Pretty sure the old setup is toast. Plan going forward take m.2 from old mobo put in m.2 to usb adapter and check if it is still good. if so build new 5950X system once last of the parts arrive Wednsday. Was not expecting to dip into savings but oh well. Boot in safemode since going from a Asus Tuff Gaming to an MSI mobo. Copy last of the files off that m.2 then burn install media for proxmox and win 10. then use that m.2 as a secondary to the new one incase it decides to crap out. Build new vm's for win 10, Linux, and Android-X86. Given the oopsie i just did and the plan i have does anyone see any holes in that plan?
  6. From the messages she posted where the pace of production was too much for her and her mental well-being I think it is exactly that. I think the job was much more than she thought it was going to be. That happens every day, sometimes once you are in a roll you find its not the fit you thought it was. You can either adapt to the new roll, work with the higher ups to tweak the roll or in her case decide that leaving was the best choice for her. I am sad to hear she resorted to self harm in order to get some time off without feeling she was pressured to keep going. The fact that that was not picked up by her supervisor or anyone else in the management team points to further growth that needs to be undertaken in the C-Suite and management structure. Alternatively as has been discussed at several points in LMG's history maybe the time has come for the rank and file to form a union to further work life balance issues, formalize grievance issues, structure the bidirectional communication from C-Suite to Staff and vice versa.
  7. This was typed up last night but i was tired and wanted to give it another once over after i had gotten some sleep before posting it. i wake up today and find a new LMG video that seems to go along with what i was thinking last night. i am glad that it appears Linus recognized the issue and seems to be turning in the right direction and avoided his Noah or Stocton moment(se below). How they execute on the plan laid out in the Where do we go from here video is yet to be determined. Below is what I had typed up last night apart from some typos and finishing a few thoughts left hanging when my sleep addled brain had a "SQUIRREEL!" moment on something else. yes its fairly pointless to post after the new LMG vid went live but i just want to air my thoughts. i honestly was not expecting any updates to the situation from LMG till WAN show even though Linus said it would not be on there. there is no way this would not have come up and if it didn't it likely would have had more of the audience heading for the exits: Having thought this over the last few days I will say this. The rushed nature of the videos is a problem (Employees are on record that this is so). An employee who a few months back complained that they wished they were not so rushed to get content out the door then face-plants in reviewing a product is in fact a face-plant for LMG as a whole. The number of inaccuracies in the videos and the lack luster corrections is a major problem in the manufacturing world we would call those process indicators (indicating an underlying problem that needs to be addressed before it gets worse and affects the quality of the resulting product). The incompetent testing of the Billet Labs cooler is a MAJOR problem. The auctioning of said cooler and the resulting likely loss of access to new tech hardware specifically pre-production review samples is possibly a fatal problem for LMG as a whole. Who is going to trust them with prototypes now? Linus's response wall of text to these legitimate issues currently is giving me Noah Katz and or Stockton Rush vibes. Obviously not good. Can LMG be pulled back from the pit of irrelevance it seems to be target locked on? I think so but that is going to require MAJOR work. LMG needs to realize the honeymoon from the Hackening is over. These precipitous drop in accuracy and snobbish attitude expressed in the responses so far have burned up massive amounts of good will among your audience and they are starting to go elsewhere. i myself am wondering if i will be renewing my annual Floatplane membership this year When Labs was first announced it was framed as getting back to basics and really putting tech products through their paces and give an honest and competent assessment of consumer goods. Getting back to the in depth independent testing and validation that has slowly disappears from the consumer electronics market over the last decade and a half. with realistic objective data comparing consumer hardware in order to help inform the public about what claims made by OEM's marketing campaigns are legit and what are complete hyped up garbage. Applying scientific rigor to these tests so others if they so choose can replicate the test conditions and get within a reasonable margin of error (for unaccountable test condition variances) was the goal I got from the original labs video at the first labs facility. The fact that they needed to up size the building they were going to do it in once they started trying to lay things out should have been an indication to them that they had dramatically underestimated the scope of the undertaking. It is becoming clear that the testing methodology being used, the lack of