  1. Conflict with something else on my router? I've only got 4 devices online. Phone, Philips hue bridge, tablet, and my pc.
  2. Are there any tools to track intermittent internet connection issues? I randomly get internet drops while I'm on the internet, noticeable while playing games and on discord. At the same moment I will get a connection lost on my games and discord will get a red connection issue. All audio stops, it's really annoying. Are there any tools that I can run while I'm at work that will keep running traceroutes etc and log when it fails or something like that so I can get back to my ISP with what happens. They literally are at the point of "Well we don't see any issues on our end" since it happens sporadically, but it is so brief that it just drops me out of some games but reconnects before my router shows any loss of connection.
  3. So I asked linus about his tattoo today, I got a response....
  4. The work load is specifically as a node in a render farm. My boss seems to think setting up the server to run multiple VMs is going to make it render faster because it will be rendering more frames at once. Since I'm not a server IT, just a software engineer and they are just a 3D Artist they won't listen to me so I'm trying ot find some sort of concrete writing to say "this is how and why". I tried explaining to them you need more ram and cpu set asside just to run each VM that it would be faster to run them on a single OS since Backburner scales with n-cores
  5. So I have a question that I can't seem to find answered anywhere. When it comes to building a render farm server. The server in question is to be running Dual Epyc 7601 processors and rendering with Backburner as a renderfarm. The question I have been put to me is that running multiple Virtual Machines will be faster since it can render multiple frames at once, while I am trying to say that you will lose performance running the virtual machines themselves so having it running as a windows server rendering a single frame at a time with all 64 cores focused on the task. Does anyone have any advice on how the server should be setup? Multiple VMs per CPU, 1 VM per cpu, or no VMs at all.
  6. Anyone of these, http://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/7000-series/7920/spd/precision-7920-workstation?stacks=true or go to the lower end systems. Once you spec them with anything over 4 cores, it states it requires a special version that costs 105 more. I am going with the Dell XPS systems, we have a decent size render farm and our Video/3D guys currently have 4 core 8 thread xeons at 3.5 ghz. So it is a good step up to a 6c12t 4.6ghz CPU with a GTX 1080. I just wanted to ask about the whole Core count limited versions of windows 10. It seemed like a lot of BS on their side, the Dell rep said they couldn't tell me anything about the OS because it was only on an internal document they couldn't share with customers. Basically we just do a lot of Photoshop, Animate, Videos, 3D Modeling/Animation, and Unity Development. So nothing critical of a Xeon or Quadro card. Nothing that's worth 200% more in price.
  7. So I was spec'ing out Workstations for my company and its the need of building an editor/animator rig that needs to run Unity3D editor, After Effects, 3Ds Max. Unfortunately corporate has us forced to go through only Dell. This led me to build a workstation with a Xeon CPU and a Quadro card, however now dell has two versions of windows 10 pro, both are what's called "Windows 10 Pro for Workstations" however one only supports 4 cores and you need to spend an additional $105 to support more than 4 cores. Now I find this weird and feel like its a way for Dell to charge even more (No way to get an i9 or Thread Ripper outside of an Alienware machine). Does anyone know anything about this special version of Windows 10 Pro Workstation that one only supports 4 cores and one supports more?
  8. So my wall voltage fluctuates enough that it causes one of my monitors to turn off (I have 3 and its always the main monitor, no matter which power cord is plugged in). This typically occurs during the summer when everyone uses the A/C, I have a 900W UPS from Cyberpower, this is the model CP1500PFCLCD. The UPS solved some of the flickering but still it occurs when the A/C turns off or if I turn off the ceiling fan and the power voltage has a spike of a few volts (nothing to trigger the UPS). What is the best steps to take to resolve this, I have a Cool Master GX 750 Power Supply which is about 7 years old now but has been powering my pc through a few sets of hardware since. Is that something I should look at replacing? Also everything is connected through the battery ports on my UPS (so nothing is on surge ports) and the internet Coax goes through the UPS as well. P.S. this killed my original 7970 and I replaced with a 280X and the issue still ended up occuring later on. (I can work at pulling more exact numbers of the loads and voltage changes after I get home from work)
