  1. That's the unfortunate thing. Beneath the personal and upset language of Steve, there is a degree of validity and truth to his points and it is good that the importance of quality is raised. But when it's packaged the way it was, it results in an inappropriate reaction of the community and the response to the feedback more likely being one of rejection than consideration (though I'm sure LMG takes the core of the points made to heart).
  2. Nobody probably cares about yet another comment on this but because of just how ridiculous this discussion is I felt like I had to try and make at least a small contribution. While the core of many of Steve's arguments has validity, I cannot shake the sense of him being overly harsh and personal. He's making himself out to be an objective, documenting hero who is taking tremendous risk when many of his arguments and most of his language is anything but adhering to the professional ethical standard he likes to set out. "Incompetent, immature" just to name to examples which are not at all conducive to affecting the change he claims he seeks. To then go ahead and intensify that personal language in a follow-up video whilst cherry-picking sentences from Linus' response in this thread makes me want to take opposition to Steve's stance even more. In the here response Linus talks about efforts to improve processes, how that's a challenge and how it's equally an ambitious goal. I hat to use the term hypocrisy but Steve going after Linus' conflicts of interest because of sponsorships are the same for everyone and anyone in tech youtube. Without sponsorships by tech companies the space wouldn't exist and we'd all be worse off. Yes, the points raised are concerning and need to be adressed but what else is there to do? Awareness has been raised, the message has been received that the errors don't go unnoticed but to go after LMG the way the undertone of both videos does, isn't helping anyone.
  3. The camera with it's own button and of course the dedicated video "button" are just brilliant considering that mostly if you want to take a pic with your phone it needs to work quickly and I therefore don't want to bother with navigating through menus and such.
  4. Thx for all those quick replies! On the first point... I know that one can have extremly bad luck with processors but I kinda have a hard time believing that no stable overclock is possible at all... or rather I can believe it but I don't want to. So now I'm indeed running memtest86+ let's see what it's gonna tell. UPDATE: First pass of Memtest done. No errors reported. However it says RAM: 652Mhz (DDR3-1305). Considering that all the sticks actually support frequencies of up to 1600Mhz I am not sure if there is something suspicious going on with that.
  5. I believe it's a brilliant device especially due to it's versatility! At least for me... If connected to a TV it basically provides a console experience with PC games and graphics using the Nvidia Game Streaming technology. At the same time it works as a smart TV and while Chromecast is a beautiful thing, having a complete android experience on your TV is something else. Kinda reminds me of Googles set top box thing which they announced at I/O ..I believe it was called Android TV. Except in this case you just use your tablet instead of getting a whole new device. But I believe that's not the only application for the mini HDMI port. You could probably even connect it to a beamer and use it for a presentation. ... Even though I don't know if there's any app support for that yet it probably won't take long since the hardware is there. Furthermore I believe that tablets of that form factor are as Linus already said when refering to the stylus brilliant for students. I used a Nexus 7 for a long time to simply display scripts at University but with the integrated and apparently well functioning stylus and the reasonably sized and shaped screen it could probably even resolve the clutter that note taking is at the moment since smartphone notes are honestly not the greatest way to go. Another great application for this are I guess conferences or minor meetngs. I use to go to so called MUNs which are simulations of the United Nations where you work together in committees in order to attempt to find solutions to international issues. There I need to take a ton of notes (during other people's speeches, for my own speeches, ideas for operative clauses in resolutions, things I wanna talk about with others, and so on and so forth. There I easily collect like 20 sheets of A5 paper everyday with tons of random notes on them. Using the tablet for this would be just awesome. So yeah there we are... I already sold my Nexus 7 and am waiting for the Shield Tablet to finaly release in Germany in 15 or 16 days... Great and honest review though! (y) Anyone anything on battery life?