time to properly test and validate data and rundown outliers and root cause them, the lack of post shoot feedback and re-shoot or even voice-over to correct what should be the very few errors that will slip through even the most stringent testing. Some thought I have on how to go about this. LMG needs to do a quality shutdown for 1-2 weeks. Don't shoot any vids requiring testing or deep review (yes I know that severely limits their options but it is needed). Maybe make the only vids those weeks be WAN, Techlinked and Gamelinked. Surface level stuff with easily validated information while you work out the kinks in your analysis methods. Show details of what was done, what problems you have found and what mitigations or process changes are being implemented or that you are exploring what to do in cases you have not found a path forward on said problem. solicit feedback from the community. you have over 100 people on staff. you have several million that watch you and can point out blind spots they see in your coverage or provide an idea or perspective that you have not explored. I myself have over 20 years experience in manufacturing, testing, and troubleshooting electronics from system down to component level. it is rare that i see a soldering iron picked up in a vid without rolling my eyes. Labs is not ready for prime-time yet it is still in its infancy as for as process and procedures needs at least a few more months of testing, trialing, process development and validation before anything coming out of there can be considered valid and reliable. Take the time needed to do a thorough review and update on policies, plans, procedures, methodology, capability, quality control, technical data review and validation. Be able to point to where every data-point or spec displayed or called out in the video came from. Identify and start to build out a dedicated off camera Quality control team. This team will dig deeper into the OEM claims and or testing data from other sources. they will review all data used or generated by Labs and analyze it to spot errors like the 300% performance boost from 1 GPU Gen to Another that featured prominently in the GN and Chris Titus Tech vid. The current system is obviously not working anymore. i seem to remember something from the labs announcement vid about making all data publicly available. that needs to happen NOW! treat it as a scientific investigation. list the product, list the claims being investigated, list the testing methodology including tools used and the raw data resulting from that testing heck even through in the cal dates on the calibrated equipment used, the data analysis methodology used to draw conclusions from that data.
  8. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. The one place I did not think to check. Steel not ideal for cutting holes for IO Grommets but doable. A quick look at Grainger on McMaster-Carr shows several options. I can't believe i didn't think of that on my own. I looked at Lowes.com but didn't find anything that looked like it would work. Thank You Decks515.
  9. to be clear i was not specifying using 2 pieces of plywood with laninante veneer on top. I would prefer a solid piece of wood or engineered wood. pref not MDF or what not.
  10. That is an option but likely pricier than most. will go that route if nothing else pans out. i have some time its in the i'll do this in a few weeks stage not the oh god i need to get this done this weekend stage lol.
  11. TLDR What are your preferred sources for desktop/countertop material for sit stand desk frames? Looking for 95X35X1" size. Howdy folks, Looking to upgrade my computer desk setup to make room for studying, a third Monitor, and tinkering with hardware at my desk. I have already settled on a motorized adjustable size sit stand frame from Vivo primarily for size and stability since its a 4 leg design: https://www.newegg.com/vivo-desks-laptop-stands/p/2T4-01JM-00201 I am planning to set it up in a 95"X32 or 35" configuration. I am unfortunately having issues finding tops in that size. Yes I know it is quite large but it fits my needs and gives me room to spread out. This will take up 1 entire wall of my office/workspace. I would prefer something more substantial than just a sheet of 1/2" plywood covered in a thin laminate sheet. I am open to using 2 pieces and installing angle iron braces underneith to regain rigidity. Google searches for desktops and counter tops in that size have not been bringing up anything worthwhile so figured I would bounce this question to the community and see if any of you have a preferred vendor for such monstrosities. lol.
  12. Ok I am 0 for 2 in trying out Aftershokz bone conduction headphones. The issue is the transducers keep winding up in my ears instead of resting on my skin in front of them. I have tried the Aeroplex, and just tried the Air's and now have to return them. Can anyone point me to a model or even another manufacturer that has bigger headphones. Or who knows is there a boneonduction fitting guide i am unaware of? I just need music at work to help keep my sanity by drowning out the conspiracy theory coven in the next isle. I've already lost 5-10 IQ points overhearing their ranting. HELP! Before you ask i can't do noise cancelling over ears for safety and comfort reasons on my long 10 hour shifts.
