  1. Managed to get it to boot to backup bios after repeated attempts. Got the bios reflashed and PC seems to be fine now
  2. Nope, just managed to get it turned on from the time I posted to the time you replied. But still didn't solve the original issue of having to reset it every time I restarted. I managed to reflash the bios and seems to be working now. But can't delete the post
  3. I'm quite sure it's not a hardware issue, I'm sure it's a bios issue or software. It did it yesterday and when I did get it booted I stress tested the cpu/GPU/ram and it was fine. Gammed for a couple hours. But went to restart and same thing. Had to reset CMOS to boot. I managed to get it to boot after spamming the PSU on and off while holding the power button. (Edit- reflashing the bios currently and put a new CMOS battery in to see if I can get something to work)
  4. Had an issue starting yesterday where the PC decided to start crashing and not booting without a CMOS reset after it locked up during a bios edit. Now today I went to try and reflash the bios but I can't get it to boot to bios at all. PC starts, lights and fans come on but no screen output and no mouse or keyboard. Tried booting to backup bios and won't go. Tried taking the CMOS battery out and jumping the clear CMOS pins with power off (which worked yesterday) and nothing. Can't get it to do anything. Any tips ? Really can't afford to just go out and buy a new cpu/mobo/ram combo right now.
  5. Gigabyte z97x mobo with a 4690k. Newer ram, PC ran great until today, tried to overclock the i5 some more to keep up to some newer games. I went in the bios and messed around with the core clocks and voltages and when I went to save and boot it crashed on reboot. Restarted and had to re enter all the settings. Ran good, went back to turn it up a bit more. Ended up locking up while editing. Had to force a restart. Ever since then I've been having issues on start up, PC will come on, fans, lights, but no video output and no keyboard or mouse. I have to shut the power down, clear the CMOS, then reboot into the bios and then boot into windows. Then I can game and do whatever until I shut it off and the cycle repeats. I've tried booting through the backup bios and it seems to work fine. Do I need to just try to reflash my main bios ? Or is there something I'm missing ?
  6. Ya not looking to be king of the hill. Just able to play the game better than an xbox one. A 250$ upgrade after building my pc almost 10 years ago to keep up with current games isnt a huge deal in my books. Eventually if i get back into gaming ill do a new build but just looking to get back into it
  7. Ya i dont do a whole lot of gaming anymore but the GF wants the game and its either i get it on pc and upgrade my gpu and ram to a 1070ti and 16gb of ram for around 250$ cad or she gets a xbox one off a family member. But i think even my 970 would have better graphics than a xbox one first gen. Just want to see if the 4690k would be a big bottle neck to the 1070ti
  8. Ya I seen some benchmarks and seen the 970 could do it on all low but the whole 3.5gb of ram thing definetly hinders its performance. From what i seen the 1070ti will do decent at medium but not sure if the 4690k will bottle neck the 1070ti
  9. Well this is my first post in many years. Unfortunately been out of the tech scene for a while and stuff moves very quickly. Looking at getting Hogwarts legacy and want to know if its worth it on my current system. I know i dont have enough ram at 8gb and my gtx970 definetly isnt ideal. But before i go out and try to source some more ddr3 ram and look into buying a better gpu. (Found a msi gtx1070ti local for a decent price) is the 4690k still good enough ? Or is it just a waste of time upgrading the GPU ? Edit: not looking to go max out everything and be getting 120fps. Just looking to be playable at 1080p medium ish settings. Its running 4.1ghz currently but can oc more if needed
  10. not neccesarily tougher but something that holds the phone better ? not sure how to say it, but 3/3 phones ive had with otterboxes the case has destroyed the phones finish from the plastic frame rubbing the phone constantly, not to mention after about a year the rubber starts to peel and thats happened to all my otter boxes
  11. im looking at getting a lg g8x thin q, single screen, currently have a g7 one, always had otterbox defenders but every phone including this one gets destroyed by the case, dust and dirt gets in and scratches the hell out of the phone frame, and this one even managed to get the back glass shattered at the corner but not the screen.... I always put on a tempered glass screen protector, looking for a good case that will be rugged and drop resistant, and actually hold the phone snug, im a heavy equipment mechanic and always around lots of dust and dirt and my phone does get dropped enough, just looking for other options then the otter box
  12. ended up buying a 500gb mx500 for my school laptop and a cheap kingston a400 250gb for the one im going to sell
  13. looking to buy a 250 ish gb ssd, been out of the tech scene since the gtx970 and devils canyon era so things have come a ways since then lol, looking for something not too expensive but also not garbage, just going to be putting one in a cheap laptop to resell and one in my older laptop for school to hopefully keep it going for another year or two
  14. what are your guys thoughts on the uphere gpu sag preventer thing ? my 970 strix has quite the sag and its been held up by a deck of cards for the past year, think this would keep it from sagging ? https://www.amazon.ca/upHere-Graphics-Anodized-Aerospace-Aluminum/dp/B07D1J5W5L/ref=sr_1_6?s=cyber-monday&ie=UTF8&qid=1543358661&sr=8-6&keywords=gpu+holder
  15. looking for ideas on a Bluetooth speaker to get for Christmas, need something water/dust proof or highly resistant as ill be taking it dirt biking, snow machining and while working so has to be rugged enough, looking for something on the regular size, nothing overly big, good sound quality, battery life, all that usual stuff, trying to keep it more budget friendly as ill be asking for it as a gift and dont want them spending a whole lot, what do you guys recommend ?
