  1. Thanks, I think my concern was how PIP or PBP worked. I have now seen proof of it working with two separate devices. As you can imagine I didn't have much confidence when the Samsung rep told me that the technology to display 2 input streams simultaneously "does not exist" When watching the two linked videos you can see that there are 3 configurations available for PBP: 2x[16:9], [21:9, 11:9], [11:9, 21:9] Which would be fine for the use case of what I'm focusing on one display or the other but it would be helpful to still see the other. As for G-sync or HDR running in PBP as I'd only be doing this when working most of the feature set is unnecessarily anyways so likely wouldn't have then enabled during work hours PBP. Otherwise I'd make sure they're enabled when running singularly from my Gaming machine. I currently have a 22" 1080p 60hz & 1x 24" 1080p 120hz monitor. Both were cheap and have lasted me a hell of a long time. I am now ready to seriously invest in an upgrade. My initial choice was the ASUS PG279QM which appears to me to be the best 1440p (non-ultrawide) monitor available but for 2 of them its the same price as the G9 neo for me so I started looking into the options. I also like to future proof myself, after running my current monitors for so long I'd like to think my replacements will have features that I can benefit from in the future hence the greater interest in the miniLED version with HDR and the local dimming advantage over the 10-zone (which honestly looks pointless). I think after reading your comments and some other factors I will wait on this until maybe January time and see how it goes, maybe i'll get the PG279QM instead. Thank you for your comments very helpful!
  2. Never mind after some more searching on the interwebs I found these 2 videos (one is an odyssey G9 the other is a CRG9, so slightly different monitors): CRG9 in PBP - Odyssey G9 in PBP - This answers my questions enough, Looks like I can accomplish the dual monitor functionality of having 2 separate display inputs display simultaneously (it should be mentioned I called Samsung support to ask this question and they literally told me "the technology you are inquiring about does not exist"). On an odyssey G9 you get 2x 27" 120Hz monitors and on both you have some limited configuration options which do exactly what i want, I can change the format to give me greater real estate for the machine I am primarily using at the time. (sliver screen for music as mentioned above).
  3. Hi All, I'm looking to upgrade my monitors and i'm torn between 2x Asus PG279QM or 1x Neo G9. I think i'd prefer a Neo G9 overall but honestly there's some key questions I cannot find the answers to that would make me instantly regret a purchase of this magnitude. I almost always use my Home PC and Work PC concurrently, thus having two monitors currently works really well for me as I can have my work PC up on one whilst my Home(Gaming) PC is up on the other. I use an external USB switch to switch my KVM input to either machine at a button press. I guess my Samsung G9 Neo questions are simply: Can I run 2 separate PC display inputs as split screen using PIP or PBP? Is the split screen formatting configurable, i.e. i might just be using my Home PC for music at the time so i'd only need a sliver of the screen real estate. Does this multi PC configuration cause any issues or stop any features. I'm expecting G-SYNC/Freesync to go out the window but this wont be used whilst working anyways, anything else however? If you can think of any other pros/cons which might help me decided between a G9 or dual-monitor please feel free to share. It appears after browsing the forums and reddit that my use case seems pretty niche most people only display 1 PC on their Ultrawide at a time and most questions similar to this regard the virtual monitor or fancyzones on 1 PC, This would be my first ultrawide experience and I have to admit losing the display customisation of dual monitors is kinda frightening me for the £1700 price tag. I wish there was somewhere I could test drive an ultrawide but my local PC stores never have any connected up to PC's only displaying demo's.
