  1. maybe you can try to pick up a used 5800x3d when the time is right, right now I would say it's fine
  2. Put the hdmi into the gpu, your processor doesn't have a graphics chip, so the motherboard's hdmi port is useless in your case.
  3. That metric is pretty unreliable, it will show FPS average over the whole runtime so also while you are in the menu. To get a real picture you would have to measure it while ingame with a different tool.
  4. I see, well I looked up the prices for those parts on idealo in the UK and the 5900x starts at £300 and the 5800x3d starts at £298, so I would say just go for it, as long as you are quick to resell your 3900x. Looking at sold listings on ebay in the UK it seems you would get £160-190 for your 3900x.
  5. that's interesting would you mind sending me a link to those offers?
  6. That sounds like a very good price for that CPU, here in Germany the 3900x costs around 170-200€ on the used market, and the 5900x and 5800x3d both are around 340€. so if I would be able to sell a 3900x, and actually get a 5900x for 200€ I wouldn't think too much about and just get the free upgrade. Is pricing that different for you or did you just find a very good deal?
  7. Sorry I'm not online that much anymore, I'm not sure if this is still relevant to you, but my point was more that with your current monitor the gaming experience between the cards would probably be about the same and the same goes for those 2 CPUs. Of course the 12700KF would generally be a better fit, but probably the difference in performance would be negligible for most things you do right now. If you can demonstrate the use case that you have in mind, then sure go for it. Maybe you want to save some time video editing or something, but for gaming I don't think you can find a use case worth spending any money on this as an upgrade, since the 2 CPUs are from the same generation and not that far apart. look at this as a quick example: https://youtu.be/AYYoOQ25sUs Is it worth to have like 5-10fps more? I don't think so maybe you do though. Maybe you just like pushing higher fps numbers as a hobby. It's also valid to just buy new stuff so you have something to tinker and have fun, but I think if you are going to make this upgrade then it would fit better to a 1440p monitor might as well upgrade that too. Or you could wait for about a year and spend the same money on something that is better, that is what I personally would prefer. To me an upgrade in the same generation is pointless, as I think you will end up with the same experience/feeling while playing games in the end (like you said earlier you play your games maxed out on high fps). But again if you just want to tinker go for it, we all have our own reasons and money isn't everything. You could also argue that in one year you get less for your old parts on the second hand market, so who knows what's the right upgrade cycle just from a value perspective. Probably someone smarter than me can answer that to a better extent.
  8. Well in that case I do think it definitely is overkill for your current setup, unless you want to further upgrade your system in the near future I would say better save your money or as you suggested resell it as fast as possible. I don't see the point in pushing even more fps when your monitor is already saturated. You would just pay more money on your power bill for about the same experience. I suspect for the next 1-2 years the 3060 will play everything just fine. If you spend the $800 CAD then, you will get a much better card. However there are obviously a bunch of things that the 3080ti does a lot better than the 3060, if you want to play around with ray tracing, or play at a higher resolution it would be a nice upgrade right now. Especially when a used seller specifies only pick up, there can be pretty good deals. Often people in that segment just don't want to sit on their high end hardware when buying the newest latest and greatest. Just as you said make sure it actually works and be careful when buying it then it should be fine.
  9. The upgrade would only make sense if your current graphics cards can't handle the games you play on your current monitor. Consider the possibility that this is a scam though, over here the cheapest 3080ti I can see is a little over 700€ and it's much more common that they sell for over 800€ (used). If the price is good and it doesn't sell for a long time it indicates that something is wrong with it, here's what sol eBay listings look like in Canada right now:
  10. Check out this so you can see what you are looking at, possible issues are clearance or PSU.
  11. It is probably e-waste since you can't really produce something good and sell it really cheap, if you are okay with tossing it soon then you can buy it, I would rather spend a bit more and keep whatever you bought for a longer time.
  12. Well if you just bought it and something doesn't fit you might as well return it. If I understand it correctly it just depends if you want to use all the ports in the front or leave 1 unplugged and just not use it.
  13. You could have bought a cheaper CPU and cooler and went for a better GPU instead, like a 5600 with a mid tier air cooler and a 6800. That's usually a good consideration in general if you mostly game on it.
  14. Happy to help Other than that I don't see too much that you could change. It looks like you are happy to pay a bit more to get quality components. Samsung SSDs have been best in class or near the top for a while, it looks like the 990 pro is no exception. You probably don't need it for performance, but it's nice to have for quality/longevity. If you want to save another 100 bucks maybe go for samsung's 980 pro instead. It's also very good and honestly more than you need, since it won't change gaming performance or anything. It's more interesting for people that want to move large files around a lot for example. I've seen the 980 pro for good prices like 100€ for 1TB or 180€ for 2TB. There are certainly cheaper coolers than Noctua's that do a good job too, for example the Scythe Fuma 2 or the Deepcool AK620 can both be had for around 50-60€ with similar performance, while Noctua's Coolers are closer to 90-100€. I haven't tried Noctua yet, but from what I've read they are very quiet, so maybe worth considering paying extra.
  15. Yes the i5, since it sounded like you were only gaming it is the much better choice. Here's another example just going head to head https://youtu.be/nds4xe-bjRo as you can see in gaming often the 13600k wins, or at higher resolution there is almost no difference. Productivity the I9 wins, but not by a lot either. Still where I live it costs 170€ more, making it a very bad buy in comparison just from a performance standpoint. These days paying less money for power is a welcome addition in my eyes as well.
