  1. Ordered the amp and some foam pads today. Going to start the final sanding tomorrow evening, as that will be 5 days drying (in the current heat, should be plenty!) Very very excited!!
  2. Pick and place machine, wave solder machine, automated visual inspection, automated test equipment. I can't talk for the price of the license, but the cost of the plant for a small factory is into the millions, easily... Plus the people to run it. I'd imagine the license is just as expensive, lol.

    27" vs 24"

Resolution matters a lot more than size. How far you're going to be sitting from the monitor also matters more than it's size alone. I'd rather have a 25" 1440p monitor (as I do) than a 27" 1440p one, as the pixel density is higher, and thus you get more sharpness. Also, I sit fairly close to my monitor, so the extra 2" wouldn't really help me out at all. I can just about live with a 24" 1080p monitor, and I think at 27", 1080p is too low a pixel density. For me, 27" 1080p: bleurgh 24" 1080p: acceptable 27" 1440p: waste of inches, but looks good 25" 1440p: perfect
  4. The spread of misinformation makes me sad We're not mad, and we know you get what we're saying. We just know that in a weeks time, someone might read this and think that a DAC should make their headphones louder, then get salty when it doesn't.
  5. He's mad because you're wrong, but you refuse to look it up or admit it. He knows what he's talking about. A DAC does not have amplification built in, even if it is a "headphone one" (whatever that means). DAC simply means digital to analogue converter. It does nothing more than convert a signal from a digital one to an analogue one. An amplifier is responsible for taking an input signal and outputting it with greater amplitude (volume). If your "DAC" is making your headphones louder than an actual DAC, it's because it also has an amplifier built in. This makes it a DAC/Amp combo. It's not just a DAC, and it's wrong to call it so.
  6. Day 42 (My God) Sanded down coat 5 and applied what is hopefully my final coat of clear today. Now just gotta wait for a week before final sanding. Fingers are tightly crossed it all goes well. 6 coats of clear... surely I can't possibly sand through all that
  7. Day 40/41 Applied coat 5 of clear today, after sanding 4 from yesterday. Got some photos, as promised, lol. I think one more coat tomorrow and I can start final sanding a week later Excited!!
  8. Day 39/40 So yesterday I sanded down with 2500 grit and applied another coat of clear. Going to do this over and over until I run out of clear coat, and if it's still not good enough, I'll buy more paint. They're starting to look better with every coat now. I'm getting excited again. Not long left. Once the finish is good, and I feel like there's enough coats on, I'll leave them to dry for about a week then give them a final sand. Currently looking at about 6 coats of clear I think. I've done 3 so far, doing the 4th today. Apologies for the lack of photos recently, I'll try and get some this afternoon/evening
  9. If it's a new build, it's common when Windows is setting up stuff in the background. If it's still doing it in a week, then you can start to worry. For the time being run a malwarebytes and some kind of antivirus scan just in case. Hope this helps
  10. Long term relationship breakups are hard. You've gotta just cry it out and let yourself be sad for a while. Be a little bitch about it. Cry like a baby if you need to. It will improve with time (as cliche as that is). As for the drugs, professional help is probably your best bet when you're in this deep.
  11. In this case, definitely try shorter cables or wrapping in tin foil. Have you done any testing with either of these yet. I'd be very confident in saying it's the cables and not the speakers at this point.
  12. Are you even listening to us? In future if you get this problem again, it's likely because "listen to this device" is on.
  13. New CPU is your only real option since you can't overclock. Upping the resolution scale will just make the game GPU bound, but won't improve your frame rates or experience.
  14. Excellent advice. I'll certaily do that next time Cheers. Day 38 Sanded down and applied more clear coat yesterday. Still aiming to be done with clear by Friday and then start finishing the following Friday. Not long to go now if all goes to plan (as if it will all go to plan )
  15. Hahaha, all this work and just glue veneer on... Funny, but more funny because it doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. If it all goes to shit again, I'll certainly be considering it. Thanks for the info on the clear coat though. Maybe best not to sand the final coat of paint after all (bumpier for better adhesion?) I certainly feel better that there's nothing I can do about it and it wasn't my fault as such
  16. I can't guarantee it will, but it could work, yes Worth a shot! Note: make sure you're just wrapping it around the insulation, not the conductor.
  17. Certainly no guarantees, especially if it's the cable and not the speaker. I'd recommend you make that speaker wire a bit shorter if you can. See how it performs with 1m speaker cable instead of 1.5. That's the solution my money is on. Ideally, you wanna make it as short as possible, such that it reaches where you need it to go comfortably, with little excess but no strain.
  18. How long is the wire from your source to your speaker? You want to try and make this as short as possible, and yes, shielding is an option. Replacing the shielding is a different kettle of fish to new shielding. I'd recommend you focus on the wiring between the speaker and the source, as this is likely where it's being picked up.
  19. Desperate for piano black. The finish with paint alone doesn't look half as good, and also half of it is still clear coated from before. I'd end up with piano black over most of the face, and matte edges, lol. If it gets any worse, I'll consider going for a different finish.
  20. Day 37 Sanded down post painting yesterday. That went really well and no primer or anything came through, so they were ready for clear coat Unfortunately, when I applied the clear coat (this time making sure I was far enough away with the spray and wasn't putting it on too thick), the same wrinkling happened again... not nearly as bad as last time, but still very obvious. Plan is to sand this down as much as possible without cutting through to the paint, then powering through with more clear coat. I think it must be something to do with a reaction between the paint and the clear (from what I've read), however, this didn't happen the very first time I applied clear, so I'm pretty confused, lol. Fingers crossed today goes better and I can apply a second coat of clear without it doing this again. We shall see. Couple of photos below, but didn't get any of the clear coat wrinkling up... was too sad to take photos
  21. You answered your own question. Copper is expensive I just bought inductors for a DIY speaker project and they cost like £12 ($18) each. Way lower inductance than that too, lol.
  22. Day 36 Did the second speaker (removing all the shit clear coat) yesterday. Ready for re-clear coating today after a quick sand. No photos, looks same as the first Planning 4 coats of clear, one a day, so should be doing last coat on Friday. Then going to leave it to dry for a week, and then start finishing next Friday. However, I've planned to finish many many times, and haven't, so we'll see
