ITX build - how does my parts list look?
Consilium replied to Consilium's topic in New Builds and Planning
I picked the 570 because it means that if she ever wants to upgrade to a Zen3 chip in the future it would be able to handle it. Source: from video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfTPLF8OKK4&t=356s -
ITX build - how does my parts list look?

This is great to know, because I still have a poor understanding about how different chipsets affect a build. So there wouldn't be any advantage in getting a 570 chipset mobo? -
ITX build - how does my parts list look?
Consilium replied to Consilium's topic in New Builds and Planning
I could go for a single fan AIO instead of the low profile CPU cooler for sure. It's just that I've watched so many videos where the performance difference between air and water is shown as negligible and I thought that in such a small case I should use whatever takes up the least space. Also there is very little room in the case for cables and I thought not having the AIO tubes in there would help free it up a bit. -
ITX build - how does my parts list look?

Wow, thanks for the awesome suggestions. This list shows the following warning on Pc Part Picker: "Some AMD B450 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Matisse CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions." What's with that? -

Thanks for your response! Why do you recommend a larger case? The SG13 is extremely well reviewed. Also, once I added a GPU Pc Part Picker said it would only need 450W, so I picked 500W just to be safe. -
Budget (including currency): $1500 AUD Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: - 1440p gaming (Vermintide 2, Witcher III, Cyberpunk 2077). - General browsing and multitasking. Hi everyone, My sister's current machine is well out of date so I'm building a new ITX rig for her. There's no GPU selected because I'm going to wait for the new RTX3000 series before I buy that part. At the moment she only has a cheap 1080p/60 monitor but I'd like to upgrade her in the future to a nice 1440p display. I also want to ensure that the build is fairly future-proofed so that it'll last her a while and she can play new titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 as they come out. Please let me know what you think of this parts list. Thanks in advance!

It might be worth borrowing a mate's monitor which has V-Sync/G-Sync and turning that on to sync your FPS to the monitor's max frequency. If that doesn't solve the issue then you know it's related to your hardware, not the display.

What mid-range laptop should I buy?
Consilium replied to Consilium's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Yeah I was sceptical about the G3. Thanks for the heads up! That's surprising about the XPS 15 though. I thought Linus himself loved it and used it as his daily driver? Thanks for the recommendations. I will do some research on them and get back to you with my thoughts soon. Really appreciate the suggestions -

Please see my other reply Also, as for input devices I'd probably just use a mouse bc I don't want to game with a trackpad. Yeah Reforged doesn't run great at the best of times. Those loading screen times! -

I'd be willing to spend anything under $2000. I've been looking at the Dell XPS 15 and the Dell G3. I think the G3 would probably suit my purpose best, but idk if they're good. I know the XPS has a great rep. https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/xps-15-laptop/spd/xps-15-7590-laptop https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/dell-g3-15-gaming-laptop/spd/g-series-15-3590-laptop -
Hey everyone, I live in Australia and I'm in the market for a laptop. My main use for it would be gaming on the go. I have a powerful desktop rig that I use for hungry titles like Doom Eternal; I would mostly use the laptop for Runescape, MTG Arena, Warcraft III Reforged and maybe some CSGO or Starcraft II. I'm not too worried about it being a "gaming" laptop. I'm happy to play 1080p/60fps. I'd rather something lightweight that that I know is going to last me for years. I've heard bad things about people buying powerful gaming laptops that only have a lifespan of 12 months! Thanks for the advice

It amazes me how many people don't understand that this video is a fully funded commercial for Micro Center. Linus even says it in the video! This is just a fun, mutually beneficial business exchange between LTT and MC, not some sort of flex or personal wealth ego project.

Heads Up - Avoid PC Case Gear!!! (Australia)
Consilium replied to Buyer_Beware!!!'s topic in General Discussion
I've been buying all of my pc gear from pccg ever since I got into computers back in 2011 and I've never once had a problem. Sorry you're having a bad experience. Is this the first bad experience you've had with them?- 35 replies

Here's an interesting idea for a Techquickie: Why do some technologies hold up over time better than others? For example: I still use my Dad's old B&W hifi stereo that he bought in the 80s and it sounds excellent, but I would never consider using a monitor from the 80s. People still use IBM Model M keyboards and love them, but you wouldn't use a projector that's more than a few years old. Food for thought!

I'd definitely do some more troubleshooting before trying to RMA your whole machine haha -

Have you monitored your cpu/gpu temps to see if anything is overheating? Also, I know you said you think it's not your PSU, but if you could switch it out for a mate's one and test with that you could definitely rule it out.
