  1. Try nVidia driver 381.65. Set Multi-Display/mixed GPU Acceleration to Multiple Display Performance mode in the Global Settings tab. Set vSync at "Application controlled", but go to the program-specific settings tab for each game you have and set it to On. After that, force vSync and Triple Buffering for DWM.exe. Turn off Shader Cache for DWM too. Set "Maximum Pre-rendered frames" to "1". Report back on whether tearing has gotten worse, better, or stayed the same.
  2. Link? lmao then ask your mom to give you the money...sounds like its her laptop anyway
  3. What video card you got? Mow some lawns or something. $50 is chump change these days. $100 would get you a backup drive and a 250gb ssd
  4. so how's tha thigh disk usage, high CPU usage, intrusive ads, self-reinstalling adware, and high bandwidth usage goin for ya (looking at you, Antimalware Service Executable)? Locked down as in, more secure than any other version of Windows. I don't play any DX12 exclusive titles. Even then, Vulkan API is on the same level as DX12 and runs fine on 7. You can get a 2TB for like $50.
  5. So is my lifetime multi-user key for Server 2008 R2 Datacenter. Who cares about security updates? Build 760x was the most patched OS M$FT has ever made. It's locked tight, especially after WannaCry and Meltdown/Spectre. 2020 is still two years away and I'm still using 760x.
  6. First. Go into nVidia Control Panel (NVCPL). Then go to 3D settings. From there you will have a list of all the programs that use the nVidia driver. Find DWM.exe and change antialiasing, anisotropic filtering, and Vertical Sync to Disabled or Off. Second: might wanna look into that. 120gb SSDs are less than $40. Third, unplug the power cable. From the laptop. You know, the one you use to charge the battery?
  7. Windows 10 is pretty terrible. I know people will try to defend it but I've been using Windows (and Ubuntu) since 93 - Windows 10 is the worst version of Windows ever made. People think 8 was bad because of the Start Menu bullshit, it's not that bad. Windows 10 is like every previous version of Windows had an orgy and the baby was made of only the worst parts of each OS.
  8. Okay, to me that sounds like a Windows issue. This might sound weird, but disable window transparency, and in NVCPL, force AA, AF, and VSync to OFF for Desktop Window Manager (DWM.exe). You will experience screen tearing when scrolling in Chrome because of this but it might help with daily inconsistency. An even more in-depth way to investigate this is to install Windows 7 on a spare HDD, switch to the Windows Classic theme, and kill DWM.exe's process tree. If you do that at every boot and try fullscreen gaming under that environment and post the results, I will know exactly what is wrong with your laptop. Another thing, my Quadro gets locked to 202MHz when I unplug it [the laptop, not the MXM card]. I'm sure this is a driver issue, but it might not be. Check GPU-Z load clock speeds plugged in and unplugged.
  9. Personally I'd get a Z370 Pro4. Very nice motherboard, not TOO expensive, and I have one sitting on my window sill while I'm waiting for DDR4 prices to drop.
  10. I have a 4790K and a 1070 and play Arma3 at 5760x1200...and in single player my FPS is terrible but in multiplayer I go above 90FPS at times. The i3 7100 and 1050Ti are pretty balanced for most things but Arma3 is very CPU heavy. A quad core CPU like an i5 7600 would definitely help. Also, make sure that the game is set to use the x64 version in the launcher.
  11. My laptop's Fermi Quadro is faster than your 940M. That says a lot about performance, and hell even the GT 740M matches your 940M. Try to find the desktop equivalent, for example, my Quadro 2000m is a lower clocked version of the GTS 450 2GB DDR3. It is a core-for-core version, just clocked at 550MHz instead of 783 to reduce power consumption. It can OC to 720 no problems and I've benchmarked on 750. Finding the dekstop equivalent will help gauge expected performance.
  12. Take a thin rubber band and put it over the tip of the screwdriver. Alternatively, use the tips of a pair of scissors. Sometimes that has worked for me. And next time use Phillips instead of hex, or if that WAS Philips...use better screws!
  13. Take out the battery and the CMOS battery and let it sit for 24 hours with zero power. Try powering it on after 24 hours without putting any of the batteries back in. It sounds like the graphics could be bad, if it's integrated, not too bad if you have a socketed CPU. If the CPU is soldered to the motherboard you're gonna have some problems. My laptop also had some problems, the VGA port didn't work, and random shut offs. Cleaning it and reseating all the connections has fixed it.