  4. Have you tried everything from this thread? I have and it didnt make a difference for me unfortunately but might help someone here its a good checklist: Also found this on a different thread and thought it honestly could be the answer for me given I power my PC through an extension cord, plug it directly into the wall or through a UPS:
  5. I've basically tried everything applicable for my new RTX3070ti from this thread: This was a great idea for myself, given i run my PC from a surge protection extension cable. I could easily see how when its trying to draw power from the extension cable there's a small trough in supply as it tries to catch up from the wall. However I plugged my PC directly into the wall and still no dice, I get full system crashes (seems like power crashing) after a few minutes of gaming. Anyone got any other ideas? I've seen another thread where someone had to RMA and they manufacturer (or store i dont quite remember) told them it was definitely defective. I've emailed ASUS for support, hopefully they can help otherwise i'm going to have to RMA, still within 14day period from store i bought it until July 6th. PC Config for anyone who see this later: i7-7700k (OC'd to 4.8 Ghz, have tried disabling no effect) 2x8Gb DDR4-3200 Corsair LPX RAM (XMP Enabled, Have tried disabling no effect) ASUS Tuf gaming OC RTX 3070ti (Previously Gigabyte windforce 970). Gigabyte Z270 DS3-H Mobo Corsair CX850M 850W PSU (2016 version before anyone says its the "bad one")
  6. Not what I was hoping to see, I just got an RTX3070ti and I get basically the same crashing issues as you, I can play certain games for an amount of time: Sea of Thieves for approx 20 mins, Warzone for almost an entire match, Metro 2033 redux crashes as soon as I click "Continue" and Final Fantasy XV after about 3 minutes of gameplay (think it depends on area). Been scrolling through forums for answers before posting a thread but looks like other have had similar issues and RMA'd PC Config for anyone who see this later: i7-7700k (OC'd to 4.8 Ghz) 2x8Gb DDR4-3200 Corsair LPX RAM ASUS Tuf gaming OC RTX 3070ti (Previously Gigabyte windforce 970). Gigabyte Z270 DS3-H Mobo Corsair CX850M 850W PSU (2016 version before anyone says its the "bad one")
  7. Thankfully the companies primary workload is handled by a third-party app that handles timetables, meetings etc. Only a small but growing subsection of the company is administration work. Even then The server would be hooked up to a UPS and some paper based working is still done and work can be continued in this form should the server go down. The Proof-of-concept server I am currently trying to build is using the cpu for graphical acceleration. At the moment the i7-3770 seems to handle 2-3-Vm's perfectly fine but these are low resource as just proof of concept. For the final server I would expect to be building off of an old xeon workstation, something more built for a solution like this. In which case i would expect a GPU to handle the graphics especially as usage of the server increases. Reading your post, I am going to investigate RDS but also go back to the drawing board and re-evaluate the scenarios. You are possibly right and this is over kill and there may be another way I have yet to fully investigate. In terms of money savings, I've worked it out (in the short term admittedly) that at 4 users the cost for non-vdi vs. server solution is near identical whilst for 6 users the server is most cost effective; as the users increase the server solution becomes more cost effective. There's also other advantages to a server solution i did not mention such as it would be easier from my point of view to be able to control each VM and what the user has access too. Rather than having to take a laptop or desktop away to fix, reimage or setup when a new one is needed. I do already know there are other ways of making my life easier is these respects is just seems like this solution helps with a lot of it at once.
  8. Hi all, I have been helping out a family small business. They have recently expanded their office with 3 rich(thick)-client PC's and are looking to further expand with more employees in the near future. To help save on cost I am helping them with setting up a virtualization server. The cost savings in buying a single server that could run 4-5 VM's then only needing to buy a thinclient and peripherals when someone needs them. I have set up a proof-of-concept server using an old i7-3770 rig I had laying around, installed ESXi and created some windows VM's. I bought a HP thin client that I have set up using openthinclient software to network boot into the thinclientsoftware. The next step I am having trouble bridging: How to deploy this server so that the thin clients connect (RDP) to the correct VM? I ideally would need a login page for the user to log in and so that user has access to only their VM whilst using any thin client. I have no idea where to start with this or what software to use. I have done some digging and it seems like this step between having a working VM and a connected thinclient are skipped all the time. Just to note I have manually RDP'd into a VM via thinclient using the IP address (something like windows remote connect tool or similar) but I am looking for a more user-friendly, secure way to connect. Just to point out what these VM's need to do: Each user is not technical-literate hence the insistence on windows VM's, ensuring familiarity. Each user is doing simple office/admin tasks that require Microsoft Office, so only looking at dual core 4-8Gb per user. We do not yet require remote(outside of office) working arrangement so I am not even considering this at this stage. If you have any questions I am more than happy to answer them
  9. TLDR; I'm looking to build a server to run 4 Windows VM and RDP in via thinclients. How do I license each Windows 10 install on the VM's? I'm trying to draw up a proof of concept for a small business of my family member. They have recently had an increase in employment and are struggling to get suitable laptops/desktops for each employee. Currently there are 2 Offices in different locations, 4 employee's per office. The 1st Office opened has 4 Desktops with Intel Dual Cores (unsure of exact model), 8Gb RAM. The newest office currently only has 2 laptops one of which being a private one only my family member can access. All Office work is administration, so Office apps and more intensive above that use case. I dabble with homelab virtualization projects and believe that the growing needs of this business would be perfect for a server VM configuration. I firstly plan to only deploy a single 12 or 16 Core server at the first office and moving the existing desktops to the new office. I plan on buying some older intel xeon workstation (preferably with 2 sockets) so that I can upgrade to more cores in future if we need them. I'll use ESXi to manage and create the, currently, 4 VM's and plan to either ebay some refurb'd thinclients or use WTWare on some Raspberry Pi's to use as thinclients to RDP to server. The one issue I am currently struggling with, with homelab i just create a VM for Windows 10 Pro and do license it because its a throwaway VM Project, in a business I'd have to license each VM. How would I go about doing this? I'm so confused by the Windows Server Licensing and this appears to be a replacement for VMWare ESXi, it is also very expensive and appears to only cover 2 Window Pro Vm's? Feel free to share any other information you think i may have missed in all this too? Added note, I do plan on eventually added a VPN to the server so that i could also use it to RDP from the 2nd Office as employee numbers grow. As it currently stands im more interested in replacing the 4 Desktops in Office 1 with VM's that have 3 cores each and 8Gb RAM each with possible expansion in future by making everyone dual core or upgrading CPU's down the line. BTW by dual core i mean 4 vCore as in 2 physical 4 threads.
