  1. as we all know, linux installed system76 and then proceded to install steam, which led him to inadvertantly delete most of the operating system. as posted by LTTForum member, @grg994, the maintainers of the code repositories for apt have agreed to modify the code to prevent this from happening so easily. Their solution is to add a console shell `flag` when executing the `apt-get` executable. this flag is now required if a user is sure they want apt-get to continue on with its original behaviour. the flag is `--no-auto-remove`. My problem is that it's not 1337 enough. My solution: apt-get should ask a mathematical problem and require the user to solve it. is this metal or no?
  2. i disabled the rx570 in windows device manager, but then the rx590 stops after a reboot and the AMD software won't run before a restart. any ideas? thanks
  3. just looks like a conflict to me, or maybe something crashing. maybe change the settings of all devices that have a dhcp server to make sure they are not using the same ip range. 192.168.*.*, etc
  4. is there only one dhcp server running on the network?
  5. oh right, so before i added the rx570, i bought a new corsair HX1000. could be an issue but i have no issue while using linux and mining. what do you think? looking at the photos, it's kinda dusty. maybe i should've cleaned it before installing everything. meep./
  6. my machine randomly crashes after i added a new corsair hx1000 and a second hand rx570 for mining. when it crashes, there is still an image on the screen, but no USB power or audio. a single press of the power button powers the machine off instantly. only crashes when running windows. usually when using the rx590 a lot. below is all the info i can think to share. let me know if anything else is needed. very much appreciative of any help, as i'm a programmer, not a builder. 7. I have a Radeon™ RX 590 GAMING 8G (rev. 2.0) Works fine in windows. When I boot into MacOS Mojave, i can use the machine for about 5 minutes before the screen goes black. I noticed the fans never spin. I know the fans aren't meant to spin when under a certain temp. But they never spin. How do I trick the fans into spinning all the time or at a lower temp? thankyou
  8. i think i will need support for the gate, so something like this: https://www.bunnings.com.au/easyroll-100mm-55kg-load-swivel-gate-castor_p3940262 Will the hard rubber last on the dirt and the weather?
  9. I want to make something to let my parents open and close their gate when they drive through. It's a hinged swinging gate on a cattle property. The driveway is dirt, rocks and grass. There is no power supply currently. I don't particularly want to use petrol. I'll post photos of the gate next time i am there. Has anyone seen a similar project or have any advice on where i should research this? thankyou
  10. Thanks both you guys for the assistance. Should I get those magnetic dust covers and put them over the vents?
  11. awesome reply. thankyou! 1. How were you able to tell which PSU model it is? Colour me impressed. 2. When I touch the dust on top of the PSU, it feels sticky and doesn't want to come off easily. Will compressed air deal with that? 3. Some of the cables mystify me. Can you tell if all of them are necessary and are in the correct place? And where would I plug in the additional fans? 4. Great advice. I will source that cooler. edit: i can't find the 212 EVO, is the 212X ok? or something else at my supplier https://www.umart.com.au
