Hi, So I have a Define S for a few years now (3xP14 front+ the two stock fans back and top) and was wondering if anyone who went from the same case to an airflow one with mesh front (P500A and co) noticed big enough drops in temps (CPU+GPU). I feel like airflow leaves a lot to be desired even with the added fans. When I put my hand behind the front P14s (spinning at around 1085rpm) with the front panel + mesh installed for example I can barely feel the air moving. CPU is fine (5800x @82-85° in Cinebench R23 with a Macho rev.B) but my 3090 FE is hotter and louder than I'd like. GPUs temps being on the hotter side compared to people with similar configs (save for the case of course) has been a recurring theme since I got this case and the number one reason I'm looking at a possible change. I tried using a side intake but it didn't really make a difference under load Thanks!

It's kinda crazy to think so many give this blanket "advice" I have no idea why or how Seasonic got this god tier status but it's spread worldwide, same deal here in France and all over the Internet really "Need a PSU? Buy a Seasonic" who cares about the model or your personal needs, they're all perfect in each and every way I've been hearing this "advice" for more than a decade and it's still going as strong as ever...

Went ahead and bought the RM850x v2. I don't doubt that the DF is a quality PSU, it was my first choice (and it being cheaper was just a bonus, not the main reason at all) but I'd rather take the seemingly safer route with the RM850x. Emphasis on "seemingly" as I've seen nothing that made me think the DF wouldn't be up to the task but it's just so much easier to find "success stories" with the Corsair as they're more popular. Also had a RM550x in the past that powered a 6700k@4.5 + 2080 with a 300W vBIOS without issue (pushing it I know...) and the thing was very quiet while doing so, so not in completely unknown territory. It was my first choice but the risk of tripping the OCP is putting me off. Well I don't even know if it will be a problem with the DF in the first place to be fair (saw a post on pcpartspicker with someone with a similar enough build who had no problems https://pcpartpicker.com/b/mQK48d ) No FE or FTW3 3090 though, "just" a XC3 Sample of one I know but then again I haven't seen anything that made me think there'd an issue with Rev DF handling RTX 3000 (save for Jonnyguru's more broad comment about most multi rail PSUs and 3090s) MSI says on their product page that the A850GF can handle RTX 3000 GPUs and, I might be wrong on that, but I think it's using the same platform as the DF (?) https://us.msi.com/Power-Supply/MPG-A850GF

So I've been thinking about it some more and reading more posts here and on tomshardware's forum and I see some people recommending going even above 850W PSUs for builds similar to mine because of the crazy transients that some 850W PSUs handle just fine while others don't. The question is which 850W PSUs do and which don't and while I thought both the ones I'm considering would fare well now I'm not so sure... I mean there's an example just here about a HX850i having issues in multi mode and I also found someone having problems with a RM850x here, which is supposed to be fine with the new high end RTX 3000 / RX 6000 (no idea about the version but they bought it for a 2080 Ti build so I'm guessing it's a v2). https://linustechtips.com/topic/1332924-problem-with-3090-ftw3-rm850x-combo-and-possible-replacement-advice/ So all that to say that I'm now looking at the new RM1000x for 171.90€ on Corsair's website. To be honest I was leaning towards the DF before making this thread but this talk of potentially tripping the PSU is making me reconsider... The reason I was leaning towards the DF is that the price difference is in fact bigger than the prices I listed. To get to 130€ for the RMx I'd have to use a 20€ coupon (that I could use for something else if I choose the DF) I'll think about it a little more but thanks to you both for the replies!

Hi, I've been looking for a 850W PSU for a 5800x/3090 build and, after looking at reviews/cybenetics data/forums and what's actually available (and at what price), narrowed my search to these two. By all accounts both seem like fine choices but I was just wondering which one you'd go for. The Corsair is 130€ and the Enermax 120€ for info. Thanks!

For the same price would you take a TUF B550M-Plus or B550 Aorus Elite v2? (mATX format not needed but I don't mind it either)

Just curious, what's the reason for putting the TX-M over the RM? Now I only have veeeeery superficial knowledge about PSUs, but just comparing the data from Cybenetics the RM seems to me the better option in pretty much every category. It doesn't have all Japanese caps but i'm guessing that doesn't matter that much as long as the ones used are also good quality and rated at the same temps (or is that not the case?)

Definitely worth replacing imo. Again, group regulated PSUs are (or should be at least) a thing of the past. You also don't NEED to get a Tier A PSU if your budget is tight, any decent modern PSU should be a big upgrade over a S12II for a modern system. A Corsair CX is already far better for example (edit: well this one's not modular, but a good Tier B PSU should be just fine is my point).

It's both old and group regulated. I'd get a new PSU for a modern system.

I finally found a buyer for my RM550x so it's time to buy the new one. Was leaning towards the Enermax when I made this thread, and MrBrightSyde's reply helped confirm that it was a good option, but still looked at some alternatives in the meantime (all 750W) Whisper M 750 98€ Revolution DF 105€ (would have to wait for early October as it's not available at the moment unfortunately) Toughpower GF1 112.90€ RM750 119.90€ (There's also a Gigabyte GP-P750GM for 80€ but I'm not sure about that one, not enough info...) Now I'm thinking of going Bitfenix. Would any of the others be worth the premium? Thanks

Well I was planning to get a new one anyway but still I'm kinda curious to know if using a RM550x with a 3080, if it appears to work fine, could even be a possibility long term (for someone who'd play around 1-2 hours a day on average)

Yeah I think I will. And let's say it works just fine, could I consider sticking with my PSU or should I still look to replace it?

Thanks for the replies everyone. 150W for CPU seems way too much I haven't seen it go above 95W and that's in OCCT with PBO enabled. Right now I have a GT710 (I know..) and the absolute max system power consumption from the wall I've seen while running the OCCT power stress test is 164.4W

Hi, I was wondering if anyone tried a 3080 on a (good) 550W PSU? I know that the recommendation is more >=650W but could you get away with less with a less power hungry CPU than used in most reviews (10900k/3900X/3950X..)? I have a R5 3600 + 16GB DDR4 + 2SSD + 1HDD + 5 fans and a RM550x v2 that could run this config with a 2080 OC on a ~300W power limit with no issues So, in the one in a million chance that I score a 3080 before I sell my 550W (basically zero interest from people..), I was thinking why not use it? I'd be running it at pretty close to max capacity so it wouldn't be a long term solution anyway but I'd be very interested to see if someone tried something similar with a sub 600W PSU. Thanks.

Hi, I'm in the market for a new PSU for a 3080 based config. It will be paired with a R5 3600 (for now, a beefier Zen 3 upgrade is likely), B450 Tomahawk, 16GB DDR4 3733, 2 SSD / 1 7200RPM HDD (all SATA) and 5 fans (2x140 + 3 x120) I have a RM550x v2 for now, and while it might very well be fine with everything at stock with a 3080, I'm looking to upgrade to a 750W PSU as I'm sure I'll want to overclock the 3080 and push the power target. After looking at different models I'm debating between the two in the title. (both at the same price around 100€) Also looked at other alternatives (RM750x/750, Toughpower GF1, SP11...) but they're more expensive Looking at the data on Cybenetics the Enermax has a more relaxed fan profile but the Whisper M has a longer warranty and, I remember reading, very good build quality. Slightly leaning towards the Enermax but was looking for other opinions on the matter by people who own either one or, even better, compared them. Thanks!

Assuming you're talking about the 2080 SUPER EX, definitely go with that one if the price difference isn't that big. It's a very solid card. The Aorus will of course be slower and is pretty hot and loud.
