  1. I agree, it does so smart. It might have something to do with your setup if it isn't working. Particularly if it is visualized. Ecc is also just a nice to have. Been running without it at home for over 6 years and I haven't had any problems. Do not over clock when using a storage solution. I had issues when testing if pbo was enabled. After turning that off it has been perfect. Disable over clocks and check your hardware and cables.
  2. While I don't have that many disks and it depends on the iops you need what I have running is truenas with one pool being spinners for stuff that doesn't benefit from high ipos and then an all ssd pool that does for vms and the like. But to convert to that you would need to migrate off all the data to setup truenas. Sort of depends on your use case. The downside with Unraid is you only get single disk performance. Whereas with Truenas it can be multiplicative. On my spinners I can write to them at over 800 mbps sustained.
  3. I would suggest trying truenas scale. That can handle the storage and zfs parts and you can use their built in apps for some things and set paths for them and setup a vm for the game server side of things. I would also put next cloud in an Ubuntu vm and use their aio docker setup as that works very well and can be configured easily for daily backups.
  4. The promotion method is actuality pretty easy. Especially if you are using a pcie hba to pass through. There are a number of guides on YouTube that can guide you through it.
  5. Non ecc ram is totally fine. ECC is a nice to have but unless it is in a higher interference environment it is highly unlikely that it would be an issue. I have had many systems with basic ddr4 ram for years and never ram into issues with any of them.
  6. Decent I think it's relative. A dual core with hyperthreading would be fine for a basic nas.
  7. If it that messed up, probably installing again is going to be your best option.
  8. Since you just built it and there is no os, you don't need to do anything with bitlocker. That you setup in windows to encrypt the drive. In this case I would hit y.
  9. Yeah, the in place upgrade option won't make you lose anything.
  10. This sounds like something truenas would be good for. If you are putting in all the storage bays at time of deployment that is what I would do. To the last reply, TrueNAS scale runs on Debian, so it shouldn't be any issue with supporting the hardware.
  11. If you want to use a regular power supply, something like this would also work. https://www.amazon.com/N5105-N6005-Demon-SATA3-0-I226-V/dp/B0BZ3DJF7J/ref=asc_df_B0BZ3DJF7J/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=674244411766&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11236277927203703382&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1025197&hvtargid=pla-2203384882973&psc=1&mcid=2160a9a6ff053818ab82431250056db4
  12. For how you want to use it on local network, you want to be using SMB. With ftp, you will always need to download the files to open them and can't open them from the server directly. SMB will still show if you disable 1 and 2. SMB current version is 3.1.1 1 should never ever be used due to vulnerabilities and 2 is outdated.
  13. You can just run it just any server version currently available or just on Windows pro though and debloat it. My setup has been running like that for years on a thread ripper system and it has been rock solid and I think it's still considered type 1. Might be wrong about that though.
  14. That looks interesting. Tough it does say 365 day trial license. Do you know what happens after that year?
  15. 8gb should be fine for basic home use. But yeah, more is better for cache. 16 is recommended.
  16. You got the 100$ question correct. Do you want to take what is the best server os for 1000$?
  17. That isn't much to go on. So it's working fine now? Sounds like a bad or conflicting driver. I would check event viewer to see what errors you have there or look into the dumps from the blue screen. https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4065/~/how-to-retrieve-bsod-error-codes
  18. It has its uses where something like truenas wouldn't work. It is shame but I don't think they have a business line to support the operation like others do. That is the only reason that truenas has a free option available given the size of its operations.
  19. This might be worth a watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FhDrux0kCc
  20. Are you directly installing it or trying to use the app from trueness apps?
  21. This is exactly what I have done as well. Windows 11 pro with hyper v and then a vm for truenas and another running services for my server needs in Linux mint. The latter running haproxy, guacamole, next cloud, and pihole.
  22. I haven't really checked the xfinity settings but you might be able to forward ports to a VPN server you setup on the router and then not have to touch that stuff. Or, depending on what you use for your Nas you can run the VPN server on that. My asus router is acting as an openvpn server. Another thing you can look into is either zero tier or tailscale.
  23. That can run as a nas well. If you need remote access to it, you will need to setup a VPN server and forward the port from your router to that server and then you should be and to connect. I also use xfinity. I switched the modem to bridge mode so it doesn't use their router and then I have a good Asus one for my router and VPN. Works well.
  24. It is quieter that a rack mount machine but it isn't going to be quiet. That uses two slim power supply and tiny fans that need to spin fast.
  25. I would check to see if any of the jonsbo n1 n2 or n3 might fit. Silver stone has a small form factor case I think as well. There aren't a lot of choices sadly.
