  1. Back on topic, or what the topic should have been, if SanDisk SD cards are suspect, which it appears to be, what is the recommended level for (for example) Samsung? Should we be bumping up to the 840 Evo+ line, or their Pro+ line? What is the line for worthwhile investment (aka - not melting your Switch components or losing your game save)? Almost as importantly, was it the speed class marking that was causing the melting? Are class 3s more likely to run into problems across the board? For reference: Speed Classes on micro SD Cards and Research as to speed of different cards on load times.
  2. Does anyone have some recommendations as to what games to get to start off with VR in? Or what games are good to demo the technology to friends? I'm looking for easier to pick up things that I can use with a Vive that are worth the money, especially aimed towards those of you who have a Vive unit. What are you playing now, what was an interesting experience, but not something that you'll come home and play, and what is something that you look to play coming home from work? Are there any review channels or sites that you actually trust about these types of recommendations? Steam reviews are nice, but I'm not sure how much I want to take of that on faith. I'll edit this or reply and add on my thoughts about what games I find myself coming back to once I get my unit.
  3. Does this only apply to Bethesda workshop mods, or does it also apply to those of us who use ones from the Nexus?
  4. OS: Win 10 CPU: Intel i7 4770k (OC: 4.2GHz) GPU: GTX 980 Ti RAM: 16 GB GDDR3 Score: VR Ready (very high)
  5. I'm impressed on how much of a difference it makes to which GPU is the primary and which is the secondary - I expected a slight difference, but it's a fairly significant gap they have going on.
  6. Like many users, after cracking the first iPhone screen I had years ago, I have come to swear by screen protectors and cases to prevent expensive repairs in the future. However, with the new capacitive touch that Apple is producing in its latest round of iPhones (which other companies are likely to also, ah, be 'inspired by' if it catches on), this brings up something important. The 3D touch, as Apple calls it, allows for some feedback on the screen. I'm really curious as to how this will work with cases or coverings that are used to mitigate screen shattering, as even if Apple is touting a new, stronger screen on the specs sheet [i've had way too much negative experience to trust any phone makers, save Nokai, on their claims of how tough their devices are]. From full coverings like Otterboxes to screen covers like Phantom Glass, how well will this feature carry through? Would introducing another layer of glass protection to prevent shattering dull or eliminate this effect? Have any of the major reviewers (Linus, Austin, Marques, etc) spoken up about doing any investigation into if there are any tradeoffs to be had with screen protectors using this type of technology, and if there are any, whether or not it will be worth said tradeoffs? If someone already has a video (independent, not an advert for a new product line) already up, could someone link it? Frankly, I'm going to be getting a new phone sometime a week or so after launch and supplies are (hopefully) less strained, so I have some time before making a purchase and after the public release of Apple's implementation of the technology to decide whether or not to drop and additional $35 -$60 on a new screen protector.
  7. That smart switch looks like it'd make it really, really easy to swap, compared to hunting down the right apps, but the selective focus is the thing that I would definitely use the most.
  8. Any chance you could run some tests with a pair of Titan Xs in SLI to see how that extra VRAM helps with the sheer amount of pixels on this massive display, or is it the guts of the Maxwell chip that need to be replaced in order to drive something like this at 60 FPS?
  9. I'm not sure exactly how to ask this - are they any legitimate services out on the web that will do penetration testing on a personal identity and let you know what the weak links are so you can close them? I think that I've been fairly careful over the years of what I've posted and allowed to get online, but I'm curious if there are any companies that won't leak your information after the fact that can tell you what security holes they were able to find on you on the web. I've done the standard fare of googling myself and making sure I don't turn up in any databases of posted SSNs or password/username combos; I'm thinking something a little bit more in depth than that. For example, I don't care if my forum name can be linked to my real identity by someone doing a background check on me; that's not my concern. However, I'd prefer to know if one of the forums I frequented back in the late 90s or early 2000s where I may have stupidly entered in my full contact information and not-faked security questions were hacked by bored script kiddies, meaning that anyone who wants to take the time to try to crack current services that don't require MFA can potentially have access to them by password resetting in. The catch is, I don't want to mistakenly hire some anon that's just going to leak all of my stuff out on the web after I've paid them; are there any vetted services that could do something like this that people have used in the past? I would think that they would have to exist for people who want to get sensitive corporate security clearances, but I'm not interested in someone doing that type of interviewing, just working out if I have any weak links in my digital footprint that someone could potentially take malicious advantage of. Any suggestions?
  10. How long did it take you to remove the heatsinks and get everything taped up?
  11. I'd love to have a "Bear Claw" streaming PC to leave in the living room; anyone know if you can upgrade the SSD in the internals fairly easily on a NUC, or is it a royal pain to get in and swap out parts?
  12. After the whole torturing terrorists report bullshit, I personally want to see the US take the high road on this. Is what NK did to Sony shitty? Yes. Could we respond in kind? Yes - but who suffers the most in this? If we were to nuke or bomb the shit out of the country, all we would be doing is reinforcing the brainwashing that those poor people up there are subjected to. From birth they are taught all sorts of frankly disturbing stuff, like how one of the Kims walked across the border to SK and turned hand grenades the enemy threw into pinecones, stuff that rational people would just flat out go "WTF? This asshole is not a deity!" Unfortunately, they don't know better. Imagine if you were told your whole life, from your parents, your teachers, your friends, your TV, everyone, that the world outside your borders was a scary place where people were cannibals who have it worse off than you do, where they would rape your children in front of you given the first opportunity, and you must be constantly vigilant of any devils wearing the skins of your friends who might try to go and join them. All of the sudden, your capital is turned into a mushroom cloud, and enemies start marching across the border, confirming your worst fears that they are coming to get your town now too. You don't know about Sony, about the posturing that NK has been making for decades, because they don't let you know. How are you going to react? Faced with the legions of hell coming to take over your poor village, of course you are going to grab whatever weapons your country, who has been stockpiling for something like this to happen for fifty years, has available and try to take as many of the evil invaders down with you as you can. There is no winning, no freedom for the US or anyone involved if we do this. The best thing that we can do is somehow take over all communications in the country while staying outside of their borders (maybe with some selected strikes at their nuclear arsenal), and bombard them with the truth of the way the world really is over radio, TV, airdrop pamphlets and DVDs, every sort of communication avenue we have until their society collapses in on the lies it's built up for itself.
  13. Shadow of Mordor is the one AAA game that made the cut for me this year.
  14. Am I the only one that thinks this would be terrifying at night, with the whole lack of starlight or even city streetlight glow?
  15. Yes; I mean, I could throw more money at the system, but I don't know how much it would actually affect gameplay. A GSync monitor or a second card for SLI might be nice, but for the games I typically play at the resolution I have? I don't see it making that big of a difference.
