  1. Can't see much of this article as having any basis in reality... Could you just imagine the flaming rage of people who just purchased a Titan Xp( (XPp or whatever it's called) when in ~6 months NVidia releases a Titan Xv for the same price they just paid for their new Titan card? As for a GTX 1030, I guess it would compete with the new RX550, but even then, the numbering is off as NVidia doesn't even have a 1040 between this supposed 1030 and the already existing 1050. Concerning the market decline, profits, etc BS, that just seems really far off as their stock value is triple what it was a year ago and 50% higher than what it was just 5 to 6 months ago... They do not seem to be hurting financially, so rushing a product to launch is just really far off.
  2. Originally read this article on Hot Hardware then followed up with the Science Mag article. Doctors at Stanford University in Palo Alto have published the results from a study they conducted where they tested four separate Machine Learning Algorithms against the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) guidelines for predicting a heart attack. The outcome of this is that the AI was actually more accurate than the ACC/AHA guidelines by a margin. According to the Science Mag Article here is how the testing was performed: http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/04/self-taught-artificial-intelligence-beats-doctors-predicting-heart-attacks As for the results, the article point out: This is definitely a positive application of Machine Learning AI and hopefully this in combination of a skilled doctors expertise can improve the accuracy rate of predicting coronary issues and other health problems even further. The big thing that should be stressed though is that I don't think it would be a good idea to remove the human element from reviewing the data, but just supplement a doctors expertise with the AI's ability to model complex datasets. http://hothardware.com/news/machine-learning-ai-algorithms-predict-heart-attacks-better-than-doctors
  3. Love the sarcasm but God that's painful to read... I do think that this news will have an impact with Intel investors although, it may be offset by Intel holding larger and more events at other tradeshows. Maybe they'll try to Co-opt more of the functions at events like Computex or CES. I mean, it's not like there aren't enough technology oriented tradeshows and forums already existing. It's just that Intel will not have a dedicated event to highlight the new technologies that they and their partner developers are working on.
  4. Probably the worst movie I've ever seen scientifically is 'The Core'. We used that movie in a Plate Tectonics class as an off-day laugh session. Basically, we were allowed to leave the class early after writing down 10 things that were wrong with the movie on a geology basis. Don't think it even took an hour.
  5. IMO, The Intel system might be the better straight gaming rig at the moment, however, I think the AMD system would provide the most versatility and a good upgrade path down the road to a higher Core/Thread count if that becomes needed. The AM4 socket is supposed to be AMDs mainstay socket for the next couple of years, so you should be able to easily swap out processors if/when you want later.
  6. Typically work in both Chrome and Vivaldi... Chrome for most activities involving my Google Account and Vivaldi for just about everything else. One nice thing about this setup is one of the local online papers tried to setup a subscription service for viewing content that wouldn't let you view it on IE, Edge or Chrome, however, I don't think they have this setup for Vivaldi yet (or even realize it as a browser).
  7. Intel is officially ending their Intel Developers Forum and has cancelled all plans to hold IDF17. This is some breaking news that came from Anandtech and the IDF17 website. From the Anandtech article: http://www.anandtech.com/show/11279/intel-discontinues-the-intel-developer-forum-idf17-cancelled Just to give some context, according to Anandtech: Maybe Intel will replace the IDF with a new program or maybe they are seeing a loss from the program as the implementation of some of their technologies and CPU development has slowed a bit. Do people think this is a good idea? Will Intel release a new program in IDF's place that will produce better results or provide a more diverse approach to displaying their products? http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/intel-developer-forum-idf/san-francisco/2017/idf-2017-san-francisco.html EDIT: Update from Intel on Anandtech: Sooo, it appears that Intel is planning to have more targeted individual days instead of a mass event highlighting themselves as a company... I can't help but agree with the Ian (the author) on the fact that this is going to introduce too much opportunity for Intel's message to become disconnected. I think having something like IDF would allow for more innovation as you can have people from different industries that Intel serves attend something just a bit outside of their specialty and get inspired on ways to implement that tech into what they specialize in.
  8. I'm hoping that with this, we may see more of the Gray Jedi in the movies... Maybe see how they fit into the cinematic universe that is being built up.
  9. Just wait for Apple to 'invent' the self driving Semi-Truck and brand it the MacMack. Sure hope that Mack Trucks have done something to secure their name.
  10. You should list the specs/parts on the pre-made system. Depending on what you already have, it may not be too difficult to upgrade some parts for under $900.00 to get you where you want to be.
