  1. I can agree that they advertised something that they weren't following through on. However, did you notice? When you first got your card did you launch up whatever task needs the 64ROPs, or 2048KB of L2, or 4GB of VRAM and immediately say "What the fuck? This isn't doing what it's supposed to!" because as far as I know you weren't grabbing your pitchfork and torch before this huge scandal came to light. It's just a bunch of drama. Is it shitty that NVIDIA falsely advertised? Yes, but in all honesty most people bought the card because of reviews, or performance numbers, or endorsements from reliable sources, and they got what they wanted. This is only an issue because of how angry people get when they feel like they were scammed, and in most cases they weren't. I just bought a 970 today despite this issue because I looked at the performance numbers, and I thought "$350? That's a damn good deal."
  2. I'm looking for a new chair. The last two I owned were from Office Max and they both broke within a year after purchase. Things like armrests breaking off of the seat, upholstery peeling, and wobbling. I'm sure that the chairs from Office Max work fine for certain people, but I am not one of them. I sit at my desk most of the day, doing online schoolwork, writing, and gaming, so I need something that is really built to last. The problem with this is that I'm on a limited budget, at least when you're talking about high quality furniture. I'm looking to spend under $300 including shipping. A few options I've looked at are GT Omega (which is not an option due to high export tax), the Tempurpedic TP9000, and a chair from DX Racer, the OH/FD91/N. I've also looked into the Markus chair from IKEA, but I'm skeptical of its longevity. What's the best chair for high usage that's under $300? I would like it if I'm not looking for a new one next year, and I'd prefer a fabric upholstery.
  3. It was in May, 2012. I was 14, horribly uninformed, and wanted to play Skyrim with mods. My brother built his computer in my bedroom (his was too messy) the Christmas prior, and he let me play Skyrim on it to see how it would run. I was impressed that the game wasn't at something awful like 0.5 FPS, even though it was only on a GTX 550 ti (he was also quite uninformed at the time). Fast forward 5 months and my parts arrive, by then my brother was back on campus at Pitt Bradford, but he helped me pick components (which was a bad idea). The part list was atrocious. It cost me about $800, had a locked i5, a GTX 550 Ti, and the most overkill power supply for that build. At first I wanted to take the hard drive out of my old computer, and put it in the new one, then put the new hard drive in the old one, and my mother would use it (her desktop was 7 years old, and mine was not even a year old). I did not know that you had to prime Windows for a system swap ahead of time; we'll come back to this later. Assembling the computer was a breeze as I watched my brother build his 5 months prior. In hindsight I'm amazed that computer turned on. I forced the CPU into the socket, I assembled it in a carpeted room, and the CPU cooler was not installed properly (and stayed that way for months with no problems). The cable management was horrific, but I was just happy it turned on. However to my great disappointment I could not for the life of me get the hard drive with Windows installed on it already to work (because I was an idiot). In a great panic I made my mom drive me to a nearby Staples to buy a copy of Windows, got home and installed the new drive with Windows on it. Finally my computer works. A few months later, when my brother has home next, he helped me clean up the cables (which is when we discovered that the stock Intel cooler was hanging onto the CPU by a single pushpin and the surface tension of the thermal paste), I upgraded to a GTX 670 the next February (right in time for the GTX 770 to come out), I got my first SSD last January along with a new power supply (despite being overkill the old one failed), and now I'm looking to get a GTX 970 (Skyrim mods just keep getting more intense). Pretty soon I'll be getting a job, and I'll put this pain in the ass to bed when I build my next computer, which I will not screw up like this one.
  4. I want to see this test done again in an optimal case setup. In a case with better airflow and a few more, high quality fans; clean up the cable; put a proper tower cooler or CLC on the CPU. I want to see what the "proper precautions" are. While I can see the value in doing a worst case scenario test you should at least tell people how to yield better results.
  5. This may seem a little odd, but I desperately need to talk about this. Tonight my mother and I went to get some food, and ended up talking about some things that have been stressing her out related to stuff she's been reading on facebook. She asked me what I thought about the situation, so I described my observations of this situation, as well as other similar things that have happened in the past. The conclusion I came up with is that the best way to avoid this in the future is for her to unfriend a certain group of people. She feels obligated to help people out, and give people advice, but since people are idiots it always backfires, and she ends up with hurt feelings. After about 20 minutes of discussion on the topic she agreed with me, and asked how I, and 16 year old, got so smart. She kept treating me like I was so wise, and smart, and I thought it was kind of weird as she's usually the one talking me out of doing things that I think are perfectly fine, but in reality may not be the best decision. A few hours later I came out of my room to tell her about something, and she was writing a message to someone on facebook, and sobbing. She insisted that she was fine, and that I shouldn't worry about her. I saw that it was one of the people in the aforementioned group, and nothing else. I now see why being a parent can be so hard, even though someone thinks you have the right idea, you can't help but feel like you messed up, like the pain cause by the action you decided on outweighs the benefits. I can't help but doubt my logic, think that maybe I shouldn't have even recommended what I did. Am I too persuasive for my own good, that even if something that I'm arguing in favor of is wrong that it'll be accepted as fact. I guess I feel this way because I don't feel smart, I feel like some normal person, and my own mother told me that I was wise, someone who's opinions I respect over anyone's. I just don't know what to think, want to think that this is a valuable learning experience for both of us, but I have doubt. I can't help but worry that this'll cause more problems, or do nothing but cause my mother pain. I don't want to have this power, I don't want to know that my parents are the same way, and that they are uncertain of what I consider law. I just want to live believing that no matter what there are people who know exactly what to do, but now I know that everybody is just making their best guess, and hoping their right. All I can think about is what will happen tomorrow, will it blow over well? Will my mother be worse off than if we never talked about this? Can I trust people anymore? Are people just saying what they think, and people assume it's right? I don't understand this world anymore, for my entire life I've had someone to turn to when I'm uncertain about something, but now I can only question whether they're right or not. This is not healthy stuff to be thinking about, and I honestly hope nobody reads this, but I need to talk about this, but I don't have the heart to tell my mother I am uncertain now. If you do read this, please respond.
  6. I used to use a Corsair M60, and it's a really solid mouse. Everything about it is great, but I wanted more functionality. I'm currently using a Logitech G600, and even though I don't play MMOs I love the mouse, and use every button regularly in Skyrim. Great review, and a great product.
  7. I may actually be building a similar machine soon, however I was thinking more along the lines of the SG10 with a Maximus VI GENE. If I put some Gelid FN-FW09 as well as an FN-FW12 in the side would that give good cooling to the GPUs?, or should I just go with the Phemon M and the G.1 Sniper M5 so I can space out the cards?
  8. Thank you so much for sharing this information, I will definitely get one of these, Cool setup btw.
  9. I am looking for a new desk, and I am tired of crappy OfficeMax brand stuff. I would really like to find something with sturdy construction, doesn't have a whole bunch of drawers and unnecessary stuff underneath the top, has a lot of USABLE surface area, and won't break the bank. Are there any brands that make simple, steel construction, commercial desks? I was thinking around 60-70 inches wide, and 24-36 inches deep so I have room for multiple monitors, and a keyboard with a long wrist rest.
  10. I think I'll probably just go ITX. I don't why super high temps or hair dryer level sound, and I would like it to be smaller. Plus I don't think I'd really need 2 GPUs if I get one good enough.
  11. I figured I made it clear that I was deciding between M-ATX and M-ITX based on whether or NOT I would use SLI.
  12. Yeah, I'm not going to start making conclusions. Just want to get as much info as possible.
