1. My Bitfenix spectre 200mm case fan that I have plugged directly to the motherboard does not spin up when the computer starts. I have it at the front of my case, and if I manually spin it a little, to start it up, it will then start spinning. Is there a fix to this or is it time to buy a new fan?
2. Hey. I have an odd issue that I can't figure out. I'll explain the issue and then explain what I have tried and hopefully someone will know what to do. Issue: Every time I turn on my computer, the mouse does not turn on. I've tried different USB ports, but it still does not turn on. However, I am able to get the mouse working again by completely uninstalling all of the drivers, installing the drivers, running the firmware update, and then it works again. I am not talking about my programmable keys not working, or the profiles. I mean every click on the mouse, and even the mouse itself, does not turn on with my computer. This is odd to me because I've never seen a mouse that was not at least partially "plug-and-play". Also, I have to unplug and replug the USB port just so the computer notices the device, and then the device will fail to install after I plug it in. This is a brand new mouse that I just bought, so an important thing I wish to know is that if it is some software issue, or is it a hardware issue, because I am still in my "return" window where I can just return it, rather than RMA.
3. all i took from this, is this was not a well done giveaway to attract traffic in the LTT forum. should have made a 5 post requirement or something. edit: i meant that it could have been done differently to attract more continuous traffic instead of the people that only log in for the giveaways and such. Sorry. 1-time poster means they posted 1 time in that forum -- as in they didn't post multiple.I think the stat you were looking for is: The number of posters in the giveaway with a total post count of one: 5101 aka 72%
4. If money was no object, I would get one of those ridiculously expensive raid cards, find the fastest SSD, and RAID 0 like 20 of them, just for the lolz. EDIT; o_o. after a quick google search. looks like its been done before.
5. Perhaps the better question is what is the Specs of the First PC you ever built? Mine would be: Core 2 Quad 6600 EVGA 8800GTX EVGA 780i Motherboard 4GB (2x2GB) of Cheapo Ram 500GB Maxtor Hard Drive Windows XP Antec 900 and like 10 10,000,000 RPM fans, because I was crazy back then. Higher dBA directly correlates to superior performance at LANs. Everybody knew that.
6. Hit the gym. Then come back and tear the 24pin a new one :P More serious answer: Try using a plier to keep the clip detached on the 24 pin. There are probably one or more pins that are jammed into the 24 pin connector on the motherboard. Try to find out which ones are jammed, and see if you can use tweezers or something to unjam them.
7. My favorite is when their computer breaks and they bring over their monitor asking me to fix it :)
8. I feel like they should introduce better technology rather that warrant us spending MORE money on ram, rather than just raising the price on existing products. Even if the better technology is just flashy heatsinks or LEDs, its still better than nothing =)
9. My first PC is older than me -_-. No idea on specs haha.
10. Buy eight splitters. Daisy chain the crap out of them Boom. Mind Blown. http://amzn.com/B0012IYLMM
11. Because they can. =( I think what'd be cool is if manufacturers started bundling RAM & SSD. (since a lot of them make both). That way they don't have to overcharge for RAM because you are choosing their brand for the SSD and RAM. It would probably make a lot of people on the fence of whether or not they should get an SSD for their system to splurge and buy one because of the bundle deal. Ram = required, SSD = optional in a computer build, so I think it'd be smart. i.e. Corsair, Kingston, Crucial, etc,
12. That sounds about right.... if they were giving away 10,000 prizes :p
13. My guess for why he wants 800W: He plans on winning 2 GTX Titans in giveaways, and doesn't want to upgrade his PSU.
14. I've skipped optical drives ever since they switched from IDE (the ribbon cable) to SATA. Never missed it. If i really need data off an optical drive, I use my clunker laptop that running a Centrino processor and network that optical drive.
15. I think that them commenting is great in itself even though they barely know what they are talking about. That means they are "somewhat" interested, and if you ELI5 to them, maybe they will become more interested and join in the pc hardware community. The more the merrier.
16. If you wanted to upgrade, you can just upgrade your graphics card to a 7950, pop in an aftermarket CPU cooler and overclock the 930, and an SSD, and you can play pretty much any game at 1080p. i7 930 is still a viable CPU for gaming. The performance jump from 930 to sandy to ivy were all incremental steps. The 500W Power supply should still be able to run the 7950. Check which 7950 you buy, and make sure you get a molex-> 6pin adapter (if it doesn't come with it) With that extra cash, you can buy some more games, buy a nice 1080p ips, buy some booze, eat some fancier food, etc.
17. I ran a script to roughly get the total number of entries for the 3960x and motherboard giveaway to see what everybody's chances are of winning. 18. May as well go for 8. If you have to learn a new OS, may as well learn the newest one. Most people's complaint about Windows 8 is how it is different than Windows 7 and hard to adjust to it. If you have to adjust anyway, may as well get used to 8 so you can get used to 9 easier in the future. "New is always better" - Barney Stinson.
19. APU is intended for budget and power consumption, not performance
20. Test stability with some torture tests. If you don't mind frying your balls off if you are playing on your lap, if it is stable, its probably good to go.
21. Yeah. The Spectre Pro Series of fans are great. I have a couple White LED 140mm ones. My recommendation is to get the PWM versions. I had 1 non-PWM version that had trouble spinning up when undervolted. That is, of course, if you consider noise as part of performance. Otherwise, full speed on both is the same.
22. Every manufacturer has a DOA rate. My opinion is that they are low enough so that I would just buy whichever brand is cheapest the day you buy it (whether that be from mail in rebates or a sale. Or pick the one that you like the looks the most.
