    dabockster got a reaction from DasMalkavian in Folding@Home CLI Flags
    Hey all,

    I'm looking for a good guide on the various CLI flags for the FAH client. I tried searching the Folding@Home site but most of their docs pertained to either the web interface or the advanced GUI client. I'm exploring the possibility of running FAH in a headless config that can be scripted for server deployment.

    For me, it's the fragmentation of Linux. Each distro is essentially its own OS. They all may have the same brain (the Linux kernel), but they each behave very differently. And the whole "if you don't like it, fork it" thing really doesn't help.

    Right now, I've been liking Pop! OS. It feels like a what-if version of Ubuntu had they not launched Unity in 2011. Great driver support, great multimedia playback, most stuff just works, bare bones GNOME for maximum compatibility, and good meta packages for proprietary drivers if you need them. Modern Ubuntu still has way too much stuff left over from Unity, which still causes things to break. I also used to like Linux Mint but Cinnamon has similar problems.

    So yeah, the thing that keeps me on Windows is the fact that it's open enough to build stuff on but not split apart into Horcruxes. Linux is an engineering masterpiece, but I don't think it's fair to consider each distro compatible with one another.

    dabockster got a reaction from mxk in PSU With Lowest Ripple
    Hey all,
    My two year old EVGA 650 GQ has some serious ripple going on. It's causing my GPU to coil whine and will sometimes even transfer the whine into my headphones. Since any RMA would leave me without my computer (I have a laptop, but otherwise that's it), I am forced to buy another power supply with less ripple.

    So which PSUs have the least amount of ripple? I was looking at the Seasonic Focus Plus Gold line, but was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions.

    I'm not too concerned about the transfer speed. I'm mostly transferring Word and Excel files and don't want to rely on Dropbox or Google Drive when I can do it myself.

    dabockster got a reaction from xg32 in PSA: CROSSHAIR VI SOFT BRICK ON 7002 BIOS
    Heads up guys, the Crosshair VI's new 7002 BIOS will cause a soft brick upon updating if you're coming from a BIOS older than 6903. This includes versions 6808 and 6401. So if you want to update for Ryzen 3000 support and you're on a BIOS older than 6903, you'll need to sequentially update to 7002.

    Eg 6401 -> 6808, 6808 -> 6903, 6903 -> 7002

    If you have already attempted a "jump flash" and got a soft brick, the USB flashback feature may or may not work. The ASUS ROG forums had some posts mentioning the BIOS flashback button not working (basically full bricks) after the update. My own Crosshair VI was able to restore back to 6401 after the 7002 soft brick, but results may vary.

    Hope this prevents some headaches and stops you guys from buying new boards.
