  1. The samsung nvme drivers are for the 950/960/970 nvme drives not the pm/sm. OEMs normally have a particular driver for these that gives better performance I believe. try and find a oem driver for the pm961
  2. Grab a nvme drive for projects from amazon. 970 pro. See if it helps if not return to amazon within 30 days. Not sure what the online retyrns policies are wherever you live.
  3. How big is said render estimated to be?. Because what I’d say is grab a OS SSD then a dedicated project nvme drive. Once said project is done, move over to a HDD. Are these renders used for commerical work? If so you have to think about how much time a SSD could save you.
  4. Linus could you review the new macbook pros. Especially the core i9 and its ‘thermal issues’ . Cant recall but has linus ever reviewed any workstation machines from HP/Dell? Would like to see a review of the HP Z4.. @LinusTech
  5. 860 evo m.2 would be more then fine for gaming. If you want a nvme then go for it, but you wont notice much difference vs a sata based m.2. In regards to pm961 vs 970 evo the evo will be better faster, and of course you will get support from samsung(software and hardware)if you have any failures with the drive etc. The pm961 is a OEM drive so the seller has to deal with the warranty.
  6. 860 pro is fantastic when it comes to SSD reliability, double the tbw of a 850 pro. Bought one myself, already have two 850 pros for OS duties and theyve been fantastic. Do remember to constantly backup of course
  7. 1080tis. Iray iirc doesnt care if its a quadro. It cares about raw power of the card. I havent used iray in a long time. I use octane for my gpu rendering needs
  8. Yeah you need a UASP enabled enclosure
  9. Hi, had same issue with 1080 ti in w7. Turns out it was firefox and its hardware accerleration feature. I switched that off. I then stopped having said issue. Another reason why it may be happening is gpu overclocking, so try and rule that out by enabling debug mode on nvidia control panel.
  10. Nvme will work as a non boot drive. If yoi can find a AHCI drive, that may work as a boot drive. Have a c602 board with 850 pro as boot + programmes 960 pro for scratch and projects. I believe c602 is the xeon version of x79.
  11. Hi got a z420 as well. Gtx 1080ti connected. I use a molex to 8 pin which has worked fine around 4 years. My 780 worked fine on it as well. I use it usually for heavy rendering sessions. Sometimes a few days up to a week or so.
  12. Contact HP. See if they can provide you with the link to their SSD monitoring tool.
  13. Hi guys just had a few questions, about a PCIE extension cable such as this: Not sure if this is the right area of the forums to post in, but here goes .I'm probably getting the name wrong, but I need one, since the remaining PCIE slot I have is extremely close to the gpu, so was looking at getting a extension for a 1GBe NIC that I am planning to buy. Require a extension since I don't want to reduce the air to the card. Already have a onboard intel Gigabit port, but require another. I currently have a GPU, wireless card and a PCI- SSD. Now I was wondering, does the brand make a difference? Should I be looking to get a certain brand, or can I get any cheap ones off ebay? The other thing is I know from linus' videos extensions have been fine on GPUs, I assume on Network cards this is still the case? Last question, is I've seen some powered ones out there. I assume if I'm just using one extender, I won't need a powered one? Thanks, guys.
  14. Using 2 barracuda's here. I don't work in Hollywood, but have been doing some freelance work for a small movie and other things. Is the model of your workstation z800 or is it z820/z840. I have a z420. I use two SSDs, one for programmes and windows, and another pcie based ssd for projects, I then move them onto my HDDs, and then back them up.
  15. Guess its the Ti. Other thing is which brand? Asus or evga. Theres not too much difference in noise and temps, but just was curious which has better customer support? The 780 i have is a strix.
