Do note that O rings will alter how the switches feel so do try the switches without and with the O rings to see if you will like it or not.

    Yeah for sure.
I meant to write in the OP 'maybe' prior to 'o-rings as well'. My bad.

The only reason why I felt the need to mention the o-rings, is because I recently added them to my k70 an the difference has genuinely been night an day.

this probably isn't the best solution.

but how many times did you just turn on the pc again after the bsod.

and did you try turning off the psu for 10 sec and then turning the computer on again.

no idea why but this always fixes any bsod i have for atleast 3-9 months

On the machine which it was having a BSOD, I tried it quite a few times. Like I'm not sure exactly becuase this was a few days ago already, but like enough times where it could easily be considered "Ok something is going on here, I need to change something".

Yeah I turned the PSU off, an I cleared bios when I got into it, however I didn't full the battery to clear cmos..

belive that bsod comes from SSD/HDD's

whenever i get a bsod i just let my pc BSOD loop and it work after a little bit, then i check for driver updates and if any exist i update em and if not i just go back to playing.

The isue is, when the bsod occurred I tried to get back into windows (on the system that would even get passed post), within 1 minute of logging into windows (if it would make it that far) the BSOD would occur.

I have a pc with similar specs, but with a asrock b450m steel legend, but also with a r5 3600.

Whilst waiting for his cpu to arrive, I put my r5 3600 in his board an my gpu to load up windows onto his ssd an to make sure that all the other parts were not DOA. Everything worked absolutely fine, with no problems.

When the cpu arrives, the cpu wasn't flush with the side compartment of the box (you know where you can see the chip) this raised some red flags for me. So I put the chip into my mobo, it worked fine for about 10 minutes, until I got CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT Bsod. I tried clearing CMOS, restarting a couple times, I actually got into windows once or twice but after a few minutes I would get the same BSOD.

I then decided to put the chip into my friends mobo (using my gpu as my friend hadn't bought one yet) an it this time wouldn't post. I didn't even get a post.

Since then I have sent the retailor a request for a return, which they have accepted (meaning that I will post it to them they will test it out an if it is detirmined that it is faulty they will send me a new one/give me a refund). Is there anything else I should try prior to sending them the chip?

    Thanks for the help.

  5. 1 hour ago, LogicalDrm said:

On paper, yes. I have no personal experience from either.

Ah ok. When the new psu arrives I will evaluate the acoustics.

I also contacted be quiet!, they said that the front panel for the pure base 500Dx is slightly different, an therefore not compatiable. So I asked if I could purchase an additional panel for the pure base 500, so I can attempt a front panel ventilation mod.

  6. About a day after this post I realised that the reason for the constant loud fan noise has been my PSU fan. Lol. So I have ordered a corsair RM 750x 2018.

    12 hours ago, LogicalDrm said:

Since intake is your biggest issue, I would move both Noctua's there. On exhaust side, since you already have big air cooler, you could just have single fan. More fan = more noise.

Do you think the Noctua fans will provide superior static pressure relative to the silent wings 3 an pure wings 2 140mm fans, allowing greater intake through the front panel mesh?

  7. Hi guys,

I have pretty much 0 experience with case modding to be honest, so I may require some ELI5.

My goal for this mod is to improve airflow in my be quiet! pure base 500 build, I would have purchased the 500Dx but the black model was not available when I ordered anywhere in Australia, an it doesn't look like it will be available any time soon.

I have seen various front panel mods around the internet, where the front panel has effectively had a chunk removed an replaced with mesh. I have the metallic grey version of the case, but I think black mesh will not look out of place.

    Question/seeking advice:

    1. How does one go about starting a  project like this?

    2. Approx how easy is this type of modification to botch? ie how significant are the risks

    3. Any reccomendations/advice from some of the communites seasoned veterans?

    4. Approx what is the cost of undertaking a project like this? [I am based in Australia]

    Thanks in advance!

  8. 1 minute ago, jaslion said:

I would not know about any compatible front panels.

Ok, I have sent be quiet! an email about compatiabillity, as even if I were to return my current case the 500Dx [the same case but with an airflow oriented front panel] the black 500Dx is sold out in every be quiet! case distributor in Australia at the moment.

So for for, it seems I have a few options.

    1. take off front panel, jank rig some mesh to in front of the fans an just deal with the horrible aesthetic for a while.

    2. Mod the existing front panel for Air flow.

    3. if compatiable, purchase 500dx front panel.

Is there anything else regarding my setup that you think could be optimised?

  9. 5 minutes ago, jaslion said:

A quiet pc is achieved not through a silencing case as those only really work for lower end stuff before heating up too much causing the other parts to need to run their fans louder.

Silencing a gpu is just hard. The only effective way is to costum cool them.

Yeah that makes sense, normally I would have gone with a airflow oriented case. The only reason I did not, is because I wanted to ensure that I would have adequate cpu cooler clearance for either the noctua nh-d15 or the dark rock pro 4. This was the only case that was within my price range at the time, an was compatiable with my desired heatsink.

Maybe I could see if I can find a matching pront panel an try an modify it to house some front panel mesh. That would be sweet as. Do you think the 500Dx front panel is compatiable? That would be a lot easier of a solution if I could find one that would get shipped to Australia.

    I will have to investigate.

  10. 10 minutes ago, jaslion said:

Your temp issues are basically due to having a very restrictive ariflow case. Take off the front panel and most likely your problems will be fixed.

Yeah, I knew that going into the purchase [ordered about ~10 days ago]. The Dx model, was only available in white with no estimate for when the black model will be restocked. This is from pccasegear, which is like pretty much the only be quiet! case distributor that had available stock at the time of ordering [in Aus].

I would kind of prefer not to remove front panel though, due to there not being there being no dust filter inbetween intake an my components.

