I'm still running on my galaxy s7 from 3 years ago, and am still paying on it to own. Discovered that you can now buy a brand new one for around $200 to $250. Depreciation is real.

Make sure you keep enough in your budget for peripherals, if you don't already have them, or a decent monitor they will definitely eat away at your budget as well. Try looking at your local online listings on craigslist, or facebook market. I've gotten great deals on used hardware there, and you can find great deals that you won't find on online retailers.

Absolutely, now that I think of it, with the uprising of the video game streaming services, Stadia, it might be a viable option for the future, especially with it being cross-platform, and easily stream able from multiple displays.

Long-time viewer and huge fan of LTT, first time poster and member of forums! This is my budget PC build. I would love to upgrade in the future, but it handles 1080p gaming on high to ultra settings easily, only struggling due to GPU bottleneck on newer titles. I haven't dipped into overclocking, but might look into it following guides here on the forums. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, thus the clone figures, but after adding RGB fans, can change the "theme" as I want. Not a bad machine for gaming, especially since the motherboard, CPU, and RAM were given to me by my employer as he was having issues getting it to post, but had already bought a replacement by the time I got it working. Definitely looking to upgrade in the future if I ever have the extra income.
