  1. I have no hands-on experience with either the new or older versions of Shield, but to my understanding - they can actually act as a Plex Media Server? I currently have a windows machine running PMS that I stream to a Plex App in my LG 4K TV running webOS. ( the same OLED tv Linus was demo'ing gsync with ) Even though the machine is strong enough to handle any buffering, I prefer direct streaming but unfortunately sometimes subtitles force it to go into transcode mode instead. I'm wondering, if I have a shield at the TV connection, and it pulls the media from a NAS instead, will it reduce overhead or perform any better? Since it is the actual local client being played, and not PMS ---> Plex client?
  2. I thought I had seen/read something about the possibility of taking what is already “auto captioned” then simply cleaning up text (is that even a thing on YouTube studio?) but this sound far cooler and could, in fact, even be a topic itself for LMG to discuss in a video! I’m deaf and I do some film editing and yet I’ve never heard of using Watson in collaboration with captioning, that is so cool.
  3. With this information, it looks like what you're looking for is a monitor or TV that supports PIP (Picture-in-Picture) as others have stated. I would do more research in this if I were yourself, as some monitors may have varying levels of PIP luxury. Some could only do 2 screens with vertical split in the middle, some could do 4 pictures, etc... and you also have to consider how the computer is going to deal with the screen resolution / picture change, resolution-wise. Will it maintain a sharp picture or will it scale down/up and look bad?
  4. OLED panels are susceptible to burn-in, so if you were using it for a desktop environment where the task bar is always at the bottom, icons in the same place for extended periods of time, etc... it could result in screen burn-in. Someone else can correct me if I am wrong - but this is the case with most OLED TVs. I own the latest model of LG's 65" OLED tv (not the specific model with a LOT of burn-in complaints... just a year model after that one!) My TV has a pixel-shifting feature, and another feature where you can schedule it to refresh pixels across the board the next time the TV is off. (takes a long time to run) So, I'd just go with a 1440p / 144hz IPS panel (or VA if you prefer). As far I've known, only CS:GO gamers prefer anything above 144hz and they are hardcore. Most would argue 144hz is the sweet spot for 1440p because you have to keep in mind these are more frame rates your video card has to generate and keep up with the refresh rate.
  5. Wait, so what format are the home videos in? Are they VHS tapes? Have they been digitized to video formats such as .AVI files or .MP4 files, etc... ? or do you have DVDs? either way: if you have tapes, you're just gonna have to get the appropriate player (DVD player for your DVDs if that's what you have) Also, you mentioned a "service USB" port. Does the port literally say "Service"? Because that makes me suspect, due to the age of the TV you implied, it's not actually just a standard USB port, it may only be made for reading service firmware / software updates, etc...
  6. What about the $5 steam link (that nobody seems to use anymore)? Would that actually serve the purpose you are seeking? I'm sure it would be more reliable than a poorly supported/coded TV app. I think? I haven't touched my steam link in many years.
  7. I've been watching LMG for many years, but as a Deaf viewer (and I know there are many others like myself who try to enjoy LMG content)... I'd really love to see the LMG team pay for captioning on YouTube so I can better absorb all the content. A lot of the lingo, words, names, and such, do not really come out as clearly as it should through YouTube auto-CC. With precise captioning, I can really enjoy a show and whenever I see a channel with actual CC, I almost always sub. But I've subbed to LMG for a long time, relying on auto-CC and filling the gaps with my own knowledge. It does not cost too much to pay other companies/teams to CC content for your videos, especially when your channel is a large one like LMG. Just saying - I would love to see accessibility some day. Some videos just do not have auto-CC to begin with, so I have to pass on these videos completely.
  8. I could see an use for transparent monitors in classrooms in school / college. That way, you can see further up with less obstruction, because in some classes I've had at college, they had 27" monitors that were tall. They obstructed the view even though I would sit up in front. and being Deaf, it was hard to find a sweet spot. I usually had to pick a spot where I could see between two monitors.