  6. Hey guys, I'm having some issues with my system but I can not tell which part causes the issues. Basically there are two problems. The first one is the fact that it is not able to maintain its overclock (Even only 100Mhz). No matter wether I do the canges in the BIOS or through AMD Overdrive or the ASUS AI Suite, after turning the computer of it requires multiple attempts to turn it back on again which already introduces the second problem. It turns on for a few seconds, the fans spin, nothing appears on screen, and it turns itself right back off. After multiple attempts then it works but the following message is displayed: "Overclocking failed... Press F1 to enter setup". So then I enter the setup, set the BIOS back to default and now at least I don't get the overclocking failed message anymore. However I still have issues booting into Windows - at least on the first booting process after reseting the bios. It turns on for a couple of seconds, then turns itself off again. After that however it boots in a stable way and the issue doesn't occur anymore. For my understanding there can be multiple parts causing the issue. The CPU, the motherboard and the PSU. Here's a list of the parts I use: CPU - FX-8350 (maybe a year old), cooled by a Corsair H100i Motherboard - ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 (pretty new) PSU - Corsair TX750 (a couple of years old - the power should theoretically be enough but maybe it's broken or... something) Gigabyte Windforce GTX 780Ti 16Gb of Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM 1 Samsung 840Evo 250Gb 2 1TB HDDs Unfortuantely I don't have a spare powersupply that is powerfull enought to put in there and even though I have an old AM3+ 6Core somewhere if possible I would like to avoid switching CPUs... Does anyone of you have any idea towards what kind of failiure those sympthoms could point? I'm relatively desperate on this right now to be honest.... Really appreciate any kind of idea thx in advance guys!
  7. Nah Ncix doesn't even carry it unfortuantely. Probably gonna need to engage some friend then... Yeah it only works with the ASUS VG248QE and I believe also the VG248 which is the predecessor if I got it right... that's the monitor Linus showed in his first G-SYNC monitor showcase. Here's the Nvidia store link though: http://international.download.nvidia.com/geforce-com/international/pdfs/NV_GSync_DIY_Install_Guide.pdf EDIT: That was the installation guide this is the store page: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync/diy
  8. Hey peops, having a ASUS VG248 I was wondering if I couldn't upgrade it with a G-SYNC module. As it turns out - theoretically I can. Practically though it's not possible since I live in Germany and Nvidia only ships the DIY KIT to North America. Do you guys therefore know any retailer over there who would ship it over to Europe? I know some guys over in the US but not that good that I would ask them to buy a 200$ piece of tech and ship it to me so a shop would be the prefered option. Greeting from Germany Alex
  9. Hey Peoples, thanks for all your helpfull repliess!Especially the hints that it might be GPU related - it was indeed! I've been monitoring the GPU using GPU-Z earlier on already but nothing really exceptional was to be seen except from the fact that the cores mostly didn't exceed 40-50% load - even in games. Having tried all kinds of drivers, reinstalling windows and what not I finally got around to exchange some parts with a friends PC and I also got my hands back on my old 660Ti. So after switching the cards back and forth I noticed that the Nvidia card did not cause any issues whatsoever while the 7990 caused issues even in my friends PC and my old rig which was sitting at my father's place last semester. Therefore it needs to be some issue related to the graphics card. No idea what but it needs to be something. I also reinstalled BF4 yesterday after reinstalling windows and the whole PC would always freeze in the initial loading screen which mimics the issues I had in Garden Warfare. The issues were immediately gone with the 660Ti as well and surprisingly the performance with the 660Ti is very close to what I was getting with the 7990 which I believe also clearly signals that there was something severly wrong with this thing. What I did then was trying to get stuff sorted out with the ASUS customer support. Horrible experience. They are not to reach via phone cause nobody is ever available and for email support u need to fill in all kinds of odd stuff which creates a stupid barrier. After a while I found a site which said that apparently ASUS doesn't handly graphics card warranty issues on their own but that one should contact the dealer. Therefore I contacted Amazon which has a very very very customer friendly support indeed and within a few hours they replied and told me to send the card in to them and they will refund it. Probably gonna go with a 780 or 780Ti now when I got the money back... ^^ Thanks again for the really helpfull support guys really appreciate it!
  10. Thx a lot for the replies. Yeah I've also come across the M-Audio products and will probably go with the BX5 D2s. Look nice and sleek and seem to provide some pretty decent sound.
  11. Beautiful review! Love the quality and straight up no bs fashion of your reviews Linus. Really like the covers for the HDD area, the PSU area and the included reservoir mount aaand of course those velcro straps .. genious - those are some sweet features that even the already very reputable and popular manufactureres provide. Would have liked some info on how much flex, stability, sturdyness or well I don't really know the word in english the case as a whole has since I'm taking my PC around from my place to my dad's place every few months in university holidays... Keep it up Linus your videos have unmatched quality on Youtube. You know what people care about and what they don't. I think there really is no place for all those "reviews" where people show the specs of something using its box, then take all the accessories out the box slooowly so that everyone falls asleep and then go ahead, take the actual thing out and show all the stuff written on the box redundandly once again without telling anything at all about if there is any use for the product. I went back the other day and noticed how much you developed in that respect... while what I just mentioned was pretty much the purpose of your NCIX videos I truely appreciate the way you moved away from it providing so much more value with your videos.