  11. Hello,

So I was wondering if any of you guys could give me some advice about fan layout optimisation/advice for my current build. Best case scenario, I would like a profile or loadout that is extremely quiet for when I doing work or something non-process intensive. With another profile for gaming where the acoustics of the system don't really matter as I have my headphones blasting anyways.

pc partpicker list at bottom of post.

I find that even when I set in bios my top exhaust fans the "silent" preset, that it seems to be the loudest component in my system. Although depending on GPU temps those fans tend to kick on even when the GPU is idling [it has a 0rpm mode by default], this is an issue that I did not experience in my s340 elite. My hypothesis for the reasoning behind the increased GPU temps both at idle an during gaming are due to the front intake fans either lacking the static pressure required to pull sufficient air through the fairly restrictive filtration setup on this case [I removed the bottom intake filter], or due to them monitoring cpu temps which are consistently very low at idle an during gaming not ramping up sufficiently also reducing air flow to the GPU.

Any tips/optimisation guides would be greatly appreciated [doesn't even have to be directly related to the topic as I love to hear feedback about my setup, and/pr setup reccomendations/optimisations]

    Some other Important information:

    CPU OC'ed 4.2 all core 1.2v.

GPU overclocked ~150 core clock ~675mem clock

Last night I was looking at this forum and I came accross Fan Control, the program made by a fellow forum member, would it be worthwhile setting that software up to monitor gpu temps for front intake?

    Current Fan setup:

    Front intake consists of:

Bottom int: 1 140mm silent wings 3 1000rpm model [I think in pcpartpicker it is listed as high speed model, but I don't see that listed on the packaging so I am assuming I do not have that model].

Top int: included 140mm pure wings 2  set to performance pre set in bios - monitoring cpu

Top fans 2x 120mm noctua nf-12a [currently mounted as exhaust, I experimented with intake initially, apparently exhaust is superior for gpu cooling an since temps increased in this case relative to my previous case the s340 elite I figured I would give it a go] Currently set to standard or silent preset in bios - monitoring cpu

Rear fan: 1x 140mm pure wings 2 [included in case] set to performance pre set in bios - monitoring cpu

7nm process is so dense that the heat can't travel fast enough through the silicon into the IHS so it doesn't matter how much cooling you have (correct me if I'm wrong). When you run workloads like this at these temperatures, you will definitely degrade your cpu.

Not sure if the reason is correct, although ur rationale definetly makes sense to me. Using Liquid metal on the die would probably increase the heat transfer, aswell as reducing the thickness of the ihs, not that I am reccomending you go ahead an do that haha. Not even sure if it is possible/worth it on AMD proccessors, I have only really heard about people doing it on intel Cpu's.

My Ryzen 3600 can run 4.4Ghz@1.175V or even lower (temperatures around the 60's). For Prime95 small FFTs I need 1.25V. Temperatures can then spike to 96°C(!).

Yes, this is pretty similar to what I experienced.

How is your pc setup thermally speaking? may potentially aid your abillity to do the p95 test, although if it is an unrealistic use case scenario, it probably is not worth your while.

ok fair enough, I figured it is worth asking haha.

I shoulda asked prior to installing lmao.

sorry about the mad off topicness of my posts, but literally just got delivered a hyper 212x (don't really want to discuss why publically ... pm i guess?) is the hyper 212x going to perform better than a h7 cryorig?

  14. 5 hours ago, LM99 said:

I had the exact same experience yesterday and I didn't understand it at first because other people where pushing 1.35V or more to reach 4.4Ghz. I was at 1.175V and it was still stable so I just didn't go any lower but possebly could.

Make sure to run a Prime95 test with the small FFts. The system was stable for hours on a normal stress test but with Prime95 small FFts I had to bump the voltage up to 1.25V.

Thanks, this helps a lot. Did you happen to purchase your CPU fairly recently?

I decided to take the advice of the r/overclocking FAQ, since my pc is my daily driver I dont want to risk degradation by going over 1.2v static. Not sure if you had heard abouut that, but it seems to get mentioned fairly often.

  15. Hi guys,

as the title says, I've gotta 48gb ram installed, only 2 is showing up, presumably due to am4 motherboards only supporting dual channel.

Currently only channels 3/4 are being utilised but the other ram has definelty been detected as there was an error message. I would like to use 1 kit as nanflash for hdd's or as extra vram maybe? haha I'm not sure.

    the 32gb kit is 3200mhz g.skill ripjaws v 2x16, the other is 2x8gb 2400mhz corsair vengence lpx.

If this is totally stupid and a waste of time, sorry for wasting anyones time haha I think it's kinda cool.

Side note kinda: As many of u probably did aswell, this morning I downloaded valorant, the anti-cheat was super suss and I vaguely remember hearing a large uproar about this during the beta. Since reading this article I have removed all riot games software an reinstalled windows. How likely is it that this anti-cheat software is actually doing the things the article claims? I mean I love sausage rolls as much as the next guy, but I have never heard of them, an like they may be super reputable but like idk. Really interested to hear what others think about this.

sorry for the rant, thanks for reading.

    ok this makes sense, thanks.

Can you reccomend settings for stress testing on prime95?

I can safely tick off realbench has been running for ages. I'm also getting OCCT, what settings should I use for that?

    thanks

Stable? From a singular cinebench run you got stable?

Needs more in depth testing yet. 100 second run is hardly enough to call this stable.

Haha dont worry, at the time of posting I had run cinebench once, which yes is not adequate on it's own. Then validated with realbench for about an hour.

depbating whether or not it is worthwhile running prime 95 for the next 4ish hours or another stress test.

So far so good btw, thanks.

Do you have any reccomendations for which setting's to use on p95, or are there any other stress tests that you would reccomend?

    Cheers!
