with the way Apple is doing things i don't think my next laptop will be a Mac...

if only i didn't need Microsoft Office for school reasons. if only...

that's the only reason i have a Mac instead of like a thinkpad with Linux on it. i don't want to have to dual-boot just for one application. or run a VM just for Office and kill my battery life because of that.

when i finish this year of school i might just sell my Mac and get a thinkpad with like a 3rd gen QM cpu... and just accept that i might have to run a VM for Office when i'm in school.

this is a decision that i don't like as i have a big love for macOS but i might have to part ways with it because well, Apple decided not to support my 2011 MBP anymore. and i can't just stay on High Sierra forever.

i do have a 2012 MBP but i'm almost certainly gonna sell that. using a 13" 800p display after having used a 15" 1050p display for half a year is not something i can get used to again. also the 3rd gen dual-core is causing it to lag all the time. maybe i'm just used to having a quadcore now but like it is seriously laggy.

i also don't mind a big heavy lump of a machine as much as a while ago, i have a chromebook for times when i don't want to carry around a massive laptop....

so yea... i'm probably gonna leave macOS somewhere in august. sadly...

@Lukyp i've tried to get Linux working on my Late 2011 MBP but i can't get the wifi to work properly.

@Lukypwell it is "working" but it is very slow, and it has some weird issue with the wifi at my school where it constantly disconnects every 30 seconds. AFAIK that guide is for installing the driver for the card, which is installed.

@Lukyp no clue. i don't have Linux installed on it ATM. i'm gonna probably install it over the weekend. i need VMware workstation for school so i need Linux on there anyway.

There may be other options, but you'll have to use some unorthodox means to get there...

HP EliteBooks are pretty nice - especially the i7 variants with dedicated GPUs. And these are fully upgradeable - even the GPUs can be replaced if you want :D Plus, they can run most major OS's with ease. The Core i7 is a great choice for MacOS and Windows, and an AMD graphics option would make MacOS and Linux a breeze to work with (since MacOS no longer widely supports nVIDIA and Linux drivers are better on the AMD side). Also, lots of expansion options. Grab a 2TB drive, and you'll be able to allocate around 675GB to each OS (assuming you attempt to triple-boot MacOS, Linux, and Windows 10 - which is possible). There are guides on how to do just that, natively - no need for VMs in that case. The thing uses DDR3, so memory upgrades will also be cheaper (when compared to using a DDR4 equipped laptop). It's also a mobile workstation, so no need to worry about being unable to run things ;)

@TopHatProductions115 if i'm gonna do that i want a thinkpad becuase i love the keyboards.

and i don't want a dGPU at all, neither from nvidia or amd. because i don't need one. i'd rather have a thinner machine that doesn't run really hot and better battery life....

@Lukyp thanks for that tip of the other driver!!! the wifi is now much much faster.

i haven't tested it on school wifi though. i'll do that on monday. if that works too i'll be really happy :)
