  1. Here's what I can see from Massdrop's photos. This board definitely does not match the O2 BOM: R25 - 5% instead of 1% - Impacts power management. More likely to cycle on off when batteries are low Blue LED - Requires power management circuit changes. "Finally, the LED’s forward voltage is a critical element of the power management circuit. You can’t change to a different color (especially white or blue) without making other changes as that will require more current and the different forward voltage means the power management circuit has to be altered." C13/C14 - WIMA 1.5uF present instead of 2.2uf. This is a critical audio path capacitor. The smaller value here will impact low frequency response! This is a serious alteration with performance implications. WIMA costs more, but red capacitors sell better than grey. Reducing value reduces cost (and performance). R1/R2 - Generic charging resistors are present. C6, C7, C10, C15, C17, C18 - Film caps have been replaced with generic parts C1 - Replaced with generic part C16, C21 - Ceramic caps have been replaced with film parts. VR1 - Alps RK097 series potentiometer with 15A taper has been swapped for a lower cost part (unknown volume taper and balance) Q1 Q2 - Power supply MOSFETS differ from standard parts. Q1 and Q2 are critical parts which affect opamp performance and turn on/off behavior. Discussed extensively in original article.
  2. Spending more money won't make the headphones fit better...they all use the same wing design.
  3. No, asshole, I wear a size 8 hat.
  4. No. I have a bigger head them him, and they didn't fit. OP - AD700x/900x work well with bigger heads. AKG Headphones generally fit me well, along with the DT 770/880/990 series from beyer.
  5. 4th option - you can just grab an o2 for $120. As long as you have a decent motherboard you don't need a DAC.
  6. No one ever said it can do that? At all? And 3 watts is way to much for any non electrostatic headphone.
  7. ....I have the he-5's and they get loud enough on my iPhone 5. From the looks of it, you are worried about powering them. Any decent amp on the market can power them without a sweat. I'm willing to bet nobody (besides that one guy) has that amp on this forum. We told you that you can get a similar product for less. You argue about it and are getting upset because we're trying to help you. I would call that being weird. Either way, I'm out - it seems like you just want someone to confirm your purchase which I'm not here to do. Good luck.
  8. No, you just don't get it. LCD-2's are planar headphone just like the HE-4's. He's saying that it doesn't take some magic amp to power them (example his iPhone). I'm not really sure what you are trying to accomplish in this thread. You got your answer, we recommended some alternatives that will do the same job for cheaper and you are being weird about this. The specs are on nwavguy's blog and on his website if you are wondering where we are getting this information. Oh and just to let you know, since the HE-4's have low impedance, you'll want to stay away from tube amps anyway - They have high output impedance and will mess up the FR of the headphones.
  9. The combo would probably need a bigger case don't you think? Those speakers won't really benefit from a DAC anyway. In fact, most speakers really don't.
  10. Umm, no one is ridiculing him. At all.
  11. If you are really stuck on a headset, pick up the Sennhesier PC360. You don't need a sound card for any headset on the market. Save your money.
  12. I have the HE-5's and the o2 can drive them with low gain.
  13. Agreed. It comes down to the way people think. I personally like to know each "point of of failure" in my audio chain. If I know that everything but my headphone is 100% neutral, any anomalies or frequency responses can come directly from the headphones. When you add tube amps, or something that distorts or colors the audio, now you have 2 points of "failure" where you don't know what is effected by the equipment. Is it headphones, is it my amp? Both? None? I think Mayflower at the end of the video said, if you like tubes, good for you! By all means, if you think those guys were a bunch of idiots with a video camera, and you like your tubes and what not, no need to get upset and type hate emails. Just ignore their opinion and do what you think is best
  14. What do you think was wrong with the video?
