Hi
I am currently researching what to upgrade from my 5 years old machine (Core i5-4460, 12 GBs RAM & GTX 950) and I think a GPU upgrade should serve me well for another couple of years
My main goals is to play games on medium/hgih-ish settings at 1080p with stable 60 FPS, no high refresh rate or VR or anything (yet)
Currently I can get a used RX 580 8GB for around 200 bucks and I have the money for it now
HOWEVER...
I also edit quite a lot recently using DaVinci Resolve and record a lot of gameplay (I have seen EposVox's 2020 Encoder showdown video, yeah AMD are doing really bad) so I am more than willing to sacrifice gaming power for a better editing experience and better software compatibility (which is why I chose a 950 over AMD's offering back then, and to be frank the situation over at AMD doesn't make the performance seem worth the risk)
I have been searching for over 4 hours now for any good 1080p Resolve benchmarks but with no avail, everything is about 4K at minimum often focusing on 8K editing
I don't do color correction, I don't do fancy Fusion animations, no sound editing, no nothing and I don't even care about render/export times
All I care about is smooth and snappy timeline playback for plain old 1080p at 60 FPS max, some overlays for text and transitions
which are what have been causing me issues lately
My mind is just torn and I have a headache right now so any input is greatly appreciated
Do I just get the 580? (even after all is said and done it offers amazing performance/price ratio)
Do I wait like an extra 6 month and save up more?
Do I need a platform upgrade?
(Note: I won't buy anything until I see what AMD has to offer this month)
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long read