  11. My understanding from reading this is that you don't need to keep all the tabs for a program in the same window. Similar to how in most tabbed browsers, you could easily just drag the tab off into it's own window.
  12. You could do a Red Box type thing I guess, if you can find one that would fit that many disks. I would just digitize them all though onto a Home NAS that is running either Kodi or Plex and then stream it to my TV. Easier on the organization and space IMO. You could also then keep the physical discs in an organized cabinet if you wanted to pull the physical media to watch later.
  13. Windows Central is reporting that a new feature called 'Tabbed Shell' may be coming to Windows in a future update. From the Windows Central article: http://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-tabbed-shell Basically, this would allow you to group multiple instances of a program into a single tabbed window or separate those tabs out into their own instance. As for when we may see this, Ars Technica is reporting from Windows Central https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/04/tabs-could-be-coming-not-only-to-explorer-but-everywhere/ Personally, I will be really glad to see something like this for at least the Office productivity suite and Windows Explorer. Will hopefully make it a lot easier for manipulating data between different instances of Word, Excel and Explorer for me at least and should still have the ability to just drag out an instance into a separate screen to do a side by side comparison.
  14. True, kinda... The article talks about trailers and was more interested in watching the video than reading the heading on the video. Just for you though, I'll update it.
  15. Figured I would post this in the off-topic portion since I'm not sure how 'News' Worthy it is... We now have a trailer teaser for the next Star Wars movie, now just have to wait 8 months for it in theaters. I would ask who is excited, however, I'm sure it's a mixed bag between people who are enjoying this new Star Wars work done by Disney and those who don't. I know that Disney is going to get my money at least once to go watch this in theaters. https://www.engadget.com/2017/04/14/star-wars-the-last-jedi-trailer/
  16. Just as an FYI... I've edited the post to add in the following response to the program listed on WCCF Tech. This does raise an interesting point/question, should your refund be based on whether you enjoy the game or not or does it make sense to compensate the game devs a bit as well for their development time and costs.
  17. This definitely seems like it's going to be an issue with people... Not having full release support will probably lead a lot of people to roll back to an earlier iteration with support. Question is, how easy that will be. If you do roll back to 9.10, maybe create a help file on any difficulties you experience.
  18. That is definitely a possibility... The major limitations that I can think of come from non-hardware related issues. Mainly whether the ISP connections on both ends can handle the traffic up and down and what kind of latency is introduced. After that, I would wonder on what files you may need to access locally on either side that you would not be able to transfer between systems.
  19. I think they might be matching some of the Newegg pricing for this to clear out some stock for the Kaby Lake versions with the GTX 10 Series GPUs... I might look at one myself with the 1070 GPU in it. The other thing to consider is whether the required software will run on Windows 10 stably. If not, then I would avoid Kaby Lake based processors until the software is updated to run on it, otherwise a Kaby Lake i7 with a 1070 would probably be a decent system for a couple of years...
  20. Do they have a program list that you'll be required to install and do you know if you'll have to use the programs in a lab/classroom environment? If so, then it may just be better to get a good quality mid to upper range laptop and setup a keyboard/mouse/monitor hub at home to plug your laptop into for home productivity, especially if you have too tight of a budget... Just will be a lot louder under load, weigh a lot more to transport around, get hotter and have worse battery life.
  21. This is definitely going to depend on how you schedule your school workflow, but productivity wise, I prefer to have a smaller lighter, longer battery life laptop or tablet for basic websurfing and office tasks and a good robust desktop for tasks that require more horsepower. The other portion is to ensure that if you are using a laptop for class, that you actually use it in class for class.
  22. If I read the article correctly, they were using a Surface Book with an i7, 16 GB of RAM and GTX 965M. Kind of interesting results... Find it really interesting that the Average FPS on Bioshock and Tomb Raider only dipped about 3 to 4 FPS with background tasks vs Gears, which dipped about 30 FPS on average and Game Modes biggest impact was on Gears on the Average FPS although all of them saw a good bump on the minimums while running Background Tasks.
  23. Kind of a shame and I hope it doesn't impact future FreeNAS releases... Hoping to maybe build my redundant storage NAS in the next couple of months and would like to test out FreeNAS on that one.
  24. This is more for nostalgia sake since my dad had one he had to sell when we moved and I remember learning to drive on ice with it, but a 1969 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback. EDIT: Figured I should include an image for people to see as well...
