  1. Oh ok cool, thanks. Maybe I'll just go with him and get a bag after his birthday. He is notorious for damaging stuff, so that'd be the priority. I'll look into those canon lenses, the soviet ones seem a bit outta my comfort level. I'd rather just tell him about them and let him figure it out. Thanks again.
  2. As far as I can tell SDXC isn't compatible. It's was released 12 years ago. I've tried to look at bags, not sure if most dslrs are the same size because nothing comes up when I search 450d camera bag. I will look at those lenses but I'm in Canada so it might not pan out. Thanks for the advice.
  3. My brother is getting a used Canon 450D for his birthday. I know nothing about photography but want to get him some related gifts. This is his first DSLR so he doesn't have much gear for it. His fiance has mentioned he wants to start bird watching/space stuff. I'm more inclined to get him general purpose gear because it seems like he doesn't have a specific use for it yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've already bought 2 batteries, and a memory card case. I plan to get him a few SDHC cards because all of his are SDXC.
  4. I don't need better headphones, I'm fine with the current ones. I just figured it wouldn't hurt to get a combo unit vs just a DAC. The problem is most likely the onboard sound card and I'm not interested in replacing it or RMAing the laptop. Using a different splitter doesn't help, and using the combo jack on my phone or PlayStation doesn't cause issues. The intention is to have something that will move to a new setup once I build a desktop. I'm just interested in something that has a .25" or 3.5mm output and a 3.5mm input put. It doesn't have to be $200. I don't really know audio gear and that's just the upper limit of what I'm willing to spend.
  5. I'm fine with my current headphones. So I would just need to find a DAC with mic input?
  6. I'm looking for a DAC/AMP combo unit with a mic input for ~$200 Canadian. The pinned post recommends a Schiit Fulla 2 but Amazon doesn't have that anymore, in Canada at least. Is there something similar? The 2 uses for it would be: Vmoda Crossfade LP with BoomPro Sennheiser HD599 SE with no Mic, as the BoomPro cant connect to it. The onboard audio on my GS63VR is getting bad. Plugging in the mic now causes the headphones to buzz. Eventually I will get a desktop mic but it seems hard to find one that wont pick up the fan noise from a gaming laptop.
  7. Awesome, looking forward to confirmed dates! Thanks.
  8. @CPotter Are you guys getting close to finalizing the dates for LTX20?
  9. If you DM @Infensus he can can add you to a facebook messenger group we have for Samesun. There are 4 of us in it now. I wont be there until tomorrow night, around 10:30.
  10. I've had a GS63 for a couple years now, it turns into a jet when I turn a game on. I'd like to see how the added thickness helps with cooling on yours.
  11. Thanks, I'm most likely going to get this one. Don't forget your Kensington locks either. Just got that on in yesterday. Fits nice and tight. Not about to try and rip it out of the socket to test it though.
  12. Nice, I'll probably swing by and say hi. I'm flying from Penticton.
  13. In the discord it was mentioned that there is an 8'-10' tube and drape partition. So you wont be able to see the stage.
  14. I'll have my Pro Tech Toolkit with me. I'm sure a lot of other people will have theirs too.
  15. @Infensus oh wicked. I've never stayed in a hostel so I opted for the shared bathroom private room.
  16. I'll be flying in from Penticton Friday night if anyone wants to hang before the event. I'm staying at the Samesun Hostel until Monday. I'll also be at the BYOC.
  17. I'd rather buy new components for warranty purposes and Id also still have to get a wireless card to solve the original problem. As far as their website goes Asus doesn't have an ITX prime board with WiFi for LGA 1151. Thanks, I'll keep the 1030 in mind for the old parts. Hmm, oh ok, I haven't really consider Ryzen, I usually stick with Intel but I'll take a look at it. I'll have to look into the codecs more, I'm not that knowledgeable on them, thanks for the advice.
  18. Hi, I'm planning on upgrading the desktop I built for my mom 5ish years ago. The primary reason is she will need WiFi soon and instead of adding a wireless card I'd rather upgrade the core components. Her current system includes: i3 3225 Asus P8H77-I 2x4GB Corsair DDR3 2x1TB WD Blue Corsair semi-modular powersupply (maybe a cx500, I cant remember) BitFenix Prodigy I'll be adding an 860 evo 500GB this weekend, making it the os+programs drive, and using one HDD for storage and the other for backups. She has a small book keeping business which is the desktops primary use. Also something of note is that when I originally built it I installed 32 bit windows because I was an idiot. So I have to reinstall windows anyways so I figured I'd combine it will the SSD install. Currently the plan is to go with an: Intel i3 8100 Asus ROG Strix B360-I Motherboard (I'm partial to Asus and its not too expensive on Newegg canada) 2x4GB DDR4 (whatever is cheapish at the time of purchase) It's a pretty basic upgrade but is there any other boards or processors I should consider? What could I do with the old hardware? Would it work for an HTPC or something? Thanks in advance for any advice.
  19. @Amforev Sorry I'm not the most proficient with my audio terms. I was assuming a usb sound card was a DAC. Is something like this my best option? Eventually I will build a desktop so I'd like something that I can carry over to that
  20. What DAC would you recommend? I have an MSI GS63VR. The headphone and mic ports don't work also the middle usb port (same PCB). I use vmoda headphones with the boompro mic. I'm thinking under $200 but that's flexible. Also what have you guys done to help with loud laptop fans in game. I don't want to annoy other players. I do use a moniter as my primary screen so I can relocate the laptop a little. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  21. Hey, I started undervolting the 6700HQ in my MSI gs63vr. Using XTU Ive got it down to -.200 while doing a 5 min stress test between voltage drops. When I test with XTU I get a CPU temps around 72C. But when I test with Prime95 it sits around 90C to95C. Is it normal for Prime95 to be so much higher? Ive never done any under or overvolting before so I have no idea. So far Im only 30 mins into the Prime95 test, my intention is to run it over night. Thanks
  22. Ok so if using an external drive is the best then there is no way to automate it?
