  1. How's the battery life? I'm reading online that I would get about 4 hours but I'm looking for something that I can use throughout the day (like the Dell XPS)
  2. Hey guys. I'm starting college this fall, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I'm looking to buy a new laptop that can run engineering software and occasionally run some games: Here are my "requirements": $1500 max price (slightly flexible) 16 GB RAM 512 GB SSD Dedicated GPU Lightweight Long Battery Life Be able to last 4 years I looked at the new Dell XPS 15, but it's kinda expensive with these specs ($1800+). I also saw the Asus Zenbook Pro 14/15 and it looked pretty good. Does anyone have any recommendations?
  3. I mean Thunderbolt isn't a requirement (changed it), but it's a nice to have. It allows me to use one cable to connect to multiple devices (charger, external monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.). I can't always remote desktop into it, because I plan on using my laptop over the summers for internships (I can't bring my desktop with me). I have a desktop right now, but I need a laptop that I can use that isn't dependent on a desktop for processing power.
  4. Computer Engineering is best for you because you get to explore both hardware (electrical engineering) and software (software engineering/computer science). At most schools it's either called: "Computer Engineering" or "Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EECS)." If you have any other questions, please feel free to message me.
  5. I’m a high school student right now, but I’m getting my laptop for college now. What laptop should I get? Here are my restrictions: - Lightweight - Long battery life - Can run intensive programs (Solidworks, Matlab, Autodesk Inventor, Catia, etc...) - 512 GB SSD minimum - Dedicated graphics card - Max price $2000 but I’d prefer around $1200~1500 Here is a couple wants but don’t need: - 16 GB of RAM - Thunderbolt 3 support
  6. Probably Solidworks, Catia, Autodesk Inventor, Matlab, etc.
  7. I’m currently shopping for a new laptop (I’m going to be a college freshman soon). I’m going to be studying mechanical engineering so many people recommend Windows, but I’m in the Apple ecosystem (and I love it). Do I need a Windows laptop, or can I get by with a Mac?
  8. Is it safe to use an 8700K just to download windows and graphics drivers for a couple hours? My CoolerMaster ML240L is coming on Sunday.
  9. @CPotter Could you guys do a meet up in the San Francisco Bay Area? I know that a lot of people would attend (after all, it would be less that an hour away from the heart of Silicon Valley). Most of those people are students that can't afford the money and/or time to travel to Canada.
  10. I ran out of fan headers on my board. I have 5, and I'm using all 5.
  11. I just realized that they aren't doing anything, cuz they aren't getting any air. I'll just use it as a personal fan in my room
  12. Yeah, thats why I got replacement Corsair fans. I ordered two with my system originally, but ordered two more. So now I have 4 Corsair AF120's and then 2 NZXT S340 Stock Fans
  13. I just got new fans to replace my stock case fans. What should I do with those extra fans? Right now, I just hooked it up to an empty Molex power and have them sitting on top of the graphics card, helping my CPU fan push more air through.. Is there anything better I can do with them?
  14. Thanks. I'll use MSI Afterburner for the GPU, but hb for the case fans? My NzXT fans won't work with Speedfan... so I need another option.
  15. My problem is that I'm running an x5650 in an Intel DX58SO motherboard, and it's really old. So I needed some software to control them, except Speedfan doesn't control the NZXT fans (idk why), so I needed some other option.
