  1. Oh how cute. Another GPU very few of us will be able to buy at MSRP because of crypto currency-loving peasants driving up prices unnecessarily.
  2. Since you've tried out 2 different motherboard with 2 different chipsets and still got errors, I would probably rule out the issue being the motherboard. It's likely a ram issue. Are the ram sticks new or used from an older system? Also, how about ram voltage? How much is it getting?
  3. First thing this reminds me of are the days of Pentium 4 where they just kept increasing clock speed mindlessly because they didn't have anything innovative or undeniably competitive to offer. Oh how the mighty have fallen because of complacency.
  4. Some people simply cannot be pleased. They'll always find a way to complain about something. They'll quantify "caring" about certain issues and whatever number you come up with, they'll make it seem it isn't good enough.
  5. I'm definitely getting one. I love the design. It's different. I don't want another console design that just blends in with "traditional and boring" hardware like blu-ray players and whatever. A lot of people in these forums will always have shallow and irrelevant opinions about consoles and how it's for "kids" or how they're airflow experts, and it's so tiring to skip over them because they just say the same old crap over and over again as if they're proving a point. They say "Oh this game looks meh", but when devs announce it's getting released on PC 3 years later, they'll be like "OMG shut up and take my money".
  6. The last rig I built had an optical drive, but the one I'm currently using doesn't. I didn't feel the need for it anymore since internet speeds have increased significantly over the past 5 years. I just use streaming services wherever I consume video content since those are encoded in Dolby Digital anyway. As far as quality goes, my eyes and ears will not be able to truly appreciate the difference, unless I have both streaming 4K HDR and Blu-ray 4K HDR side by side at the same time. And even then, I would probably just think "meh, it's nice when you look at the bitrate statistics in real-time because the numbers are higher". There's only so much my eyes and ears can appreciate. I don't need to see the pore on the face of the actor to be slightly sharper on Blu-ray when compared to a streaming service. So when I look at value for money, I am absolutely willing to forgo high bitrate physical media for the convenience of streaming media + millions of hours of content for 1 price.
  7. I hope what I'm about to write will inspire you while keeping your feet grounded. You're a teenager with a PC that can play games - regardless if they are the latest release or the ones you find heavily discounted on Steam. I'm 32 and I did not have that luxury when I was a teen. Yes, computers are much more ubiquitous now, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a luxury that you enjoy, while I, as well as many others in this forum, never did. My family could only afford gaming consoles back then, and the one PC we had at home during that time was purely for office documents and email. My neighbor got me into PC gaming and I remember we would share the keyboard while playing Heretic - an ancient game with far worse graphics than any of the games you mentioned. I would fire the weapon, while he used the WASD keys. It was pretty lame, but it made me dream one day that I'd own one for myself. I get that you feel like your setup is "not as good as" other people, but so what? You're young and have your life ahead of you. You will eventually get there. The last time I had a gaming rig that was truly high-end (like, top of the line i7 Ivy Bridge and GTX 780 SLI) was the last birthday gift I got from my father (cheesy and spoiled, I know), but I swore to myself that the next one I will build will be from my own pockets. I grew up and had to balance my priorities. Finished undergrad, then worked for 2 years, then I got accepted to the graduate school of my dreams in Singapore. Obviously, the PC was the last of my priorities. After getting my Master's degree, worked my ass off to save up, without forgetting the promise to myself that the next PC I would build will come from the hard work I put in daily. Long story short, you have nothing to be ashamed of. Play what you want. If you're not completely happy yet, that's ok. Work for it, then reward yourself. PS. The next PC I built is in my sig.
  8. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I find the whole "no protection needed since I use commonsense" argument very similar to saying "I don't use condoms because I pull out anyway". It's reasonably stupid. Unfortunately, a lot of PC enthusiasts still think viruses behave like it's 1998. Commonsense definitely helps - A LOT. Sure, I get that. With regard to antivirus apps @Blue and purple mentioned, I would pick neither. I used Bitdefender for 4 years and definitely offered excellent protection. But it has unfortunately become so bloated. Used it until 3 weeks ago, and I recall it occupying like 250-350mb of ram. It's ridiculous. Downloaded the trial version of ESET Internet Security. Only using 73mb as I type. Loving it so far. Extremely light on resources and caught all the bad stuff when I "took it out for a spin" visiting a bunch of sites I shouldn't be visiting lol.
  9. Haven't seen Ruby in a while! Back then, ATI had cooler tech demos to show off their GPU than NVIDIA.
  10. It's such a shame Sony still doesn't get it. It's a Japanese company being Japanese again (which is both good and bad). The design is fantastic, the unique features are going to be awesome, the cameras will be some of the better ones out there, but it's all going to be brought down by PRICE and limitations that are inexcusable for the price (ie. 4GB or ram. Really?)
  11. Why would you want to the clocks to be at your OCd settings when at idle? That's silly. You gain nothing, you generate more heat, and you consume more power. It's like revving an engine at 100kph with the hand brake engaged and gear at neutral. When the need for processing resources arises, it kicks in faster than you can blink. Since you said it also dips below the OC frequency when you're gaming, then maybe you want to share details about your cooling and temps, since those affect clock speeds when some settings are on auto.
  12. I agree with @berny22 regarding Logitech and Corsair headphones. My opinion might not be a popular one, but I would recommend you look at Turtle Beach headphones. I've owned 2 pairs in the last 5 years (not because they broke down. One for PC and one for console). Always found them super comfortable. As far as sound quality goes, that will always be highly subjective, but definitely found them a joy to listen to all the time. Their top tier wireless headset, the Elite Atlas Aero Wireless are on sale now too. 120 bucks from their online store. Really just my 2 cents, in a landscape dominated by SteelSeries, HyperX and Razer.
  13. When I finished reading your first post, which detailed your PC's specs, your CPU-GPU combo stood out. I get that you're trying to find more ways to squeeze that extra bit of performance from that CPU, but I won't sugar coat my words and just say you'll be wasting your time. It runs too hot as it is, and any incremental increase in performance will probably just increase your temps and electric bill far more than those extra numbers in benchmarks. I honestly think if you sell your CPU, mobo, ram, and both GPUs, you'll have the budget to buy a Ryzen 5 1600, a decent B350 or B450 mobo, decent ram and a 1660 Super or the new radeon 5600XT. Either brand new or used. From reading all your replies, it seems like you're very attached to this CPU, since you said you want to hang on to it for 2 more years. Each month you wait (not even each year) and cling to those parts, their resell value is significantly diminished, which also decreases your purchasing power to upgrade and save on electricity.
  14. It seems around 45-50 degrees C is normal for idle temps using the stock cooler. Well, that's at least according to other users sharing their experience. I guess you have nothing to worry about.
  15. @sponkaaNo need to worry. It's working as intended. Just want to point out that only one of the cores is actually boosted to 3.9ghz. Ryzen processors are designed to boost its clock speed automatically, even without you doing any kind of overclock. However, this is primarily dependent on: 1. Workload demand (playing a game, video editing, benchmarking etc) 2. Temperature of the CPU and the the entire PC case If CPU and internal temperatures are high, it is less likely to boost its cores. It will boost at lower clock speeds for all/some cores or not at all. Based on the screenshot you shared, your CPU temp is at 50 degrees C, which I think is a bit high considering 5 out of 6 cores are not even at 3Ghz. What is your case? How about your fans?
