  1. Hey guys I'm just looking for some second opinions on my buying dilemma. Looking to buy a used video card off Kijiji and I cannot make a decision. My options are: - Zotac GTX 1050Ti 4GB listed at $180 CAD - Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 4GB listed at $180 CAD - MSI RX 470 4GB listed at $200 CAD Some other important information is that the power supply for the system is a 500w Rosewill unit so I have some doubts about the R9 290 using that psu. Basically I wonder if I should go for a newer card such as the RX 470 or 1050Ti, even if it is a little bit slower just for the fact that they are a newer architecture and perhaps have better driver support. Any insight you guys can give is appreciated. Thanks!
  2. Nah he is buying it new. He already ordered the parts so there is no going back for him. he is convinced that the 2500 is holding back his GTX 970. I tried telling him otherwise but I think he also just wanted to upgrade for the sake of upgrading.
  3. Damn, according to google with the conversion rate that is like $220 CAD. Guess $180 is a pretty solid deal.
  4. He is upgrading to an i7 7700K. Also guess I should have mentioned, I am the one looking to buy it. My girlfriends sister is wanting a pc to play games like Overwatch and he is selling so I figured as long as the price is reasonable it will be a better deal than buying new.
  5. As the title says. My friend is upgrading and therefore selling some of his old parts. He has an Intel i5 2500, a z67 mobo (not sure on the manufacturer), and 8GB of G.Skill DDR3 ram. He offered to sell it all for $180 CAD, but I feel like that is a little steep for hardware so old. I was thinking more around the $150 CAD mark. Just looking for opinions.
  6. I would take that game off your hands. *Cough* I mean its for a friend. My friend wants that game...
  7. Dust will build up faster in the PC, but other than that its no big deal and should be fine.
  8. Trust me if there was another viable option for an ISP I would change. Right now my family pays $60/ month for advertised Mbps down. The same ISP has an "extreme package" which is 5Mbps but that is not available in my area. My only other option would be 5Mbps with a 50GB monthly cap, but I don't want to get a data cap. Welcome to rural Saskatchewan lol. Anyways I suppose you are right, but I just hate how Windows 10 hanldes updates. I wish it were as easy to manage wen I actually wanted to update like it was in Windows 7 but oh well
  9. Is there any way to stop this from happening? Also I still see that windows is trying to update when I go settings > update and security > windows update. If this keeps up internet in my house will be unusable for days if not weeks lol
  10. How would I even do this? As far as I know updates are forced on windows 10 and you cant simply not accept then. The only method I know to "kill" an update is to trick windows and set your connection as metered.
  11. So for some background I have had windows 10 for half a year or so. One of the first things I did was I set my connection to metered so that Windows could not perform automatic updates. My download speed is 1mb/s when I'm lucky and windows downloading updates makes everything that uses internet unusable as it eats up all my bandwidth. Setting the connection to metered has worked for me before, but it doesnt anymore. Today I signed into the windows store for the first time to download an app to play .flv videos. Anyways after logging in I noticed that my internet got immedialty unusable. I restarted my pc and out of no where a login screen popped up before I got to the desktop. (It always just booted to the desktop before). This is annoying but not the big issue. The issue is that even though my connection is set to metered Windows is still downloading updates. I cant find a way to remove my windows account from my pc, and how to stop windows from downloading updates. I really dont understand why simply singing into the microsoft store would cause all of this.
  12. Yup, people on this forum are correct. Assuming this PC is for gaming, the single threaded performance gains of the i5 will give you the best performance of any of the options listed. I think he is just fanboying.
  13. I had to buy a splitter cable like this in order for me to use the mic on the headset. Otherwise it simply wasnt detected. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B0058DOWH6/ref=oh_aui_i_sh_post_o2_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  14. Should work for sure. The 750 ti was made for situations like this.
  15. Ok so I got curious and found this. Looks like in English text the "$" is meant to come before the amount, and in French text the "$" comes after the amount. http://www.bt-tb.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca/btb.php?lang=eng&cont=075
