  1. Can't really help without specs, But theoretically you should upgrade you GPU for games. I assume you're in the USA? you'll get a decent used card for $150 US
  2. Sorry, I just figured 73C was pretty high, Although i do have a 5850 which gets to about 60C under full load. Maybe it's just me
  3. Okay thats good to hear man, i didn't even think about that. Enjoy the new card!
  4. I did notice that a bit recently, I got it off a family friends computer and the hard drive went from pinned at 99% at "idle" to an average 2-3%. AVG has become a bitch recently.
  5. I believe the same. AMD has more time to refine their platform and add more features before release, Not to mention, as always AMD will have a very competitive price.
  6. It used to be common knowledge that Dual/Quad channel memory is better than single channel, But there is very minimal difference. I would choose the 2x8 just for easy expansion in the future.
  7. Good point. It does make sense that if (or more likely when) this cryptocurrency flops, All the cards will spill back onto the used market for ridiculously cheap prices. I am looking into building a mini-itx rig soon-ish and it will be interesting to see what prices we get when people get bored of this.
  8. I too am of the mind that it's not really necessary, But i have friends that swear by Avast, and i have heard that Malwarebytes and AVG is okay.
  9. I would consider 73C a very high temp, Its probably a good idea to contact gigabyte and get a replacement fan sent out or a RMA
  10. My stock 2.66GHz Xeon E5430 pulls something like 100-120W, although it is an old architecture.
  11. It would be great to see some "gaming on old, cheap hardware" videos. It would be pretty cool. But i guess scrapyard wars will do for now
  12. I think the thing that frustrates me as a young techy, People ask for my help, Then when things start to look complicated for them (i open a CMD window) or the registry or something they always say something like "you're sure you know what you're doing right?" I mean, YOU are asking for MY help right? stop asking questions and let me do my thing.
  13. Unless the Z170 board has alot of features you particularly like or need, there is no point. The money is better spent elsewhere
  14. So last week (since world news covers jack shit) Kaikoura (near Christchurch) had a Massive 7.5 Earthquake. It lasted just under 2 minutes and absolutely destroyed anything in its path, Kaikoura is still trapped in as roads in and out are ripped up and landslides are covering other ones. Anyone with questions feel free to ask. There is only 2 or 3 deaths as far as i know.
  15. Do not get the Turtle Beach P11's. they're uncomfortable and leak sound like a son of a b*tch
  16. ooh yeah, by the way, with the amount of variables with all the possible pc parts you could have. It is nearly impossible to make a case optimal for any situation. a must for me would be, Good dust filters. modular, good side panel window, plenty of cable room, psu basement, radiator support, + fans, and for the love of god. removable cages for suckers with old really long amd graphics cards. Best of luck on your course.
  17. Enermax Chakra. Absolutely no room behind the motherboard tray. I cant even get a spare sata power cable behind there. EDIT: I Also hate the top mounted psu. makes cable management a massive pain.
  18. Go for something orignal. so 2 bright colours. like yellow and red. But i'd avoid red/black, blue/black etc
  19. Also i use speccy which tells you temps. try that i guess
  20. Faulty sensor? i dont know exactly how they get their data. couldn't hurt to check under heatsink and replace your thermal paste
  21. I'd say it depends on how long your pc is on at once, and what those power strips are running and how much the items on the power strips draw. But i have run a console setup chained off a pc setup for ages and had no problem