  10. Built my mother an PC for her office a while back, decide to use Ryzen as a cost/performance measure. Saw that I could get StoreMI for free with 4xx chipset mobos and decided, hell why not try it out. I've been regretting that decision with every Windows Update. Every time W10 Updates it blue screens for one reason or the other. Each time I have to spend hours troubleshooting, having to travel the 2 hours to get to my folks. This time round all it needed was a simple boot loader assignment within the BIOS and a BIOS reset, but last time it required a near full re-install of W10. I've attempted to untier the drives with similar results to @Mathieu9836 any further help on this would be highly appreciated! AMD's user guide for StoreMI states that you need to use the "Remove Acceleration" option however I do not see this option anywhere. Even after moving all files to the "Slow media" drive.
  11. Yeah i did my best to double check that this wireless USB is compatible and I found plenty of places saying they had no problem with it. Due to the problems I have experienced i'm looking into PCIe wireless cards or m.2 adaptors as you said as i have a m.2 wireless card but not the antennae. But as the motherboard is ITX and has only 1 PCIe 16x slot and no other PCIe slot I'm kinda refusing to to buy one as I'm planning on using the PCIe slot for a gpu at a later date.
  12. Hurrah!! someone has an answer for me finally after months!! This thread: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1067513/ubuntu-18-04-1-and-tp-link-archer-t4ueu-v2-0-nightmare-rtl8812au-chipset The last answer from RedEye links to this repo : https://github.com/Red-Eyed/TP-LINK_Archer_T4U_v3 I cloned it > make clean > make > sudo insmod 88x2au.ko AND NOW IT WORKS! I'M SO HAPPY!! EDIT: It didn't take me long to realise that the install wasn't saving when rebooting, so I'd reboot and have to re-insmod the driver. Fixed this by following the install instructions in the pdf file of the repository.
  13. I had this almost exact issue with my recent Ryzen build, for starters that CPU doesn't have an iGpu so you need a dedicated GPU in order to boot. I'd recommend reseating everything. RAM, GPU and CPU. Remember to unlatch the cpu before trying to remove it, i'd recommend this when removing the cooler as well as my stock cooler took the CPU out of the socket with it still being latched in (This was with stock AMD thermal paste which is obviously more akin to glue than paste). Luckily I didn't damage the CPU and I learnt my lesson to always unlatch before even attempting anything with the cooler/cpu. you can check out my thread on it here, but i've already given you the TL;DR (Also mobo wasnt DOA) :
  14. Right, so i finally got my wifi adapter recognised. My Wifi settings panel now enables me to turn wifi on and off and select a network. However no networks are found. I don't know if it helps but this is the result of my current dkms status: $ dkms status rtl8812au, 4.3.8.12175.20140902+dfsg, 5.0.0-13-generic, x86_64: installed rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux, 1.0, 5.0.0-13-generic, x86_64: installed ...Soooo.... Anyone got any ideas on why I don't see any wifi networks available? Is there another driver I should be using? I'm now at a complete loss; still. Sick of using my mobile to tether just want to use my linux machine to watch Twitch and Youtube in peace dammit! EDIT: will try this tomorrow : https://askubuntu.com/questions/1045765/usb-antenna-not-working-on-dell-optiplex-760-desktop/1045927#1045927
  15. Thanks ! I didn't realise ubuntu had its own rtl8812au driver so I hadn't tried it. I'm surprised no one had mentioned it online when I was looking for the driver. I managed to remove the offending driver but this hasn't made my PC see my wifi adapter still. The Ubuntu rtl8812au-dkms installed without issue but still no wifi adapter found. I'll look online to see if I can find a way to fix this online but if you or anyone else has any idea that'd be good! LTT Forums always the greatest help!
