  1. Another tech channel started testing CPUs for Stellaris for turn length: I think a Linus channel should do the same. Just keep some advice in mind. Everything can run Stellaris early and mid game fine. What people really want to know is how well the CPUs run having to clog through the late game with a max size galaxy and no Thanos to snap the 100,000 unique pops in half (and all the other things which are unique to the stellaris bottleneck). I would also suggest a second test doing the same but with a save file also using tons of the most popular mods...since almost everyone uses lots of mods.
  2. Err...be prepared for Malwarebytes to finish its trial and start annoying you endlessly to pay money for premium, you will also have to go through considerable trouble to remove it.
  3. Ah snap....I had it for both port 80 and another port to eventually test encrypted. So yeah, I had this, but typed in the last number wrong. Thanks!!! I even forgot how to get to that menu after using it for an hour yesterday.
  4. ARRIS DG2470 <- Router modem hybrid The inet is a picture copy pasted from SSH connection from my main computer after calling up IP information. I have no idea what the two mean.
  5. New install of Nextcloud via Snap onto my home server. Above is my IP information (Don't care about security yet, and this is for practicing so hack me, go ahead, gives me real experience) Set up a DDNS on FreeDNS, wanted another service but my Arris...only handles old services telperion.mooo.com A 24.155.229.50 The above number being my public IP (come at me bro, see how much I don't have) Above is in my arris, the UN and PWKey are what I use to login to FreeDNS. --- I believe I am using Port 80...though now that I go back an check, the location where I can view and change that seems to be missing? What am I doing wrong?
  6. Mostly true, but I believe Spectrum is playing the 'good' guy and will cost less than half of what Comcast does upfront. Not saying what is best, but giving an option. I totally don't work at Spectrum and cannot say that it is trying to be the least evil overlord.
  7. If you have to keep spectrum, go to your neighbors and petition them to sign a petition saying if Spectrum brings fiber to your location they will sign up. If you have some 25 or more signatures, and there's a fiber line nearby, they will extend it your direction. They are always laying down more fiber, just usually they don't know where it will be worth the price. If you have a petition saying people will buy, they will probably move your direction.
  8. I used ifconfig to look up the IP yes, that's the IP I used in the description of my troubleshooting in the OP. Turns out...just for repetition I tried the basic straight IP again today...worked fine. I think there's some kind of lag or refresh issue happening, because when I mounted my new HDD's...they seemingly weren't mounted, until I checked back on them many hours later, then suddenly with no help on my part everything worked. Seems like the same thing happened here.
  9. Greetings, Been searching for a solution across google for an hour now and cannot find one. I have to admit...I know little about how local IP's work and when someone says localhost and more than one computer is involved on a LAN I will have no clue as to what the standard context this is. My first guide said to just put the IP address of my server into my browser, nope. Another had the IP/nextcloud, nope. Another added http://, still nope. I just need help finding my way to the Admin page for nextcloud. I am running nextcloud on snap, fresh install as of an hour ago. Linux is whatever 18.# was new a month ago. All updated and upgraded to date (bar a couple which won't but thats a project for another day) This is embarrassing, but possibly need someone to explain what I am doing wrong in baby steps. I know quite a lot about computers but most everything is self taught, lots of tall mountain and lots of valley's and those valley's are often where most people would presume mountains to be.
  10. So, I finished my hardware building of my home server and installed Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS. Everything works fine, installed the Ubunutu desk-top for a GUI and then I googled for the proper way to turn everything off and typed in sudo poweroff. Slid in the graphics card so I could use a different screen instead of the VGA one I was required to use because Mobo only has stock VGA, plugged in power for card. Try to turn on and boot. Lights on motherboard light up, but no boot and no fans. So I google and troubleshoot via these common solutions: Turn the power off and unplug, wait for a time. Doesn't help. Check all power cords to make sure they are seated correctly. Doesn't help Reseat Ram. Nope Turn power off and unplug all power cords from everything, pull out the video card, reseat ram, do not put VC back in. still nothing Check and see if turning it off somehow fried the CPU, looks fine. Other relevant pieces of information: Mobo has two lights which tell me it is getting power. No beeps and no special blinking. Mobo: https://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon/C600/X9DRi-F.cfm I am still assuming it is a hardware issue unless somehow the poweroff command is different than I thought it was? -------------- Edit: Solved, the PSU's poor little heart gave out after a single boot.

  12. Indeed, and I guess I was not clear enough in my opening statement (It's a common issue I am working on). There are multiple versions of Ubunutu, which one is most recommended. There are those two readily available for download, but there are also about ten other versions available if one digs deeper. Presumably, the two most easily seen are the two I should pick from.
  13. Seems like the fans will be on 100% of the time and I won't be able to lookup data on the fans as well, I think I will avoid directly plugging them into the PSU.
  14. I am 98% finished building up the hardware for my server, just finishing off making sure the air flow will be smooth. So I am transitioning into looking at my software options. I already decided I wanted to go with Linux so as to force myself to expand my lower-intermediate experience with linux and working with a real-time processor. I also feel like Ubuntu will be fairly good to use based on reccommendations...however.... I google versions of Ubuntu and come up with about a dozen in recent years, many apparently being updated concurrently and are seemingly different entities. If so...I would like opinions on which version will do me good on a server which needs as much freedom and compatibility with "everything" as possible. Or, is there a different version of Linux anyone here would recommend, please write a 20,000 word essay on why it is best.
  15. Er...in that case is there an adapter for fan power lines to the much much larger ports on my modular PSU? Even if there is I'd rather avoid adding in even more stuff to my PSU so I can keep those options open for currently unused PCI slots and 6+ additional HDD's eventually going in.
