  1. My friends 4770k would go up to 100C instantly when turning on and benchmarks running at 4.2 GHz and 1.2V. Dropped to 82c when I changed the voltage to 1.1. all on a 212 evo. See what temps you're getting with 1.3 and take it from there.
  2. The 1070 will be a better call for running future games at max settings, if you say cost isn't an issue. But, a 1060 6gb will be fine for the time being though. You can expect the i5 6400 to bottleneck you a little in some poorly optimized games if you are going for 100+ fps, but should be fine for the most part.
  3. any hard drive SHOULD work fine in a NAS. The nas rated ones are just recommended because they are designed for 24/7 operation and have generally better thermal performance. Just don't put any WD Greens (or any other "low power" drive) and you should be good to go. Keep in mind though that a lot of NAS manufacturers have a list of "approved drives" and wont provide you with any support if you use drives not on the list.
  4. Everything looks totally normal to me. Windows 10 will use all the ram it can sometimes for no reason. Your system is showing as 8GB useable, and it just happens to be using more than half of it. The only possible problem is that you have too much stuff running.
  5. On the top pic, I think u got them right, with the last one being firewire (if your case has a FW port on it. The second pic shows what look to be PWM fan connectors. At the end of the day, the connectors are all keyed so you cant plug them into the wrong things.
  6. WTF is peoples problem with VGA. It is more than capable for the task at hand, and really the picture quality is the same as a digital signal long as the cables are good and plugged in properly. If its the only option without having to buy a GPU for his moms computer, use it. It will make 0 difference.
  7. Try VGA. VGA is actually capable of carrying higher than 1080p signal, but since it is analog, interference may prevent you from doing that. If that doesn't work, literally ANY graphics card with a DP adapter will do. Like go find one for $25 at your local store or something.
  8. From what I have seen on t'internets, any system with a Thunderbolt 3 port will work with products like the Razer Core. Even though it is not "officially supported" YMMV though.
  9. 1440p 60hz over HDMI shouldn't be a problem. Also definitely shouldn't be a problem with a regular DVI cable.
  10. The best way of getting rid of all the windows files from the old drive is to first back up what you need onto another drive and then WIPE the old HDD and start fresh.
  11. You re-installed windows, but did you COPY the files from the old drive to the new? I always recommend keeping your pictures, downloads and videos on your HDD and keep your SSD nice and clean for programs and stuff. Also, that way if you decide to re-install windows again, you don't have to back anything up, just wipe the SSD and all your data is safe on the HDD.
  12. "losing" by a few points is within margin of error. As said above, check to see if you have other programs in the background using up your cpu cycles. The voltage you have is safe as long as you keeps the temps down, but it is much higher than I like leaving my cpu. For comparison I have a 3770 (non-k, but multiplier overclocked to 4.3) running at a constant 1.2 v with no problems.
  13. Some poorly optimized games will bottleneck, but then again they would also bottleneck an overclocked i7. For the most part, you should be just fine with a 6500 and a 1070.
  14. If anything, lower your voltages man. Also what makes you think its underperforming?
  15. You are on a tiled floor, so you're fine. Ground yourself by touching the pc case often enough. Keep your dog away from you while building. Grounded PSU means that when your PSU is plugged in, your case is grounded. This is true for all PSU's. Wearing shoes (or anything buy socks) is a good idea, but since you're not on carpet, don't worry about it too much.
  16. 8GB is barely enough. Given how cheap ram is though, I would suggest going with 16, especially for a new build and if you're running other applications while gaming.
  17. yup, mini-atx might be a typo if you see that anywhere to refer to mini-itx. how you tell the difference is that mini-ITX has only 1 PCIe slot on it.
  18. You can clip anything onto your phone with a clip (or duct tape), but you still have to plug it in to charge. Do you really want a worthwhile battery bank (lets say 10 000 mAh) clipped onto your device, when the battery itself weight 4 times as much as the device youre holding?
  19. "Mini-ATX" doesn't really exist. It was a standard but was replaced bt Micro-ATX (mATX) Mini-ITX is a thing and its smaller than mATX.
  20. RIP, I haven't had my coffee yet. Yup, OP, that PSU should be totally fine for your purposes.
  21. RAM speed makes very little difference in most things. It has recently been brought to my attention that RAM speed can make a difference in games like GTAV where CPU optimization is terrible (but only when you are getting into 120+ FPS. 99% of the time, RAM speed makes no difference so just get whatever is cheapest, from a reliable brand.
  22. The question isn't whether A 650W psu is enough, but more of WHICH 650W is good enough. Not all PSU's with the same rating are capable of the same performance. Let us know which specific model you are looking at.
  23. Use extension cords hooked up to outlets on different circuits, and try to limit each circuit to 4 computers just to be on the safe side. Have a sweet LAN party bro.
  24. If I'm not mistaken, playing in borderless enables v-sync, even if it is off in your game settings. (I could be wrong but I seem to remember hearing something about this)
  25. I don't know how to calculate this stuff, but a camera could be pulled by pretty much the smallest hobby motors you can find. They don't really weigh all that much, especially without super long glass on it.
