Definitely worth looking into for my next ESXi project (coming this summer):

    Not sure this will work if you have a VM with a passthrough PCI device. ESXI makes you reserve RAM if you passthrough a device. The only time I tried hot plug CPU was on a windows 10 VM and it caused stability issues for me. It did seem to resolve by rebooting the VM but kind of defeats the purpose.