  12. Hey People, having a pair of DT990 PROs, a FiiO E10 and a pair of rather craptastic logitech desktop speakers... I figured it's time to upgrade the speakers. I have a budget of maximum 150€ so about 180$ and I'm therefore of course looking for a pair of speakers with a good price to performance ratio. I know that for this price I can't get anywhere near to audiophile stuff but that's not what I am either so that should be fine especially as I'm mostly gonna be using it for listening to some music casually, watching movies and stuff like that. So yeah there we go... at the moment it's a 2.0 system and I would probably be able to fit a subwoofer somewhere around my desk meaning if you guys would know a sweet system in that price range with sub included that would of course be pretty nice as well. Knowing the high level of quality in this forum section I am very gratefull for any suggestions or recommendations Greetings from Germany Alex
  13. You mean the 750W can't handle the 7990? I also noticed that my CPU is running pretty damn hot in some games. Even though it is not overclocked at the moment. I'm cooling with a Corsair H100i.
  14. So I checked all the stuff with the following results: GPU drivers are of course up to date. Running Catalyst 14.4. Same issues appear with latest beta driver as well though. Also running the latest BIOS ASUS provides for my motherboard. This does however date back to october 2012... seems pretty old to me. The two HDDs are fine and pretty much brand new. Had the same issues with the drive I used before. I didn't run memtest86 but I ran a program called MemTest4.0. When starting the test I got following report: "Your version of windows limits the amount of contiguous RAM a single program can allocate." Therefore it asked me to run the programm multiple times at once, each testing 2047Megabyte. I just ran it until it had tested 50% of the RAM with no error reports whatsoever. Gonna run it to 100% later on though. Yes there was indeed a dump file however when trying to upload it as an attachment (Even zipped) to this post I get the Error "You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file". Is there any way I can read it and post the stuff as a normal post so that you can see it?
  15. Hey guys, I am having some severe trouble for a while now. While I am not certain wether they are related to each other I believe it is very well possible. Knowing that in this forum there are many very smart dudes I hope you guys can help me. So it appears that all Source Enginge games are crashing into a black screen which, after a few seconds results in my computer rebooting itself. Starting the game in borderless or windowed mode prevents this issue though. Going on with Frostbite 3. Frostbite 3 crashes into a red screen which then causes my pc to reboot itself as well. While borderless mode fixed the issue in Battlefield 4, it also appears in PvZ: Garden Warfare. Here borderless mode keeps the game from crashing into the red screen but as soon as I enable Mantle the game always freezes the whole pc while loading which results in me being supposed to reboot the PC manually. In this case it also doesn't help to change any other setting like framerate or resolution - it always freezes until I turn mantle off and dx back on again. Another issue in Battlefield 4 is, that I can not play it at 144fps. As soon as I set the video settings to 144fps I am back at the red screen of death. I also ran into the red screen issue when trying to play Enemy Front which is running on CryEngine. Again - borderless mode fixed the issue. All those mantle problems in BF4, PvZ and BF3 (I know it doesnt support mantle but also suffers from the following issue) would not be too bad if I could propperly run the games with DirectX. Well there comes another issue. I feel like the DirectX performance simply doesn't match the hardware. The framerates are all over the place and varying drastically from sub 30 to rates of say 90, no matter which graphics settings I apply. I thought it might be caused by the CPU but while I know that it isn't the greatest ever I still don't think that performance this poor is reasonable. My motherboard, the ASUS M5A97 Pro being the oldest part in my system is some years old now but considering that motherboards usually don't have an impact on performance I don't think that's the issue either. I reinstalled Windows as well so it's not cause the system is fucked up by a bunch of old crap. I would be really glad if anyone of you had even a tiny clue to what's going wrong in there. Here are all my system parts: CPU: FX-8350 @ 4.00Ghz (Removed 4.4Ghz overclock too check if it has an impact and for the Windows reinstall) GPU: AMD HD 7990 (Also running stock speeds) 16Gb of Corsair Vengeance RAM @ 1600Mhz 250Gb Samsung 840 EVO with Windows 8.1 64Bit 2 1Tb WD Blue HDDs Motherboard as mentioned: M5A97 Pro I also attached the result of a DxDiag I just ran, for more info. Thx in advance guys Alex
