    Thanks everyone I think that solves the question.
     
    I did a bunch more reading and it sounds like the processor (i7 7700k) will default to the 2400 reguardless of ram speed. But the board asrock z270 and the processor are able to run the ram at faster speeds if I enable it on the bios XMS profile. 
     
    So thre "good looking" ddr4 3000 that cost $45 less then the ddr4 2400 is on it way!

    What board does everyone here recommend for the Kaby Lake?
     
    I'm finally upgrading after years. On a budget so I should probably just buy the skylake but the kaby is only $30 more at my micro center so why not.
