  1. If the magic blue smoke comes out of the electronic device, the voodoo spell escapes and you device doesn't work anymore . Then you need to buy new device from voodoo store while the staff chant cryptic specs of the device to cast the voodoo spell. Or have I been misinformed how electronics work?
  2. Got boinc docker running in my unraid server, it has only Xeon E3-1220v5 and can't use all cores for boinc. Need to see if I can get my test/junk machine running, I think that has i5-3450 so it should have more power than my server and it can use all cores to run boinc
  3. Looking overclock.net folding gpu chart. The 980ti is more powerful than two 780ti's and should use same amount of power than single 780ti. If I had to vote on these to option I would say 980ti
  4. Are you using encryption on the RAID or on file transfer, and have you checked what the NAS says about CPU usage on file transfer. Encryption needs a lot of CPU power and if used may cause slower transfer speeds, so checking CPU usage might be worth it. Even if CPU has hardware support for encryption, it still effects transfer speeds.
  5. To get a benefit of WiFi 6 you need to have network that can support those kinds of speeds, most home WiFi 6 routers still have 1Gbps Ethernet ports. So if the motherboard you want has WiFi 6 it's a bonus, but I wouldn't make getting WiFi 6 support a priority.
  6. See if your router has the latest firmware, quick look to netgears update release notes and I find this "Fixes the issue in which the upload speed behind the R7800 can only reach one-third of the actual speed for some ISPs" So start with updating the firmware on your router if its not the newest version. What does Windows report as the speed of the Ethernet link, it should report 10Mbps, 100Mbps or 1.0Gbps. If its lower than 1Gbps try different Ethernet cable. If that doesn't help. See the settings of your network adapter and router, one of those might be forced to be 100Mbps connection. Check the cable between gateway and your router, some times the Ethernet cable supplied with the device only has 4 wires what supports 100Mbps max.
  7. 147th, not bad with single reference style gtx 1070. On average it produced 724k PPD. And maybe now after almost 12 weeks of running F@H 24/7 I will finally use my "new" GPU for gaming ?
  8. My understanding is that there was server in Finland with management software that gave access to the server, but the data that goes trough the sever was encrypted. That is what I know about this thing. And nothing is free, if you don't pay for the service the provider gets it's money either mining all the data out off you it can or flood you with adds. Probably both.
  9. According to folding forum posts issues with Navi GPUs lies with fah core 21, issues are probably fixed when core 22 is released. Currently it looks like they aren't going to patch core 21. So for now Navi owners have to wait for core 22 to be released. https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?nomobile=1&f=83&t=31710&start=75#p309220
  10. I have found device that can mask my folding rigs noise, my 3d printer with A4988 stepper drivers and LM8UU bearings. It's currently printing new parts for upgrade, it will take few evenings to print all parts. When I have the parts ready it will be getting 32bit board with tmc2209 drivers. LM8UU bearings will be swapped for sintered bronze bearings and polymer bushings. Should make the thing much quieter.

  12. Regarding AMD Navi GPUs and folding It looks like we have to wait for FAHCore_22 to get support for these cards. https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=31710&sid=f43632ba95f787e73cff7ad08c4d7913&start=75#p309220
  13. For price per GB HDD wins but with off-site backup, HDD get more expensive as I need to retrieve it first and then return it after the backup is updated. With discs it's just one trip to drop them off. I have done my research on positives and negatives on different storage options, I have HDDs for local backup. I am asking advice on software to get some automation to my backup solution, not on the media to use.
  14. Thanks, not quite what I'm looking for. I'm searching for backup software that can do incremental backups to optical discs without altering previously made full discs, if a program that can do this even exists.
  15. I tried to find solution for my question with google, but most results were how to backup dvd to hdd not other way around. I currently use Blu-ray for my off-site backups. I used to do folders where I store my pictures, when it reaches size of a disc I burn it to a disc. Then I create new folder and start to fill that up. Now I'm planing to backup more than just the pictures so I'm searching program that would work with optical discs. I need get files that I can burn to disc and when updating the backup it would only touch the newest disc until it reaches size that I can burn to a disc. So I don't need to burn ten disc on every update. I have used couple backup programs for linux but only with external drive or to cloud service. So do you have any suggestions what aplications I should try?
  16. So far I haven't seen any problems with project 14180 and my GTX 1070. Estimated PPD is around 730k PPD in the control panel, there are other 14*** projects that show estimated PPD to be around 660k. I am quite happy with with these results, did find that that I can only push my card to +150Mhz on core resulting 1999MHz core clock. Not pad for reference style GTX 1070 with only touching core offset and fan locked to 85%. I did test GreenWithEnvy, but so far basic NVIDIA control panel in Linux has done its job well.
  17. If I did my math right: Our team got ~284m points after the server fix in one update. We produced ~55m points in updates before and after the fix. So with four updates our production should be ~220m points. So with rough math we got ~64m points from the QRB fix as a team. leadeater alone got ~ 43m points and there is another user in our team that got ~18m points, he hasn't folded for weeks. So these two users got ~61m points of the ~64m points, so the rest of us got something but it might be impossible to tell that from the normal fluctuations of PPD
  18. This might be the case as there are users that haven't folded for weeks and got points today with zero WUs. So the WU count might be correct for the day but the points are from way back. Edit: here is one user with zero WU but with points https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=814224 If this is the case, then it just got fixed for a bad time in regards of this event.
  19. I was just reading that post, currently I can manage without two cpu cores folding. That wasn't very efficient to beginning with. Interesting thing is that it worked for days without a problem, today I did reboot my system to plug in my second SSD. Back to GPU only.
  20. I added cpu slot in FAH when the event started. It worked fine a while, today it started acting up. Getting interupted error in the log, rebooted the system this morning. That didn't help, in my case the cpu slot isn't anyway necessary. So I can make without it.
  21. There is a problem with EOC updates, your rigs are probably OK
  22. If you desperately need to check your PPD, you can check your points from https://stats.foldingathome.org and compare it to EOC stats. Stanford stats points - EOC points = points you made during the server proplem.
  23. It had it's 20 year birthday last year. https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/matrox-g200-celebrating-20-years-of-graphics-excellence.html So I would think answer to questions like "does it run Crysis" or "will it fold" is "Oh you youngest and your VR headgears, when games had some content and dial-up modems ruled it did run nethack just fine" ?
  24. I did some maintenance to my server at home, that made me realize that I should probably start saving money to build new PC. My server is newer hardware than my gaming pc, server has xeon e3-1220v5 and ddr4 memory while my "gaming" pc is i5-3570k with ddr3. Then again it might soon be priceless antique piece of hardware ? I would use the server for folding but it's integrated matrox g200 might not be up for the task.
  25. Had problems with cpu folding. Removing and adding it cpu slot back fixed the issue. It was giving these lines on log multiple times:
